Reluctantly I am selling my summer project, a completely rust-free 2000 DII that I purchased from the original owner back in June. I liked it because it was a simpler SD with NO sunroofs and the cloth interior ( I always thought it was cool), and it came in a fairly rare special-order burgundy finish.
It was also a REAL 1-owner vehicle, that has always lived all of its life here in the balmy mid-peninsula Northern California weather ( NO nasty hidden nor overt rust issues like almost every single one coming from the East coast or the rust belt down south, or a flood car ), purchased brand-new at Cole European ( when they were down on California Drive in Burlingame, CA; they have since relocated to Walnut Creek, CA).
The Discovery was given to the daughter (who frankly was lost in the sauce when it came to car maintenance), and she could not afford it or had any idea as to maintenance and repairs.
It was at that time in serious need of tires (less than 5% left), thus the first thing I did was to have a set of new KUHMO radial tires installed. Also replaced one of the rear SLS bags and now cycles perfect.
My plan was to have this DII set up with a mild lift kit, but found an older DI XD instead, that had already had all kinds of $ put into it.

This Discovery is a basic DII series, SD model (with no sunroofs as previously mentioned, so good-bye sunroof leaks or broken sunroofs to contend with), with fairly rare cloth interior.
160K original miles on its original BOSCH 4.0L engine, which actually runs very well.  It has the standard Land Rover amenities such as AC, Power windows ( and ALL FOUR work; I replaced the driver's side regulator, the one that always breaks), central locking ( which actually works, with a functional remote, actually two), factory alarm, etc.
It has near-new tires ( at least 95% tread left) mounted on the factory 16" alloy wheels, and the brakes look like they were recently done F and R. All rotors are mirror-perfect, withtout any grooves, hot spots or gouges. Also had a new water pump installed recently.

The Disco II needs some work, as the temp gauge went up to 3/4 twice on me. I tried to figure out a pattern, but it occurred at random ( once right in front of my house, and another time after having driven for about 45 miles coming back from the east bay).
I have not replaced the thermostat, the clutch fan, cooling fan sensor or the radiator, and do not think that they have before, so it may very well be its time. It could very well be simply one of those issues, but I would like to be upfront about any impending repairs needed.
I did purchase a brand-new clutch fan ( made in the USA, not some junk part made in China), but never installed it. There is no oil in the water, or water in the oil. The coolant level remains the same, and does not mysteriously disappear. There is NO spewing of coolant, water vapor or any weird smoke coming out of the tailpipe, either.

I simply do not have the facilities to do the repairs myself, and my dear spouse is about to hang me because I showed up at the house with yet another Land Rover ( if you are wondering why I am selling it!), thus the reason to list it for sale. The Rover is very straight, and it would make a terrific off-road Land Rover.
Additionally, it does NOT have SRS, ABS nor CHECK ENGINE lights on ( and they are ALL connected; no removed or "burned out" bulbs here like most people do, rather than perform the repairs properly). CA DMV fees are all paid thru SEP 13. I have a clear California title and also a CARFAX / AUTOCHECK REPORT available for you to see:

Overall, it is a very solid, COMPLETELY RUST-FREE Land Rover Discovery II, a fairly rare SD model, with good running powertrain.  CLEAR California title, NEVER wrecked and NEVER in an accident. It has not been through a dozen owners, car auctions or sleazy car lots. It was purchased new by the original owner, and then passed on to me.

Feel free to EM me or call with questions (650) 430-4660 * If you are far and out of the area, I would be willing to help transport it anywhere in the US at the most economical transporter rate available.

Upon receipt of payment, I shall immediately mail you the title and bill of sale to the Landie, via USPS Priority with tracking, unless noted otherwise.
I shall be glad to assist / arrange transportation or delivery of this Discovery II to any location nationwide or overseas, at the most economical shipping rate available. You pay the transporter for his cost upon delivery of the Rover.

