IN DEPTH MODEL OVERVIEW/REVIEW
The stylish 2008 LR2 looks every bit a boxy, off-road-ready Land Rover, yet it's oriented more toward on-road performance than the larger LR3 and Range Rover, with a "permanent intelligent" all-wheel-drive system that improves on-road fuel economy versus full-time mechanical systems, and gradient release control, a system that maintains vehicle control on steep, slippery slopes. All LR2s come with a 230-horsepower, 3.2L in-line six-cylinder engine that's nearly identical to that used in the Volvo XC90. It's matched with a six-speed automatic transmission with CommandShift, which allows the driver to control shifts. In the LR2, the six can propel the LR2 to 60 mph in 8.4 seconds. The LR2's interior has been designed to make the most of the space it has; like other vehicles in the Land Rover lineup, the LR2 has "stadium seating," where back-seat passengers sit slightly higher than those in front, for a better view and improved legroom. There's also a standard two-piece sunroof to give the cabin more of a sense of airiness. It has one of the most spacious cargo areas in its class, with 26.7 cubic feet found behind the rear seats and nearly 59 cubic feet with the rear seats folded. The LR2 rides on a fully independent suspension that's tuned both for on-road performance and off-road ability. Electronic stability control, with roll stability control to help mitigate the chance of a rollover, is standard.

Jaguar Land Rover's latest tech makes roads safer for bikes [w/video]

Tue, Jan 20 2015

Safety in automobiles isn't just about protecting the occupants anymore. It's about protecting pedestrians who might be struck by an automobile, and as Jaguar Land Rover is demonstrating, it's about protecting cyclists as well. The latest experimental safety system from the British automaker is called Bike Sense, and it builds upon technologies the company has demonstrated recently, taking them a step further to make the road safer for those riding on two wheels. The system uses a combination of colors, sounds and vibrations to alert the driver of a potential hazard that might have otherwise gone unnoticed. Demonstrated on an XJ sedan, the system identifies nearby two-wheeled vehicles as pedal-powered or motorized, and alerts the driver accordingly. If a cycle is passing a the vehicle's blind spot, the top of the seat will vibrate to virtually "tap" the driver on the left or right shoulder, prompting him or her to look over that shoulder for the hazard. LEDs inside the cabin will then illuminate amber to red in the direction that the bike is passing. The system will even chime a bicycle bell or motorcycle horn as the two-wheeled vehicle approaches, and vibrate or stiffen the accelerator pedal if the driver keeps moving towards the obstacle. And if an occupant of the parked vehicle starts to open the door into the path of moving vehicle, it'll flash a light, sound an alarm and even vibrate the door handle to warn the occupant of the oncoming hazard. We could imagine the alerts getting a little distracting, but JLR says the system is designed to prioritize potential hazards when their are groups of pedestrians, bicyclists and/or motorcycle riders on a busy urban street. This is, of course, just the latest in a long string of new systems JLR has under development, following such technologies as the Transparent Bonnet, the Smart Assistant, the Virtual Windscreen for track sessions and the 360 Virtual Urban Windscreen for city driving. Xcar drives Jaguar C-X75, other Spectre villains of 007

Thu, Oct 29 2015

James Bond returns to US theaters very soon in Spectre, and with the action-packed film wrapped, the producers are lending out the keys to some of the movie's automotive stars. We've already seen Jay Leno behind the wheel of Bond's Aston Martin DB10. Now, Xcar's Alex Goy has taken a turn in some of the flick's villainous rides from Jaguar Land Rover, including a very special Jaguar C-X75. The crew from JLR's Special Vehicle Operations team certainly did an impressive job of giving the movies baddies some appropriately nefarious rides. To challenge Bond, they turned the Land Rover Defender into a beast with chunky, off-road tires and blinding-spot lights. They also made the Range Rover Sport SVR even more diabolical than normal with a blacked-out look and LED lightbar. Of course, the king of Spectre's villain cars is the C-X75. According to Goy, most of the ones in the movie use the company's 5.0-liter, supercharged V8, but two are actually original prototypes with the hybrid setup. He gets to drive one of those special examples in this clip. While limited to some low-speed cruising, the coupe still looks wonderfully menacing on the road. Related Video:

2016 Jaguar F-Type R at Monticello | AutoblogVR

Tue, Sep 27 2016

This week we indulged in a bit of fun. We took one of our favorite sports cars, the 2016 Jaguar F-Type to Monticello Motor Club north of New York. Senior Editor Greg Migliore selected the 550-horsepower R variant and pushed this Jag to the limit at one of North America's prettiest tracks. He reveled in the supercharged V8's power and sound as he embraced Monticello's curves and long straightaways. Meanwhile, Consumer Editor Jeremy Korzeniewski had a similar experience. Kind of. He lapped Monticello in the 2016 Land Rover Range Rover Sport SVR and then went off-roading at a challenging course nearby. It's the best of both worlds. He gets to soak in the blown V8 – but also gets to splatter a little mud. Each week, new episodes will launch on the AutoblogVR App. We'll preview them here on Autoblog, but for the full immersive experience, head over to the app, which you can download for free from the App store and Google Play.
