                  Reluctantly I am selling my summer project, a completely rust-free 2000 DII that I purchased from the original owner back in June. I liked it because it was a simpler SD with NO sunroofs and the cloth interior ( I always thought it was cool), and it came in a fairly rare special-order burgundy finish. 
 It was also a REAL 1-owner vehicle, that has always lived all of its life here in the balmy mid-peninsula Northern California weather ( NO nasty hidden nor overt rust issues like almost every single one coming from the East coast or the rust belt down south, or a flood car ), purchased brand-new at Cole European ( when they were down on California Drive in Burlingame, CA; they have since relocated to Walnut Creek, CA).
The Discovery was given to the daughter (who frankly was lost in the sauce when it came to car maintenance), and she could not afford it or had any idea as to maintenance and repairs. 
It was at that time in serious need of tires (less than 5% left), thus the first thing I did was to have a set of new KUHMO radial tires installed. Also replaced one of the rear SLS bags and now cycles perfect.
My plan was to have this DII set up with a mild lift kit, but found an older DI XD instead, that had already had all kinds of $ put into it.


              This Discovery is a basic DII series, SD model (with no sunroofs as previously mentioned, so good-bye sunroof leaks or broken sunroofs to contend with), with fairly rare cloth interior.
160K original miles on its original BOSCH 4.0L engine, which actually runs very well.  It has the standard Land Rover amenities such as AC, Power windows ( and ALL FOUR work; I replaced the driver's side regulator, the one that always breaks), central locking ( which actually works, with a functional remote, actually two), factory alarm, etc.
It has near-new tires ( at least 95% tread left) mounted on the factory 16" alloy wheels, and the brakes look like they were recently done F and R. All rotors are mirror-perfect, withtout any grooves, hot spots or gouges. Also had a new water pump installed recently.

               The Disco II needs some work, as the temp gauge went up to 3/4 twice on me. I tried to figure out a pattern, but it occurred at random ( once right in front of my house, and another time after having driven for about 45 miles coming back from the east bay).
I have not replaced the thermostat, the clutch fan, cooling fan sensor or the radiator, and do not think that they have before, so it may very well be its time. It could very well be simply one of those issues, but I would like to be upfront about any impending repairs needed.
I did purchase a brand-new clutch fan ( made in the USA, not some junk part made in China), but never installed it. There is no oil in the water, or water in the oil. The coolant level remains the same, and does not mysteriously disappear. There is NO spewing of coolant, water vapor or any weird smoke coming out of the tailpipe, either.

 I simply do not have the facilities to do the repairs myself, and my dear spouse is about to hang me because I showed up at the house with yet another Land Rover ( if you are wondering why I am selling it!), thus the reason to list it for sale. The Rover is very straight, and it would make a terrific off-road Land Rover.
          Additionally, it does NOT have SRS, ABS nor CHECK ENGINE lights on ( and they are ALL connected; no removed or "burned out" bulbs here like most people do, rather than perform the repairs properly).                Overall, it is a very solid, COMPLETELY RUST-FREE Land Rover Discovery II, a fairly rare SD model, with good running powertrain.  CLEAR California title, NEVER wrecked and NEVER in an accident. It has not been through a dozen owners, car auctions or sleazy car lots. It was purchased new by the original owner, and then passed on to me.

Jaguar Land Rover building new Special Vehicle Operations facility

It's only been a couple of months since Jaguar Land Rover announced the formation of its new Special Operations division, and we've already seen a number of vehicles to come out of it. But now the British automaker has announced a new facility that will house its elite skunkworks department.
Set to be built at Prologis Park in Ryton, England, on the outskirts of Coventry, the new Special Vehicle Operations Technical Centre will encompass dedicated production lines, F1-style flexible workshops, a dedicated paint studio and VIP suite for commissioning bespoke projects. JLR will spend some $33 million on the facility that will be home to 150 specialists - 100 of them being new hires.
The first project which the Special Operations division is working on is the F-Type Project 7, but we've already seen more projects in the pipeline - including the upcoming Range Rover Sport SVR - and you can bet there'll be more. The revival of the Lightweight E-Type also falls under Special Operations, but is undertaken by the Jaguar Heritage department located nearby at Browns Lane.

Lexus tops JD Power Vehicle Dependability Study again, Buick bests Toyota

It shouldn't surprise anyone, but Lexus has once again taken the top spot in JD Power's Vehicle Dependability Study. That'd be the Japanese luxury brand's fourth straight year at the top of table. The big news, though, is the rise of Buick. General Motor's near-premium brand beat out Toyota to take second place, with 110 problems per 100 vehicles compared to Toyota's 111 problems. Lexus owners only reported 89 problems per 100 vehicles. Besides Buick's three-position jump, Scion enjoyed a major improvement, jumping 13 positions from 2014. Ram and Mitsubishi made big gains, as well, moving up 11 and 10 positions, respectively. In terms of individual segments, GM and Toyota both excelled, taking home seven segment awards each. The study wasn't good news for all involved, though. A number of popular automakers finished below the industry average of 147 problems per 100 vehicles, including Subaru, (157PP100), Volkswagen (165PP100), Ford/Hyundai (188PP100 each) and Mini (193PP100). The biggest losers (by a tremendous margin, we might add) were Land Rover and Fiat, recording 258 and 273 problems per 100 vehicles. The next closest brand was Jeep, with 197PP100. While the Vehicle Dependability Study uses the same measurement system as the Initial Quality Survey, the two metrics analyze very different things. The VDS looks at problems experienced by original owners of model year 2012 vehicles over the past 12 months, while the oft-quoted IQS focuses on problems in the first 90 days of new-vehicle ownership. Like the IQS, though, the VDS has a rather broad definition of what a problem is. Because of that, a low score from JD Power is no guarantee of extreme unreliability, so much as just poor design. In this most recent study, the two most reported problems focused on Bluetooth connectivity and the voice-command systems. The former leaves plenty of room for user error due to poor design (particularly true of the Bluetooth systems on the low-scoring Fords, Volkswagens and Subarus), while the second is something JD Power has already confirmed as being universally terrible. That makes means that while these studies are important, they shouldn't be taken as gospel when it comes to automotive reliability. Jaguar Land Rover offers (some) detail about new Ingenium engine

Jaguar Land Rover officially announced its Ingenium family of engines with the unveiling of the 2.0-liter version in the Jaguar XE concept at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show, but it kept details very thin at the time. All we knew was that the new turbocharged mills could be configured to use gasoline or diesel, and be positioned longitudinally or transversely. Months later, JLR is finally letting some more info slip about its new baby, but there are still some big questions to be answered.
For the Ingenium project, Jaguar Land Rover gave its engineers a clean sheet of paper and told them not to worry about using any previous parts or machinery. In the end, the designers came up with a family of turbocharged, aluminum-block engines based around modular, 500cc cylinders to allow it to grow or shrink as the market demanded. The layout was also made adaptable enough to incorporate hybrid drivetrains, if needed. "Being configurable and flexible are the two key strands of Ingenium's DNA because we have future-proofed our new engines from the outset," said said Ron Lee, the company's director of Powertrain Engineering.
To maximize efficiency, Jaguar promises that all versions of the Ingenium engines come with computer-controlled, variable oil pumps and water pumps to use only as much energy as needed. They also get direct injection, roller bearings for the cams and stop/start. The diesel version alone has 17 percent less internal friction than the mill it replaces, the company claims. JLR is also promising class-leading figures for Ingenium's torque and horsepower too, but it's not giving away those specs just yet.