JLR shares backstage 'No Time to Die' Range Rover Sport SVR carnage

Sat, Sep 18 2021

James Bond's latest adventures will take him to Norway and Scotland, as seen in the trailer for the upcoming "No Time to Die." Somewhere along the way, the British spy encounters a pair of Range Rover Sport SVRs, the ultimate high-performance SUV from JLR's Special Vehicle Operations division in one of the movie's centerpiece car chases. Now, the company has given us a behind-the-scenes look at its filming, and the automotive carnage that ensues. The filmmakers wanted to take a Bond action sequence off-road, and chose the Range Rover Sport SVR as the the bad guys' pursuit vehicle. Armed with a JLR product placement deal (Bond drives a new Defender in another part of the movie) the henchmen had no qualms picking one of the most expensive things on the menu. Unfortunately, that also makes is a bit hard to watch when machines that start at $115,000 are totaled as they careen through the air or roll onto their roofs. The SVRs share a 5.0-liter supercharged V8 with the Jaguar F-Type SVR and are the most powerful vehicles in the Land Rover portfolio. With 575 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque on tap, translating to a 0-60 time of 4.3 seconds, they're the perfect weapon for chasing a super-spy down a dirt road. As for Bond himself, 007 makes his escape in a decades-old yellow Toyota Land Cruiser Prado. Specifically, it's a 90-series, a smaller version built from 1996 to 2002 that was never sold in the U.S. but remains popular in other parts of the world. The most powerful engine had just 190 horsepower from a 3.4 liter V6 shared with the similar-era 4Runner. Despite the power discrepancy, Bond manages to dispatch the Range Rovers in spectacular fashion. Wait, this is a Range Rover promo, right? "All the stunts are for real, there's nothing that's CGI'ed," said Neil Layton, the film's action vehicle coordinator. "So to make the cars more dramatic on the screen, we had to turn off a lot of safety feature aids that's on there." Interestingly, another non-JLR product shows up in the video as well. The camera car is a blacked out (to minimize reflection in other cars) Ford F-150 Raptor outfitted with a massive rooftop boom. "No Time to Die" is hits the screens on October 8. Land Rover wins legal battle over Evoque clone Land Wind X7

Fri, Mar 22 2019

Luxury carmaker Jaguar Land Rover, part of Tata Motors Ltd, said it won a case in China against local rival Jiangling Motors Corp for making cars that copy features of Range Rover Evoque. Beijing Chaoyang District Court said on Friday that Evoque, whose latest model was launched in 2018, had five unique features that were copied directly in the Land Wind X7 built by Jiangling Motors, leading to widespread consumer confusion. The court ruled that all sales, manufacturing and marketing of the Land Wind X7 must stop immediately and Jaguar Land Rover be paid compensation. The two sports utility vehicles have a similar shape, with the roof and windows tapering from front to back, and near-identical tail lights and character lines on the side panelling. Britain's biggest carmaker had sued Jiangling in a rare move in 2016. Despite widespread and often blatant copying, global automakers generally don't take legal action in China as they feel the odds of winning against local firms are low. Also, a lawsuit can be bad for branding if the Chinese public think a foreign company is bullying domestic competitors. The new Range Rover Evoque will be launched in China in April 2019. Jiangling could not be immediately reached for comment.

Jaguar Land Rover undergoes $3.2 billion turnaround plan as sales slump

Thu, Nov 1 2018

MUMBAI — India's Tata Motors on Wednesday announced a turnaround plan for its luxury car unit Jaguar Land Rover, which has been hit hard by trade tensions between China and the U.S., low demand for diesel cars in Europe and worries over Brexit. Under "Project Charge," Tata Motors said it plans to cut costs and improve cash flows at Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) by 2.5 billion pounds ($3.2 billion) over 18 months. JLR also plans to launch several new vehicles, including the Jaguar I-Pace and the new Range Rover Defender over the next few years and will offer a hybrid or full-electric version of all its models by 2020. "Together with our ongoing product offensive and calibrated investment plans, these efforts will lay the foundations for long-term sustainable growth," JLR CEO Ralf Speth said after Tata Motors reported a quarterly loss. JLR has trimmed its pre-tax profit expectations for the current fiscal year ending March 31, 2019, and expects to break even, Speth said, versus an earlier target of profit growth. As part of the turnaround plan, JLR will first focus on cash-saving "quick wins" like reducing non-product investments and speeding up asset sales, Tata Motors said in an investor presentation. In the near term it will improve efficiency in areas including purchasing and material cost, manufacturing, logistics and people, and will focus on strategic and non-core asset sales. JLR has already reduced the number of production days at its UK plants in Castle Bromwich and Solihull. The company said in its presentation it has saved 300 million pounds since it initiated the turnaround plan six weeks ago and is working on 500 ideas for the future. Tata Motors reported a loss of 10.49 billion rupees ($141.9 million) for the July-September quarter, compared with a profit of 24.83 billion rupees in the year-ago period. That was worse than the estimate of a loss of 2.40 billion rupees, according to Refinitiv data. JLR reported a loss of 101 million pounds during the quarter and its margin on earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) fell 130 basis points to 9.9 percent. Retail sales of its Jaguar sedans and Land Rover sport utility vehicles (SUVs) fell 13.2 percent to about 130,000 units, hurt particularly by tariff changes in China and escalating trade tensions. Demand in China remained muted even after the country cut import tariffs for cars and car parts to 15 percent for most vehicles from 25 percent from July.
