Well the time has come, I am selling my 110 Land Rover. Not an easy decision, but the time is now. To start with its a 1985 110, which is pre defender. Unlike most of the "1985" Defenders on ebay and similar sites the details can be seen clearly, the door handles, the galvanised strip on the door sides and the lack of air con or a 6 speed box or shiny metallic paint. I'm sure enough of the Land Rover fans here in the USA have seen the videos of customs crushing Defenders which have had chassis plates changed for older numbers......you have been warned. Some of the bigger export companies in England offer the service, for a fee.

So here it goes,1985 110, has been retro fitted with a 200tdi from a 1st gen Discovery, which I purchased in England where I was living and where the work was done. I also had the transfer box from the Discovery fitted at the same time as it gives a slightly better overall cruising on the highway. This is the forth Defender that I've owned and the best by far, been working up the Land Rover family chain for too long now. 4 defenders, 4 discoverys, 1 freelander,2 range rovers, 1 series3 and 1 forward control.

Back to it,  I had the original 5 speed rebuilt, with a new clutch at the same time, I also fitted a uprated and much bigger Allard intercooler, thermostatic fan, and most of the upgrades at the same time. The 200tdi and the transfer box came out of a Discovery 1 with 98000 miles on it, I purchased the entire vehicle for the two parts, and I've done less than 3000 miles since the fitting.

These include;

Warn M8000 winch

ARB Bumper

Old Man Emu +2" Springs and Shocks

Allard Intercooler

Thermostatic electric cooling fan

200tdi

Discovery Transfer box

6 x Wolf Military Rims

6 x General AT2 Tires

Snorkel

Wing top protectors

Snow cover for heater intake

Alloy Steering guard

Power Steering

1997 Defender front seats

Trakker  highback mid row seats

Rear bench seats included

Utility body sides

Brownchurch roof rack(cut down to fit into a shipping container) and ladder

piggy back fuel tank(goes in place of filler pipe to give more capacity)

European style tow hitch set up

bearmach roof light bar to hold 4 lights and an antenna

alloy cubby box between front seats, holds stereo, pioneer with cd and usb plug in

dash pod with room for more gauges and switches, extra power points

t max split charge manager

1 x red top optima + 1 x yellow top optima

X Engineering disc brake E brake

Polybush bushing throughout

Mantec rear wheel carrier with bracket for hi-lift jack

Zeus rear wheel dics brake conversion

Also included, rear crossmember replacement part and flared wheel arches

I think that's most of it, but I'm sure there is a lot that I've not remembered to include. The paint is shabby and it has been around many a block, from Russia to the artic circle, to Africa and back and now here to the USA, this 110 has done it, it has been in deserts , mountains, tundra and most things inbetween, so its not too shiny, has been dented, does not get waxed and has never been garaged. The heater is terrible, the door frames could do with being repaired and I think the thermostatic controller for the fan is playing up. I'd drive it anywhere today but I have moved on so its time to let go.

Could Jaguar become an EV-only brand?

Fri, Oct 12 2018

Just yesterday we wrote about the Heisenbergian uncertainty surrounding the future of the Jaguar F-Type. A new report in Autocar prompts us to consider extending that ambiguity to the entire Jaguar brand. The UK magazine reports the automaker's product planners have devised a ten-year plan to switch to a pure EV lineup of cars and crossovers. According to Autocar's sources this is a planning exercise and doesn't have the green light, but it's "fairly advanced" and has adherents inside the company. The first shot fired would be an all-electric XJ replacement. That sedan, a "no-holds-barred luxury car" to challenge the Tesla Model S and Porsche Taycan, would provide emissions-free motoring before the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and BMW 7 Series come with their EV propositions. Around 2023, an EV crossover a touch larger than the full-sized Audi E-tron would replace both the XF and XE sedans. Two years later, a new mid-sized I-Pace would debut as both the F-Pace and E-Pace fade out. And two years after that, around 2027, the J-Pace luxury crossover would sigh its last ICE gasp. And what about the F-Type? The report says "with no replacement for F-Type in the works," an electric sports car "is also a possibility." There's no mention of the XK revival. Right now, Jaguar sells seven models - four sedans and three crossovers. As the Autocar article's written, come 2027 Jaguar would have an electric XJ sedan, a full-sized EV crossover, the I-Pace, and perhaps an electric sports car. That's a brave new world - one we're not sure Jaguar dealers could survive in. Problem is that Jaguar and its dealers are having plenty of problems now. Chinese-market volatility, the cloud around diesels, and Brexit uncertainty have contributed to a sales slump so dire that Jaguar's Castle Bromwich plant is going to a three-day week for the rest of the year. The sales flu has spread to Land Rover, too, the brand's Solihull plant closing for two weeks to realign dealer inventory. Considering all that, and with no easy relief in sight, the product planners are apparently debating whether a new, traditional three-model sedan range is worth the investment. The upside of going all-electric is said to be higher sales, with internal estimates supposing 300,000 units annually. Last year Jaguar sold 178,500 units. The marque could rake in larger profit margins on those sales, too, thanks to premium buyers being ready to shell out big ducats for EVs.

