I've had this Rover for about 15 years now, and I've loved it. I hate to sell it! If you want a solid, reliable 4x4 to drive off-road or to get around in the worst mountain weather, this is the vehicle for you! It runs great, and I've maintained it well. This is the '87 model, which means it had FAR LESS computer/electronic accessories that the '89 and newer models had - NO COSTLY REPAIRS! And it has shock and spring suspension, NOT electronic air suspension (nothing to break). I replaced the standard shocks with awesome Bilstein shocks for a super smooth ride over the roughest terrain.

The last time we had a big snow here, I had a BLAST driving this thing all over the place, past all kinds of vehicles that were stuck. The Range Rover is a heavy vehicle, and has an awesome, virtually indestructible transmission - it can practically pull a tree stump out of the ground! It will go ANYWHERE.

Vehicle has NEW factory-sized  Pirelli snow tires on it, including the spare (that's about $800 in tires alone). Everything works. The silver paint is getting faded. I just replaced the hood because of a rust spot (which is the only part of the body that isn't galvanized). I found a new hood that was the same color and just swapped it out. The rear lift-gate window is in excellent shape, having been replaced a few years ago. The mileage shows 106K, but that's not accurate; we thought the speedometer was broken for a while, and decided to replace it before selling, but after taking it apart found a broken speedo cable instead. I've replaced the cable and left the original speedometer in place. However, we've driven it very little since the speedo stopped working (mostly in the winter when nothing else can move), so the mileage isn't a LOT more than that.

I also have a complete Factory Shop Manual. If you are just a little it mechanically inclined, this manual shows you how to remove, replace, or repair ANYTHING on this vehicle. It includes step-by-step instructions and exploded diagrams. I'm no mechanic, but I've done most of my own maintenance over the years.

Some people have told me, "That thing must cost a fortune to maintain", but not so! It's only expensive if you go to the Rover dealership. There are several great online parts sources, and TONS of great websites and forums to help. I am constantly amazed at how easy it is to fix almost anything on this vehicle myself, or at a local garage.

These classic vehicles are getting very rare and hard to find, especially in great running condition.

Recharge Wrap-up: Jaguar Land Rover talks EVs, Batteries should be modular

Wed, Sep 3 2014

A new study out of Germany suggests adopting a modular approach to battery offerings in plug-in hybrid and extended range electric vehicles. Automakers could offer the same car with different battery sizes (and different costs, accordingly) to drivers depending on their driving ranges. This would optimize the total cost of ownership for various drivers better than the current approach. Developing a modular battery design and offering appropriate batteries for different customers "is the key for electric powertrains to meet customer expectations and become cost competitive against conventional technologies," according to the report from the Institute of Vehicle Concepts, German Aerospace Center. Learn more at Green Car Congress. Jaguar and Land Rover are looking to offer more electric driving from their vehicles. Wolfgang Ziebart, head of product development for Jaguar Land Rover, said in an interview that its hybrid system is being tweaked for more electric power and "downsized" combustion. He also said the likely target market for EVs would be second and third vehicles, rather than primary vehicles for urban driving. Within that market, Europeans look for something smaller, while American drivers lean toward larger luxury vehicles for their second car. Ziebart uses the Tesla Model S as an example of American tastes, and compares its size to that of the Jaguar XJ. Read more at Automotive News Europe. Thailand will likely approve a Volkswagen factory as early as next week. A German newspaper suggests that Thailand's Board of Investment is set to greenlight the plant, which is planned for a site near the Port of Bangkok. Thailand is a relatively large and growing auto manufacturing country, which seeks to be a major producer of eco-friendly vehicles. The country's "Eco2" program would provide incentives to Volkswagen if it builds clean cars and meets certain production targets. Read more at Reuters. Formula E has chosen Sky Deutschland for broadcasting rights in the German market. The deal includes television rights, as well as online broadcasting. Sky Deutschland has 3.8 million subscribers in Germany and Austria. Showing the races on Germany's largest pay television provider should help generate interest for the series, particularly the Berlin ePrix - the inaugural season's penultimate race - scheduled for May 30, 2015. Jaguar Land Rover mulling factory in Georgia?

Sat, Feb 7 2015

London's Sunday Times reported last October that Jaguar-Land Rover was sniffing around The South looking for a potential manufacturing site, and was "talking to several southern states." We imagine Georgia was one of them; The Peach State has Kia Motors Manufacturing in West Point, it claims Porsche HQ as a resident, and soon the Mercedes-Benz regional office, too. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution has said that Governor Nathan Deal recently took the initiative to fly to the UK to "make prospect calls" with JLR executives about a deal. We don't have any details about the calls, but we'll guess that they involved Deal making a financial case for GA over other states while sipping a cup of tea. It's said that the English luxury maker wants to build a factory here with a 200,000-unit capacity, to take advantage of the same financial efficiencies that have planted other automakers in the US and Mexico; it opened a facility in China last year to build the Range Rover Evoque, Land Rover Discovery Sport, and the Jaguar XE, and is casting eyes over Brazilian and Saudi Arabian soil for other facilities. No timetable has been given for a decision. Jaguar Land Rover recalls Takata airbag-equipped cars

Fri, Aug 5 2016

In the latest chapter of what feels like the never-ending recall, Jaguar Land Rover announced that it's calling back 2009-2011 Jaguar XFs and 2007-2011 Land Rover Range Rovers for defective Takata airbags on the front passenger side. These Takata airbags have propellant that may have degraded and, if activated, could release metal shrapnel. The company is breaking up the recall into four phases, since currently there are not enough parts to do a full recall. Since the airbags can be more seriously affected by high heat and humidity, the first phase will cover vehicles that were sold and/or registered in regions with high temperatures and humidity. The regions included are as follows: Alabama, California, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, Texas, Puerto Rico, American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, and the US Virgin Islands. Other phases will begin as parts become available, and priority will be given to regions at greater risk of having defective equipment. Jaguar Land Rover encourages owners of affected vehicles to go to www.SaferCar.gov to check if their vehicle is included in the current recall. The first phase includes 54,000 of 108,000 affected vehicles. The company is also notifying owners of the issue, who will eventually get a second notification when parts are available so they can schedule a time to have the airbags replaced. Related Video:
