DRIVEABILITY AND PERFORMANCE:
My D1 has been in our shop for the last week and i have been driving this thing over the last several days.... its a BLAST to drive and there is just something truly amazing about being in a properly working P38. They are great cars with lots of luxury to enjoy and personally, i think they are even nicer than the next generation of Range Rovers because they still retain that feeling of old English craftmanship. This truck always fires up and runs like a dream with no overheating, no tics, no knocks, no hesitation. When you hit the gas, the serviced 4.6 has a nice throaty rumble letting you know it can take whatever you throw at it. Acceleration is a breeze and when you hit available "Sport" mode, this truck takes off like a rocket ship! There is no hesitation or shudder from the drivetrain and its operation is velvety smooth. I will miss driving around in this thing b/c the air suspension is truly amazing - ezpecially since im running errands with my 10 day old newborn - once she's out, there's not a bump in the road that can disturb her!!!! All EAS controls work as they should and make this ride unparalleled to coil spring P38's.
The interior is clean and luxurious and in my opinion is one of the BEST color combinations out there. Eastnor Green exterior and Lightstone leather interior are the hallmark of true British Class and distinction. The leather is soft and clean with no rips. The carpets and mats are clean with no stains or burns. All switches and multifunction controls work perfect as do all windows and sunroof. The heat works great as does the AC and this gem still retains the factory stereo and CD player which HAS AMAZING crystal clear quality. The romote entry handset works great too.
If there are to be any quirks to consider about this truck, the are too few to really mention and have no bearing on how great of a truck it is.... the drivers side rear quarter panel has a small ding in it just above the tail light - the drivers side headlamp has a crack in it and honestly, thats about all I can think of.
PERSPECTIVE
This is an awesome truck that has been loved and serviced by factory trained technicians and as I have mentioned, the only reason for the sale is the acquisition of a 2010 HSE. This truck is being sold as is, where is with no warranty - HOWEVER - as owners of a local Land Rover repair shop, we want you to be happy - so lets say something quits working within a reasonable amount of time and we have it on the shelf, we are happy to send it! Things like door handles, alternators, etc etc.... Again, this truck has been THOROUGHLY serviced and looked over as it was my shop mates wifes.... and if i feel good enough about it to drive around my newborn, that whould tell you something. No used car though is impervious to servicing and you should have it in your mind to keep up on its regularly scheduled factory service plan so that it runs and looks great so long as you have it. Purchase of this truck IMPLIES understanding of its condition and happiness with the sale. If you have any questions, NOW IS THE TIME TO ASK!!! It is a nice truck, but still a USED one and you should expect to see normal wear and tear on overall cosmetics and while it IS a rust free truck, you can still expect to see normal road grime, oil saturation, drips and build up - all of this is what i would consider normal.
Again, you have the opportunity to get a great truck - WITH NO RESERVE - so bid to win!!!!

Jaguar Land Rover mulling factory in Georgia?
Sat, Feb 7 2015London's Sunday Times reported last October that Jaguar-Land Rover was sniffing around The South looking for a potential manufacturing site, and was "talking to several southern states." We imagine Georgia was one of them; The Peach State has Kia Motors Manufacturing in West Point, it claims Porsche HQ as a resident, and soon the Mercedes-Benz regional office, too. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution has said that Governor Nathan Deal recently took the initiative to fly to the UK to "make prospect calls" with JLR executives about a deal. We don't have any details about the calls, but we'll guess that they involved Deal making a financial case for GA over other states while sipping a cup of tea. It's said that the English luxury maker wants to build a factory here with a 200,000-unit capacity, to take advantage of the same financial efficiencies that have planted other automakers in the US and Mexico; it opened a facility in China last year to build the Range Rover Evoque, Land Rover Discovery Sport, and the Jaguar XE, and is casting eyes over Brazilian and Saudi Arabian soil for other facilities. No timetable has been given for a decision. This Or That: 1987 VW Vanagon Syncro vs. 1987 Land Rover Defender [w/poll]
Thu, 13 Nov 2014As I scoured auction sites and classified ads for the perfect vehicle to take into battle with Autoblog Associate Editor Brandon Turkus, I knew I needed to find something unique. You see, I'm currently 0-2 at winning a round of This or That, in which two of our editors agree on a category, choose a side, and argue it out over a (mostly) friendly chain of emails.
The first time we did this, my chosen Fiat 500 Abarth took about a third of the popular vote in our reader poll. The second time, my lovely 1980 Oldsmobile 442 did just a little bit better against a 1989 BMW 635 CSi. Despite holding the opinion that my automotive choices, though perhaps a little bit more... obscure than my fellow editors, are still better, an outright win would go a long way toward boosting my vehicular self worth a few notches upward.
With all of that out of the way, even if three isn't my lucky number after all, I go into battle against Brandon knowing full well that I've made the perfect choice: A 1987 Volkswagen Vanagon Syncro. My rough-and-tumble van/'ute has a formidable opponent in the form of a 1987 Land Rover Defender, which, truth be told, is exactly what I was expecting from Turkus, a self-proclaimed Rover aficionado.
Jaguar Land Rover and Cambridge have developed a touchless touchscreen
Thu, Jul 23 2020Jaguar Land Rover and the University of Cambridge are working on new touchscreen technology that eliminates the need to touch the screen. Counterintuitive, right? It’s called “predictive touch” for now, in part because the system is able to predict what you might be aiming for on the screen. The video at the top of this post is the best way to understand how users will interact with the tech, but weÂ’ll do some more explaining here. You simply reach out with your finger pointing toward the item on screen that you want to select. ItÂ’ll highlight the item and then select it. HereÂ’s how it works, according to the University of Cambridge: “The technology uses machine intelligence to determine the item the user intends to select on the screen early in the pointing task, speeding up the interaction. It uses a gesture tracker, including vision-based or radio frequency-based sensors, which are increasingly common in consumer electronics; contextual information such as user profile, interface design, environmental conditions; and data available from other sensors, such as an eye-gaze tracker, to infer the userÂ’s intent in real time.” Cambridge claims that lab tests showed a 50 percent reduction in both effort and time by the driver in using the screen, which would theoretically translate to more time looking at the road and less time jabbing away at the screen. If the prediction and machine learning tech is good enough, we could see this resulting in a reduced number of accidental inputs. However, on a certain level it almost sounds more difficult to point at a screen while moving than it does to actually touch a section of that screen. Without using the tech and its supposedly great predictive abilities, we canÂ’t come to any grand conclusions. One comparison you may already be thinking of is BMWÂ’s Gesture Controls. ItÂ’s already been addressed with a subtle diss from Cambridge: “Our technology has numerous advantages over more basic mid-air interaction techniques or conventional gesture recognition, because it supports intuitive interactions with legacy interface designs and doesnÂ’t require any learning on the part of the user,” said Dr Bashar Ahmad of the University of Cambridge. Of course, this tech can be used for much more than just vehicle touchscreen control. Cambridge says it could be integrated into ATMs, airport check-in kiosks, grocery store self checkouts and more.
