This is a very rare opportunity to own an original UK owned Defender with excellent history documentation and loyal care. I purchased the truck from the previous owner who moved to California just over a year ago from the UK, and brought his Defender Stateside with him. It just had a complete 90k service including a new timing belt as recommended per Land Rover service schedule. The truck is very solid with zero rust causing cancer!! Rear crossmember, bulkhead, and door bottoms in excellent condition- all of which are notorious culprits for the development of rust. The Defender runs excellent, starts first time every time, and gets in excess of 25 mpg consistently!! This is the model that created Land Rover's legendary reputation.
I do have a full rollcage, many various seats, offroad accessories, etc that can be purchased by the new owner should he/she desire.

So, why am I selling? I had purchased the Defender with the anticipation of adding jump seats or a rear bench seat, and using it for family camping trips and such as that- trips to the coast, etc. Top up or down, no worries!! However, we are toting much more equipment than the truck can handle- kayaks, skim boards, surf boards, etc as well as camping equipment for four. The vehicle could easily be modified to carry it all, but the condition of the truck makes it offensive to me to alter it. Originally it was just me and my son, but the wife and daughters love the Defender, as do the dogs, and everyone wants to join the fun. So, we are back to an Excursion, much to our dismay- but fear not, as we are working on a Defender 130 that will accommodate all of us AND our equipment ;-)

Please take a look at all the pictures, as it shows the truck in several configurations- all the same truck, on the same day- yesterday!! It is the epitome of an adult erector set, and consequently can be used year around for nearly any task- and with loads of fun doing them!! Also, the last picture shows a sample of the documentation showing annual milage and inspections from the rigorous MOT in the UK, and last years tax stamps- great documentation!!

I am a certified Land Rover fanatic- just take a look at theRVRbarn for just a few pictures of my previous trucks on the SOLD page. Quite an obsession...

Lastly, please realize this listing is to sell a vehicle. Consequently, your bid is a binding offer to purchase- not take a look/see or test drive. However, should you be so inclined, prebid inspection is certainly permitted and encouraged!! These Defenders are not Escalades- in fact, quite the opposite. But they are legendary for the proper application and personality type who pursues outdoor activities of any type. As such, if you have less than 10 Feedback replies or a Feedback score less than 100%, your bid will be cancelled if you do not contact me prior to bidding. This is a sincere listing, and trust you will treat like wise.

Thanks for looking, and all the best with your bidding!!

Jaguar Land Rover names ousted Renault boss as new CEO

Tue, Jul 28 2020

LONDON — Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has picked ousted Renault boss Thierry Bollore as its next chief executive, with a mission to return Britain's biggest carmaker to profit after a big hit from the COVID-19 pandemic. Bollore took over at Renault in January 2019 after the fall of Carlos Ghosn, but was always viewed as close to the French carmaker's longtime boss and was pushed out in October when the company was looking for a fresh start. Bollore will take over at JLR on Sept. 10, replacing Ralf Speth, whose tenure ends after more than 10 years. "It will be my privilege to lead this fantastic company through what continues to be the most testing time of our generation," Bollore said in a statement on Tuesday. JLR was hit this year first by disruption to sales in China and then by lockdowns across Europe and North America as the COVID-19 outbreak spread around the globe. In 2019, it cut jobs to address tumbling diesel sales, which helped it return to profit. But as the pandemic struck, it slumped to a pretax loss of 422 million pounds ($545 million) for the year ended March 31, 2020. The company has already taken steps to tackle the crisis, including agreeing to a loan facility of around $700 million with lenders in China and further staff reductions. JLR is also in talks with the British government over potential support, according to media reports. Bollore takes over a business that built just over 500,000 cars in 2019/20. He faces a number of tasks, including how to handle the Jaguar brand, which underperforms the Land Rover marque, how quickly to electrify its lineup and a potential hit from Brexit if trade barriers are imposed. JLR has a partnership with BMW on electrification, and parent company Tata Motors recently recommitted to the company. "Tata Group recognizes and values Jaguar Land Rover's future potential highly," said JLR Chairman Natarajan Chandrasekaran earlier this month. "That is why this company is central to our global automotive presence – a presence that we intend to develop for years to come." Jaguar Land Rover and Cambridge have developed a touchless touchscreen

