Rare opportunity to own one of the last of the Range Rover "Classics", in near-perfect condition.  A two-owner, completely dealer-maintained vehicle, that looks, feels, and drives like new.

You will hard-pressed to find a 1995 Range Rover Classic in better condition for sale.  Though this RRC is not "concourse" condition, it is a definite "excellent" -- always receiving compliments and thumbs-up from Land Rover enthusiasts.  An absolutely clean and mechanically sound RRC.  All original paint, glossy, without dents or any history of body damage.  The upper tailgate is rust-free. Interior is like new, from leather seats, to carpets, to trim and headliner.  Engine idles and runs smoothly, with plenty of power.  Always dealer-maintained, with Land Rover recommended maintenance on all systems.  (All dealer maintenance records available from the date the vehicle was delivered to the first owner.)  Original Harman Kardon sound system, with original head unit (AM/FM/WB/cassette), 6 CD-changer, and factory amplifier and subwoofer.  All systems function, from electrically adjustable heated front seats, to air conditioning, to cruise control to heated windscreen and rear window, to fog lamps.

The 1995 model year is the last year of the Range Rover Classic, the first ever "luxury sport utility vehicle", from a time when "luxury" meant leather, heated seats, and climate control, rather than plastic bumpers, ground effects, low-profile highway tires and wheels.  The original Range Rover retained its body style and basic design for 25 years, from 1970 to 1995.  This vehicle is the last production year for the Range Rover Classic, with the desirable ergonomic dash, driver and passenger side airbags, and electronically-controlleled fuel injection.

The original owner maintained the vehicle as one of a number of Land Rovers he owned, then sold it to the local dealer in 2011.  Fortune smiled on me and I found out about the vehicle before it was offered for general sale to the public.  Since then, I have refurbished or replaced any aging systems with original parts where possible, and with upgraded, quality aftermarket parts where original parts are no longer available.  The listing below includes a near-complete listing of significant repairs, replacements and upgrades.

  • Coil spring conversion by dealer, using standard RRC classic springs, to give original ride height and road feel (2011)
  • Bilstein shocks and steering damper (2011)
  • Front shock towers installed to improve suspension geometry after coil spring conversion and provide neater engine bay appearance (2011).
  • All springs have rubber packings/cups on top and bottom to reduce transfer of road vibration from wheels to frame (a standard practice on the Land Rover Discovery)
  • Complete new stainless exhaust system by NRP:  new integral catalytic converters and Y-pipe that mounts to original exhaust manifolds, runs back to NRP central muffler, then runs back to glass-pack before chrome-plated and angled tailpipe (2011)
  • Magnecor spark plug wires (8 mm blue, heavy-duty, high-spark), new distributor cap and rotor, and new spark plugs (2011)
  • Headliner recovered (2011)
  • Sunroof removed, cleaned, and new rubber seal installed; new sunshield installed with factory headliner material (2011)
  • All dings in roof repaired using paintless dent repair, while headliner removed (small dings that accumulate with age on an aluminum roof) (2011)
  • 4 new tires in 2012 (now with 85% tread left) - Dunlop Radial Rover R/T - 215/85R-16 - which give the original 32" total tire height of OEM tire size (205R16) - an impossible size to find in the USA today.  The Radial Rover R/Ts tires also maintain the "skinny" tire look, which is original to the car, unlike the (incorrect) 235/70R16s that are commonly fitted (e.g., Michelin Synchrones, PIrelli Scorpions, etc.).  The Dunlops have a functional off-road tread pattern, that carries a M+S rating, works well in sand and soil, and is very well-mannered on the highway.  The tires also are factory pre-drilled for fitting of studs.
  • New radiator (2012)
  • Optima Red Top spiral cell battery
  • All new Lloyd's floor mat set for front and passenger areas (never used)
  • Genuine Land Rover rubber floor mats for front and passenger areas (with "Range Rover" embossing and "tire-tread" pattern) (new 2011)
  • WeatherTech load space floor mat
  • K&N reusable high-performance air filter
  • New upper tailgate cylinders (raises smoothly and stays open!) (2012)
  • Hella fog lamps to replace originals (2013)
Also included with this RRC are the following genuine Land Rover accessories that I removed from the vehicle to return it to the stock look.  Purchaser may take or leave these items.  I have photos showing them installed on the vehicle when I purchased it in 2011:
  • Front brush bar with all mounting hardware.  Includes removable headlight guards with thumb screws.  Good condition, though removable headlamp guards could use repainting or powder-coating.
  • Rear lamp guards with original mounting hardware.  Guards could use repainting or powder-coating.
  • Side steps in good condition.
Carfax report is clean.  If it shows a third owner, then this is merely a transfer of title from my personal name to a personal LLC; not a sale of the vehicle.

