1993 Range Rover Lwb, Sable Edition - With Air Suspension - Rare Land Rover on 2040-cars

Year:1993 Mileage:159000
Location:

Valrico, Florida, United States

Valrico, Florida, United States

For sale is my County Sable Edition 1993 Range Rover Long Wheel Base - SALHC1343PA639159.

Wife finally making me sell my third vehicle to get our garage back - not to mention kid college fund ;)

Air suspension works as it should; never buy a LWB converted to coil springs (trust me, I have owned three).

Only year to have the beautiful Mediterranean Poplar wood trim – just awesome.

Refer to www.rangerovers.net/modelspecs/1993.html for all specs.

Sable model was a $1,500 option introduced mid-way in 1993 model year.

There were approximately 200 of the models with the Beluga Black paint and "Unique Black Accent CSK Wheels and Dark Sable Connolly Leather Seats and Trim".

fyi - CSK was introduced to Range Rover in 1991 as a special edition model named after Charles Spencer King, the man who designed the original 2-door Range Rover.

The 1993 County LWB was named "Best New Light Truck or Sport Utility Vehicle " by the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC).

It was also named "Best Sport Utility Vehicle in North America" by Playboy Magazine.

California model: all 1993s sold in CA had an extra $100.00 charge "For costs incurred by LRNA to comply with the California Air Resource Board (CARB) requirements."

Three owners with first owner having it 18 years, as follows:

>Original owner was dentist in San Fran, CA.; he owned it from 1993 new to approx. 2011 and clearly loved it with many refreshings including the new engine we will go over below.

>Second owner, also from CA, had a few unique range rovers but mostly was involved in a California Porsche club.

>Third owner (me, private seller) - a Land Rover enthusiast that has owned four over the last 16 years (one new Discovery II and three pre-owned RR LWBs, 1993/4/5

I honestly like the 93/4 LWB models better than the 1995 (even though the 95 had airbags with the discovery soft dash).  Why?  The classic dash set up - old school British!

I transported on a reputable car carrier from CA to FL - not driven.

New engine, 4.6, was installed at 112K mileage - a $9K upgrade - see picture of invoice.  Only 45k miles on it - many, many years to go!  See receipt picture

A high performance cam was installed same time as engine to increase performance and drive ability.

fyi - original model’s 4.2 V-8 had 200 HP; the 4.6 has 225 and feels and sounds very stronger (as I have owned two other lwbs).

Driver side electric seat went out a year ago but believe it could just be a fuse; anyone over 5 feet, 9 inches does not need to move seat anyways.

The passenger side seems to work ok moving back but lately started having issues moving forward; regardless, due to the uniqueness of classic range rovers, I recommend the new owner keep seats in a standard position at all times (in case they go out).

Heated front windshield and front seats do not work as per normal on rangies but not a huge deal.

Multiple sets of keys and remote key fobs.

Original manual and papers included.

Tail gate is fine but new owner may want to replace frame with aftermarket aluminum version within five+ years; the tail gates on all rangies have issues as it is a steel component; you can replace the frame reasonably (or the whole glass unit).

The main body is aluminum and is in great shape except for the passenger door bottom area (four inches) were a patch was done (but cannot really see well) - see picture.

No wrecks; also, the Paint is original - still shiny too as evidenced by pictures; amazing looking truck that turns heads.

Connolly Leather has been deeply conditioned four times in last three years; prior to that it is unknown but the leather is very, very nice.  Lexol brand is way to go!

Front seats almost look as if no one sat in them; what impresses me most is how thick the British Connolly leather is on the 1993s.

Rear seats are almost incredible but there is one area that is a little dry so could later be redyed (6 inch area), etc to get back to normal (albeit unnecessary).

Battery installed late 2012 from second owner.

Tires are new from second owner and are like 95%; they were bought in 2012 by second owner

Expensive fuel filter installed 2014 (tough to replace in back right of vehicle).

I will include a new air filter in its box (for later use).

Sunroof and air suspension operate with no issues.

Headliner was replaced by second owner and is perfect; only the sunroof portion is not 100% - just needs minor regluing (albeit unnecessary).

The pictures are mostly done in the neutral air suspension position but I have a couple shots showing the high and low profile ride heights.