Thu, Jul 23 2020

Jaguar Land Rover and the University of Cambridge are working on new touchscreen technology that eliminates the need to touch the screen. Counterintuitive, right? It’s called “predictive touch” for now, in part because the system is able to predict what you might be aiming for on the screen.  The video at the top of this post is the best way to understand how users will interact with the tech, but weÂ’ll do some more explaining here. You simply reach out with your finger pointing toward the item on screen that you want to select. ItÂ’ll highlight the item and then select it. HereÂ’s how it works, according to the University of Cambridge: “The technology uses machine intelligence to determine the item the user intends to select on the screen early in the pointing task, speeding up the interaction. It uses a gesture tracker, including vision-based or radio frequency-based sensors, which are increasingly common in consumer electronics; contextual information such as user profile, interface design, environmental conditions; and data available from other sensors, such as an eye-gaze tracker, to infer the userÂ’s intent in real time.” Cambridge claims that lab tests showed a 50 percent reduction in both effort and time by the driver in using the screen, which would theoretically translate to more time looking at the road and less time jabbing away at the screen. If the prediction and machine learning tech is good enough, we could see this resulting in a reduced number of accidental inputs. However, on a certain level it almost sounds more difficult to point at a screen while moving than it does to actually touch a section of that screen. Without using the tech and its supposedly great predictive abilities, we canÂ’t come to any grand conclusions. One comparison you may already be thinking of is BMWÂ’s Gesture Controls. ItÂ’s already been addressed with a subtle diss from Cambridge: “Our technology has numerous advantages over more basic mid-air interaction techniques or conventional gesture recognition, because it supports intuitive interactions with legacy interface designs and doesnÂ’t require any learning on the part of the user,” said Dr Bashar Ahmad of the University of Cambridge. Of course, this tech can be used for much more than just vehicle touchscreen control. Cambridge says it could be integrated into ATMs, airport check-in kiosks, grocery store self checkouts and more.

BMW tops Consumer Reports 2023 Brand Report Card

Thu, Feb 16 2023

Feels like we wrote about Consumer Reports' 2022 Brand Report Car and 10 Top Picks a few weeks ago, but it was last April. So the mag is back with a ranked roster of 32 brands and 10 vehicles in four categories for your debating pleasure. Starting with the brands, last year's top three were Subaru, Mazda and BMW. This year, the Munich crew climbed two spots to win the prize thanks to "Superb road test scores and solid results in CR’s reliability and owner satisfaction surveys." Subaru narrowly fell to second, maintaining its four-year run in the top three. Mini, eighth last year, jumped five spots to get the last step on the podium. The rest of the top 10 were Lexus (up one spot from last year), Honda (down one spot from last year), Toyota (up three), Genesis (up 12), Mazda (down six), Audi (down three) and Kia (up eight). The magazine and testing outfit says its Brand Report Card "[reveals] which automakers are producing the most well-performing, safe, and reliable vehicles based on CRÂ’s independent testing and member surveys," and that "Brands that rise to the top tend to have the most consistent performance across their model lineups." Last year's top 10 had six automakers from Japan, three from Germany (giving Mini credit for England), none from the U.S. or South Korea, and five luxury brands. This year's list counts five makes from Japan, two from Germany because Porsche fell out of the top ten, two from South Korea, still none from the U.S., and four luxury brands. Buick again ranked as the best domestic, dropping to 12th after being 11th last year. The big mover was Lincoln, its 10-place jump up to 16th attributed to better reliability from the Corsair and Nautilus. Tesla's improved overall reliability saw it climb six spots to 17th. Dodge climbed one spot to 15th. Jeep got out of the penalty box in last to come second-to-last. Land Rover fell three places into the penalty spot.  CR's top 10 vehicle models The 10 Top Picks list is practically a new list. Only two holdovers made it to 2023, those being the Subaru Forester and Kia Telluride.