I have invested a significant sum in "Blanca" over the past two years, with the intention of keeping her for many years to come.  Sadly, I am forced to sell her for financial reasons.  She serves me well as my daily driver, and is our family's preferred Rover (over the 2001 Discovery) for longer highway trips.  All items that needed, or are likely to need in the near future, any maintenance, repair or replacement have been addressed.  This Classic is ready to drive cross-country, or on your next off-road adventure today, with confidence.

The only remaining items on my "project list" are to address some small surface rust where the rear light panels meet the tailgate area.  I have included photos to show this is a cosmetic issue; no body panel perforation.  This is a common problem on RRCs.  There is nothing "hidden" on this vehicle underneath an inexpensive new paint job.

I have many other photos of my baby.  If you wish to see a particular aspect of the vehicle, simply ask and I will send more photos or a link to view them.

PLEASE DO NOT BUY OR MAKE OFFERS ON THIS VEHICLE IF YOU DO NOT INTEND TO COMPLETE THE PURCHASE.  THIS IS A SERIOUS CAR, IN EXCELLENT CONDITION, AND MAINTAINED BY A SERIOUS, MATURE, EXPERIENCED ROVER OWNER, WHO DOES NOT BELIEVE EBAY AUCTIONS OR SALES ARE A "GAME".  PAYMENT TERMS ARE FIRM.  THANK YOU!

Jaguar wants to become the British electric company

Thu, Sep 8 2016

Jaguar has been telegraphing its electric future for years, and this week we're beginning to see it come to fruition. The company's Formula E race team officially launched September 8 with sponsorship, livery, and an interesting name for its racecar, the I-Type 1. It marks Jaguar's return to factory-supported racing and serves as a model for the company's future strategy. "The Formula E championship will enable us to engineer and test our advanced technologies under extreme performance conditions," Nick Rogers, executive director of product engineering at Jaguar Land Rover, said in a statement. "We will apply this vital knowledge as part of our real-world development." Formula E competition starts October 9 as the all-electric racing series begins its third season. Panasonic signed on as the title sponsor of the team. Formula E is a natural move for Jag and allows the British company to remain true to its racing heritage while still looking toward. The company claims seven Le Mans titles, which is the fourth-most in history, even though it hasn't won one since 1990. That's a great lineage, but Jaguar knows it's getting dusty. Launching a Formula E effort allows it to compete in a form of motorsports that should prove relevant to road-car technology. Jag is drawing on Williams Advanced Engineering (you might have heard of its F1 team) for the electric powertrain. Williams also helped with the development of Jaguar's C-X75 plug-in concept car. Meanwhile, we also captured an F-Pace crossover silently testing this week in the Alps. Though it looks like a normal F-Pace, spy shooters report it was producing no engine noise, leading (or perhaps leaping) to the conclusion it's the rumored electric SUV Jaguar is working on. Likely, this prototype has a diesel engine as a range extender. View 11 Photos Though the camouflaged F-Pace is great fodder for speculation, Jag's electric efforts are not a secret. Jaguar and Land Rover showed off three electric-vehicle demonstrators last year and the company is exploring everything from mild hybrids to full electric powertrains. JLR has filed paperwork to secure trademarks for I-Pace and E-Pace. "JLR is definitely rushing headfirst into electrification," said Ed Kim, vice president of industry analysis for research firm AutoPacific.