Again, never buy a Rangie LWB converted to coil springs as it (1) loses it charm, (2) usually has the car sit too high, and (3) loses its very unique feel (very squishy and I love it).

Front passenger door has the minor issue repaired by first owner - I believe he had opened it into a San Fran curb but you cannot see the patch; it should be corrected only if repainted.

Original manual and what we believe are full records – massive stack of papers including the document for the engine conversion.

iPod port installed by second owner.

Second owner also installed the nice light guards.

Multi-CD changer.

Cassette stock radio with a/d/s speakers and subwoofer.

For me, the major draw to 1993 vs 1994 was the Mediterranean Popular wood; they switched to burlwood for 1994.

Wood is a 9+/10 condition; only the shifter cap is faded and can easier be replaced (if even wanted).

Rare Sable rear cover included; that alone draws major dollars in the aftermarket.

Dash is perfect; zero cracking, etc.; this truck has been cared for and is definitely one that will remain a strong classic for another decade+.

The undercarriage is super clean; it had some type of coating/painting done by a previous owner (but I do not know details).

Air conditioning and heating work as they should.

No air bags.

Cup holders are great but if you want more let me know and I’ll include the bolt on ones I took off an old Land Rover Discovery (otherwise I may sell those on ebay for a nice sum).

I know a concern with most SUVs is whether or not a shorter person can get in easily; no worries as the air suspension can be lowered when you park.

Smoke Free by me last two years; no info on owners 1 & 2.

Cruise control not working but that is common issue on these SUVs.

Sold new at British Motors of San Francisco Ca.

It was heavily been dealer serviced and maintained but specialist Roverland in San Francisco has performed majority of services.

This car has been owned by three meticulous enthusiasts that treated the car well.

LWB is the only way to go for the Classic Rangies; the short wheel bases just don't compare.

Last series of RRs that were old school British (they dropped off with the 1996 model).

H4 headlights.

Serviced factory air suspension by owners one and two; I never had to service it as third owner.

The rangie has a slightly throaty sound from the upgraded NRP after-market exhaust system the second owner installed.

Replaced right front caliper and new brake pads in July 2012.

Factory remote key system works perfectly on one fob but the second one has a dead battery (no big deal to replace).

Other work done by owners two/three: the catalytic convertors, transfer case, front wheel bearings, radiator, water pump, brakes.

The headliner is new; only the sunroof portion has some unstuck glue (easily corrected).

Second owner installed medium after-market tint (which looks nice with Black paint); this can be removed easily, if wanted.

MESSAGE ME WITH ANY SPECIFIC QUESTIONS.

Clean title; I own this SUV out right.

***This is a 1993 so please don't expect a show car - but do expect an 8 out of 10 in my eye - a rangie you will be very proud of***.

Jaguar Land Rover exploring 3D HUD and infotainment projections

Wed, Aug 21 2019

With its most recent technology research, Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) is exploring the use of 3D projections for a world before and/or after autonomous vehicles come to fruition. In collaboration with the United Kingdom's University of Cambridge, JLR has developed concepts for a 3D head-up display that shows information on the road ahead and a system that projects personalized 3D infotainment for vehicle passengers.  As of right now, hundreds of production vehicles are equipped with two-dimensional head-up displays, some color, others black and white. Using various techniques and different technologies, manufacturers display information in a flat image in front of a driver. Some might find it distracting or unhelpful to have this in the driver's line of sight, and JLR might have found a solution. Rather than wedge the information in between the person and the view ahead, a 3D system that uses augmented reality could display the info onto the road in front of the driver. JLR thinks the system could project navigation directions, safety alerts such as lane departure, hazard detection or other bits typically found in a car's infotainment or instrument cluster. Some might find this to be even more distracting that 2D head-up displays, but to each his or her own. While the 3D head-up display is something that could be used right now, if it were released and passed legal, part two of JLR's 3D technology research is imagined for a life where truly autonomous vehicles are skating across the country. Using head- and eye-tracking technology, the system could lock into the position of numerous people in a vehicle and give each of them a personalized 3D projection "screen." This could be used to track a trip, look up points of interest, or even watch movies. JLR points out this could be used during ride-sharing without bothering others in the vehicle. The work with the Center for Advanced Photonics and Electronics at Cambridge is still in development for now, but it's only a matter of time before 3D tech makes it into cars in some degree.