Jaguar may join the FWD, small-car parade

Tue, 13 Aug 2013

Was it right for Chevrolet to detune the 1975 Corvette's base engine to 165 horsepower? Was Aston Martin wrong to make the Toyota iQ-based Cygnet? Is BMW crazy to be testing the new 1 Series with three-cylinder engines and front-wheel drive? It seems now, just as in the 1970s and 1980s, that emissions regulations and social considerations are driving some automakers to adopt unbefitting practices to maintain acceptance in the eyes of governments and consumers. Jaguar has jumped on the bandwagon, and is considering development of small, frugal, front-wheel-drive cars to help lower Jaguar Land Rover's average vehicle CO2 levels in light of tightening European emissions regulations, Autocar reports.
By 2020, the European Union expects the model range of every manufacturer to average 95 grams per kilometer, which is a new law passed by the European Parliament in April. Manufacturers who make more than 300,000 vehicles per year must meet these targets, and JLR is expected to be producing up to 700,000 vehicles per year by then. CO2 regulations after 2020 will only get stricter, as EU politicians already are talking about lowering CO2 levels to between 68 g/km and 78 g/km. (To put that in perspective, Autocar posits that driving a fully charged electric vehicle in Europe produces about 75 g/km when factoring in the power-generation infrastructure.)
Jaguar has some choices here, but so far they all have drawbacks. It could develop a new, compact chassis architecture for a line of compact vehicles, but the investment required for such a project could be prohibitively expensive. Jaguar has been looking into using the Land Rover Evoque platform for a small SUV, Autocar reports, but Land Rover brand manager John Edwards raises issue with such a plan, saying it may not be financially feasible.

Frankfurt Motor Show Notes: Why Jaguar decided to build an SUV

Wed, Sep 16 2015

It was inevitable. Jaguar had to make an SUV, and that notion became reality this week with the debut of the F-Pace, an all-wheel-drive five-seater that will launch in the United States next spring. Some purists may cringe. But in an era when Porsche, Bentley, Lamborghini, Rolls-Royce, Aston Martin, and other traditional luxury brands are all building or (planning to build) SUVs, Jaguar had to evolve. While it seems like a leap for Jaguar to make an SUV, longtime design director Ian Callum said it's been in the works for years. "The first time I was asked the question was when I arrived 16 years ago," he said. So in 1999 (and probably well before that), Jaguar was already thinking SUV. What took so long? "It wasn't a priority," Callum said. Jaguar was concentrating on fixing its existing lineup, which was pockmarked with holes and poorly selling products, like the X-Type. Along the way, Jaguar and sister brand Land Rover were sold by Ford to Indian conglomerate Tata Motors. Flash forward several years, and Jaguar and Land Rover are both experiencing a resurgence in the United States and around the world. Jaguar's lineup is flush with the E-Type's modern successor, the F-Type, plus a new version of the XF. The XJ received a 2016 freshening, and the smaller XE sedan is on the way. Jaguar put its house in order as other factors conspired to make a crossover timely. Fuel prices stayed relatively low, and consumers in the US and China remained steadfast in their love for utility vehicles of all stripes. Making a Jaguar SUV became a priority. "The world was telling us in no uncertain terms this is what they wanted," Callum said. "Not to be in the sector would be a little naive for the sake of purity." Jaguar proved its intent two years ago when it revealed the C-X17 crossover concept at Frankfurt, and the final production model is close to the prototype's striking looks. "I thought we managed to maintain that spirit," Callum said. It's a true Jaguar, with cues from the F-Type, 1968 XJ, and other famous models. Who would have thought Jaguar would make an SUV? "I certainly didn't," Callum admitted. But the F-Pace is here. If Callum is okay with it, purists can be, too. Quick Hits Opel retrenches for 2016 and beyond Opel used the Frankfurt show to display its new generation of the Astra, a critical vehicle line for the German division of General Motors.