Jaguar Land Rover undergoes $3.2 billion turnaround plan as sales slump

Thu, Nov 1 2018

MUMBAI — India's Tata Motors on Wednesday announced a turnaround plan for its luxury car unit Jaguar Land Rover, which has been hit hard by trade tensions between China and the U.S., low demand for diesel cars in Europe and worries over Brexit. Under "Project Charge," Tata Motors said it plans to cut costs and improve cash flows at Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) by 2.5 billion pounds ($3.2 billion) over 18 months. JLR also plans to launch several new vehicles, including the Jaguar I-Pace and the new Range Rover Defender over the next few years and will offer a hybrid or full-electric version of all its models by 2020. "Together with our ongoing product offensive and calibrated investment plans, these efforts will lay the foundations for long-term sustainable growth," JLR CEO Ralf Speth said after Tata Motors reported a quarterly loss. JLR has trimmed its pre-tax profit expectations for the current fiscal year ending March 31, 2019, and expects to break even, Speth said, versus an earlier target of profit growth. As part of the turnaround plan, JLR will first focus on cash-saving "quick wins" like reducing non-product investments and speeding up asset sales, Tata Motors said in an investor presentation. In the near term it will improve efficiency in areas including purchasing and material cost, manufacturing, logistics and people, and will focus on strategic and non-core asset sales. JLR has already reduced the number of production days at its UK plants in Castle Bromwich and Solihull. The company said in its presentation it has saved 300 million pounds since it initiated the turnaround plan six weeks ago and is working on 500 ideas for the future. Tata Motors reported a loss of 10.49 billion rupees ($141.9 million) for the July-September quarter, compared with a profit of 24.83 billion rupees in the year-ago period. That was worse than the estimate of a loss of 2.40 billion rupees, according to Refinitiv data. JLR reported a loss of 101 million pounds during the quarter and its margin on earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) fell 130 basis points to 9.9 percent. Retail sales of its Jaguar sedans and Land Rover sport utility vehicles (SUVs) fell 13.2 percent to about 130,000 units, hurt particularly by tariff changes in China and escalating trade tensions. Demand in China remained muted even after the country cut import tariffs for cars and car parts to 15 percent for most vehicles from 25 percent from July.

Watch feds crush classic Mini caught in importation dragnet

Fri, Dec 12 2014

Fair warning for any classic car fans that suffer from high blood pressure: this story might not be good for your health. US Customs and Border Protection is teaming up with British law enforcement to keep unsafe, imported vehicles off the road here – like this Mini. In the government's view, the only way to make things right is to crush the cars, apparently. The destruction is part of Operation Atlantic, a crackdown on Minis and Land Rover Defenders that are being illegally imported. According to Yahoo Autos, this is just one of about 100 vehicles from the dragnet. This specific car came into the US in June, and its VIN indicated a model from 1988. However, the vehicle had a different engine than it should have, and the steering wheel was on the wrong side. It was likely actually from around 2000. To emphasize the crackdown, government officials and press gathered at a New Jersey junkyard to destroy the car. Check out the video below to watch the carnage and listen to the horrible crunching noises, and read the sad press release below. This content is hosted by a third party. Trans-Atlantic Partnership Seeks to Crush Illegal Trade of Unsafe Vehicles NEWARK, New Jersey-U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) destroyed an illegally imported and unsafe Mini Cooper Thursday at a salvage yard in New Jersey following a recent seizure at the Newark Seaport. CBP captured photos, b-roll and principal sound bites for use by news media. This Mini is just one of dozens of vehicles intercepted at ports of entry across the U.S, including ports in Baltimore, Philadelphia, Norfolk, Virginia, Charleston, South Carolina, Savannah, Georgia, Jacksonville, Florida, Houston and Tacoma, Washington. Over the past year, CBP has increased targeting and inspections of suspect imported vehicles, specifically Minis and Land Rover Defenders, as part of Operation Atlantic, a new trans-Atlantic partnership between U.S. and U.K. regulatory and law enforcement officials. "Intercepting illegal and unsafe imports is a top priority for CBP," said Brenda Smith, CBP's assistant commissioner for International Trade. "Through Operation Atlantic, we are stopping illegally imported, unsafe vehicles from driving on our roadways, and at the same time, partnering with our colleagues in the UK to stop this criminal activity at its source." Launched in March 2014 by CBP's Commercial Targeting and Analysis Center (CTAC), U.S.