Not just 'our logo on a sail': Automakers gain technology from America's Cup

Wed, Jun 28 2017

HAMILTON, Bermuda - From water taxis that "fly" on hydrofoils to aircraft wings and cutting-edge car steering wheels, the America's Cup has produced technology with potential far beyond its "foiling" catamarans. With their focus on carbon fiber and aerodynamics, the teams that fought for the America's Cup attracted partners including planemaker Airbus and automotive groups BMW and Land Rover, who were keen to learn from them. One area where this is likely to have an impact is in harnessing "foiling" technology, where the America's Cup boats "fly" above the water on foils, cutting water resistance. "Foiling in small electric boats will most likely appear on rivers in major cities. We are just at the beginning of the foiling adventure," Pierre Marie Belleau, head of Airbus Business Development, who managed its partnership with Larry Ellison's Oracle Team USA, told Reuters. The space-age catamarans used in the 35th America's Cup, which ended in victory for Emirates Team New Zealand this week, can sail at maximum speeds of 50 knots (57 mph) and have more in common with flying than sailing."CARBON FIBER RELATIONSHIP" For Jaguar Land Rover, which sponsored British sailor Ben Ainslie's attempt to win the cup, the relationship is a strategic one with a focus on technology and innovation. "We don't just get our logo onto a sail," Mark Cameron, JLR's Experiential Marketing Director, said by telephone, adding that the carmaker would be providing more designers to help Land Rover BAR with technology for their next campaign. "This is a dynamic sport that is developing fast. ... It's moving quickly just like the car industry is moving quickly. It's all changing," Land Rover produced a special steering wheel for Ainslie to use in the America's Cup, with in-built gear shift paddles that allowed him to adjust the catamaran's "flight" levels. The relationship is similar between BMW and Oracle Team USA, with the German automaker focused on areas including the electronics in the wheel used by skipper Jimmy Spithill, the development of carbon fiber used to make the boat and its components, and the aerodynamic testing. "We like to think of ourselves more as a partner than a sponsor. We have a very strong carbon fiber relationship," Ian Robertson, who is the BMW management board member responsible for sales and brand, told Reuters between races. "This is a dynamic sport that is developing fast. ... It's moving quickly just like the car industry is moving quickly.

2019 BMW X7 vs luxury SUV rivals: Comparing specs and photos

Wed, Oct 17 2018

Today we get our first-ever look at the first-ever 2019 BMW X7 crossover. We've actually already had our first-ever drive in an X7 Prototype. And so, we thought it appropriate to follow that up today with the first-ever X7 comparison of specs between BMW's first-ever three-row crossover with legitimate room for seven and its many high-dollar competitors. On paper, the 2019 X7 definitely seems to most closely align with the Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class. Their similar dimensions, interior space, engine choices and price would certainly imply where BMW placed the target when developing X7. We used those same elements to determine three-row vehicles likely to be cross-shopped or that should be cross-shopped. These include the Audi Q7, Land Rover Discovery, Volvo XC90 and Lincoln Navigator. Yes, the latter is a truck-based SUV as opposed to a crossover, but tell that to all the people lining out the door at the local Lincoln emporium. They do not care, and neither shall we. We also included the 2019 BMW X5, which was completely redesigned for this year and therefore not the first-ever. That makes it less appealing? Either way, lining the new X5 up with the SUV that leapfrogs it atop BMW's SUV hierarchy should provide a good idea of just how much more you get by going up a model number. Engines and model lineup Again, the X7 aligns closest with the GLS, offering a base six-cylinder in its xDrive40i model and an upgrade turbo V8 in the xDrive50i. The Mercedes engines have greater output, but the GLS still accelerates slower than the BMW. As the 2019 X5 offers the exact same engines, we would also expect the X7's fuel economy to be superior to the GLS once its estimates are announced. It should be noted, though, that the GLS offers a high-powered AMG model whereas we anticipate the X7 to offer a plug-in hybrid model comparable to the X5 upcoming xDrive45e model. The other luxury SUVs diverge in their engine choices and model lineup. The Audi Q7 offers a base turbocharged four-cylinder, as does the Volvo XC90 in its T5 model, which we left out of the above chart entirely for space reasons. That the Q7 3.0 TFSI supercharged V6 gets the same fuel economy estimates as the four-cylinder is proof positive that engine is purely around for its lower base price.
