This is a 1995 long wheel base. I have loved this Rover. The interior is in great shape. The body is in excellent shape. I've been methodically going through it updating and fixing things. Shortly after buying this Rover I put in a brand new 4.6L V8 motor (has much more power than the stock 4.2L) and have done quite a few other things:
  • 1995 LWB
  • New 4.6L engine at ~143,000 miles (drives so much better than the 4.2L did)
  • New cam, lifters, rockers, injectors, fuel rail
  • New catalytic convertor
  • New oil pump, water pump
  • New ignition module
  • New Mallory distributor, plugs, wires
  • New gear-based steering box
  • 2" OME lift
  • New tires
  • New Alpine stereo (bluetooth, CD, USB, Pandora)
  • Oil has been changed religiously in the new engine
Here is the list of things I planned to do next (see photos):
  • Cover/upholster the sunroof slide cover (it was like this when I bought the Rover; see photo)
  • Replace the plastic cover on the driver's seatbelt latch
  • Fix the taillight bracket (the light works fine, but there's some rust to deal with and fixed mounting; see photo)
  • Replace front, right fog lamp (see photo)
Recently I bought an old Benz 300D which is a lot more economical so I'm selling the Rover. This is a beautiful Range Rover Classic LWB. This is the last year the LWB Classic was built.

Thieves stole $3.7 million worth of Jaguar Land Rover engines

Fri, Feb 3 2017

This past Tuesday was not a good one for Jaguar Land Rover. According to British news source Birmingham Mail, just over $3.7 million worth of engines were stolen from the company's factory in Solihull, England. Reportedly, the thieves drove up to the facility in a stolen semi-truck, found a trailer full of engines, hooked it up, and drove off. The thieves did this twice in one night, with the same truck, and got the first trailer in just six minutes. Perhaps more shocking is that Birmingham Mail reports this is the second time a theft of this type has occurred at the facility. The previous time happened in almost exactly the same way, but the engines taken were valued at just over $1.2 million, and five people were convicted of the crime. Currently, local police are looking for the latest suspects and the engines. The trailers were found, but were empty. We got in touch with a Jaguar representative who provided us the company's official statement: "We can confirm that we are working closely with West Midlands Police to investigate the theft of engines from the Solihull manufacturing plant. A reward is on offer to anyone who has information which leads to the successful recovery of these engines. It would be inappropriate for us to make any further comment whilst this investigation is ongoing." This was the only statement he would provide, and didn't provide answers as to what engines were stolen and if there would be any impact on manufacturing or vehicle deliveries. But if you're in the UK, and you've got a tip, let the cops know. UK electric motor maker YASA expands production 50-fold for EVs

Thu, Feb 1 2018

LONDON — British electric motor manufacturer YASA said on Thursday it was increasing its production capacity from 2,000 to 100,000 units with a new factory to tap into growing demand from carmakers for greener technologies. Automakers are racing to build greener vehicles and improve charge times in a bid to meet rising customer demand and air quality targets but Britain lacks sufficient manufacturing capacity, an area the government is building up. Last year, the government picked a site in central England to house a new automotive battery development facility, which will develop the processes required to manufacture the latest battery advancements. On Thursday, YASA, based near the English city of Oxford, said it had raised another 15 million pounds ($21 million) as part of its expansion. "Our customers are looking to adopt innovative new technologies such as YASA's axial-flux electric motors and controllers in order to meet the needs of the rapidly expanding hybrid and pure electric automotive market," said Chief Executive Chris Harris. The firm exports 80 percent of production and has worked with companies including Britain's two biggest carmakers Jaguar Land Rover and Nissan as well as Aston Martin. JLR will decide this year whether to build electric cars in its home market, previously citing factors such as pilot testing and support from science and government as pre-requisites.
