Model Overview
Two all-new direct-injection V8 engines power the Range Rover lineup. HSE and HSE Lux models are powered by a 375-horsepower, 5.0-liter V8, while the SC models get a 510-horsepower, 5.0-liter V8. Both of the new engines are shared with Jaguar but designed for the Land Rover, and are mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission and 4-wheel drive system. They both feature variable camshaft timing and therefore provide better performance, with lower emissions, than the engines they replace without increased fuel consumption. The new HSE can get to 60 mph in just 7.2 seconds, while the SC can make the same dash in 5.9 seconds. Changes to the exterior of the Range Rover are subtle, but inside the Range Rover gets some substantial improvements. Among the most noteworthy is that the traditional analog gauges are replaced by a 12-inch thin-film display screen with virtual dials and displays. Also, a touch-screen system commands navigation, audio and entertainment functions from the center console. Lighting has been reconfigures, and the cabin is trimmed in satin-black and a range of natural wood veneers. A new Adaptive Dynamics suspension system assures good ride comfort on the road--also allowing soft or firm damper settings--while the Terrain Response system, which customizes the way the suspension and 4-wheel drive system respond to a particular terrain, has been revised. Big 4-piston ventilated brakes are complemented with anti-lock and brake assist on the standard HSE, while the Supercharged model gets upgraded Brembo brakes. Terrain Response still allows the driver to dial in the respective type of off-road terrain and have the suspension and 4-wheel drive system change its settings to suit. A new "sand launch control" feature keeps wheels from digging in the sand; an improved rock-crawl mode helps uncontrolled rolling, and Gradient Release Control does a better job of moderating speed downhill. Safety oriented extras on the 2010 Range Rover include a blind spot monitoring system, Automatic High Beam Assist, adaptive cruise control and a surround camera system.Standard features, as before, are vast. The Range Rover comes with virtually every feature that's standard or optional in lesser luxury vehicles, including bi-xenon headlamps, a heated windshield, rain-sensing wipers, voice recognition, tri-zone climate control, a heated steering wheel, heated rear seats and a 710-watt harman/kardon audio system with 14 speakers. The Range Rover now also includes a Portable Audio interface for USB sticks or iPods, along with HD Radio compatibility. Supercharged models, in addition to the performance upgrades, get adaptive front lighting, LED brake and turn signals, a diamond mesh grille, stainless steel pedals, upgraded leather, and a luggage net, among other items. Top options on the Range Rover are aimed at spicing up this luxury SUV's appearance even more; highlights include special woods like Ash Burl or Prussian Blue Burr Maple Wood, special paint hues like Mica Pearl, or showy 20-inch polished wheels. An Autobiography Package pulls a host of appearance upgrades together with 4-zone climate control rear-seat entertainment, and adaptive cruise control.

Specific Description
For sale is my 2010 Range Rover Supercharged, which I have owned since new. The vehicle currently has ~35,800 miles, but may increase slighly as I'm still occasionally driving it.

I have for sale a 2010 Range Rover Supercharged. Alaska White with Sand interior, with a custom Alcantara headliner. It's in very good condition and has always been well-maintained by the dealer (Marin Luxury Cars in Corte Madera). No accidents. All TSBs have been addressed. It has been modified slightly, with an expedition roof rack (a couple of dings on the rack but otherwise in great condition), roof lights (4 in the front, 1 in the rear that comes on with reverse - great at night), steel sliders / running boards for added protection, and 275/55R20 Cooper Zeon LTZ all-terrain tires that work well on and offroad. The vehicle has all options (including a heated wood/leather steering wheel) except for rear seat entertainment and 4-zone climate (but has heated and cooled seats front and rear). The wheels have been painted black, but could do with a retouching (or use as-is). Other custom touches can be seen in the photos. It has a 5.0L V8 with 510 horsepower and 461 lb/ft of torque, and has plenty of power. Rear windows are slightly tinted. Looking for a quick sale as we are likely replacing it with another vehicle.

Exterior is in great condition, with a few chips on the grille (have touch up paint) and a couple of other minor blemishes - also slight crack in the rear driver tailight which I will replace at the right price). Everything works. Vehicle will be going to the dealership for a regular service and oil change this week. Brakes were replaced less than 10,000 miles ago. Still under warranty.

Jaguar crossover won't be based on Evoque or have off-road chops

Wed, 21 Aug 2013

Jaguar's long-rumored crossover won't be built on the same platform as the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque, says the Australian site Car Advice. The future of the new CUV remains uncertain, but if Jaguar does dip its toes into the SUV/crossover pool, though, the new vehicle will likely be a car-based soft roader, lacking (or perhaps more appropriately, not needing) the off-road-engineered chops inherent in Land Rover's small CUV platform.
Jaguar product planner Steven De Ploey explained to Car Advice, "There's many groups around the world [platform sharing] - obviously Volkswagen Group is doing it all the time - but I think we have to be careful. He added, "Jaguar is something quite different... It's about capability, but very much on-road focused capability." That seems to gel with our suspicions that the XQ, as it's expected to be called, will share its platform with an upcoming small Jaguar sedan, the oft-rumored X-Type successor.
Still, we'd recommend taking any mention of a Jaguar crossover with a grain of salt. Based on many of the (quite compelling) statements made by De Ploey against a Jag crossover and previous statements made by Jag's design boss, Ian Callum, the case against a leaper-bearing crossover seems strong. If a high-rider were to arrive from Jaguar, though, the article insinuates that it'd be more in line with the BMW X6 or upcoming X4 - sort of a coupe-based crossover. Like we said, grain of salt. If a Jag crossover is going to arrive soon, the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show is the most likely locale for its debut. We'll find out in a few weeks.

Jaguar Land Rover exploring 3D HUD and infotainment projections

Wed, Aug 21 2019

With its most recent technology research, Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) is exploring the use of 3D projections for a world before and/or after autonomous vehicles come to fruition. In collaboration with the United Kingdom's University of Cambridge, JLR has developed concepts for a 3D head-up display that shows information on the road ahead and a system that projects personalized 3D infotainment for vehicle passengers.  As of right now, hundreds of production vehicles are equipped with two-dimensional head-up displays, some color, others black and white. Using various techniques and different technologies, manufacturers display information in a flat image in front of a driver. Some might find it distracting or unhelpful to have this in the driver's line of sight, and JLR might have found a solution. Rather than wedge the information in between the person and the view ahead, a 3D system that uses augmented reality could display the info onto the road in front of the driver. JLR thinks the system could project navigation directions, safety alerts such as lane departure, hazard detection or other bits typically found in a car's infotainment or instrument cluster. Some might find this to be even more distracting that 2D head-up displays, but to each his or her own. While the 3D head-up display is something that could be used right now, if it were released and passed legal, part two of JLR's 3D technology research is imagined for a life where truly autonomous vehicles are skating across the country. Using head- and eye-tracking technology, the system could lock into the position of numerous people in a vehicle and give each of them a personalized 3D projection "screen." This could be used to track a trip, look up points of interest, or even watch movies. JLR points out this could be used during ride-sharing without bothering others in the vehicle. The work with the Center for Advanced Photonics and Electronics at Cambridge is still in development for now, but it's only a matter of time before 3D tech makes it into cars in some degree.
