Remarkably clean 1999 Land Rover Discovery Series I. This is the last year of the Discovery Series 1, and an SD model. It is super-straight, RUST-FREE DI throughout, to include chassis, undercarriage, roofline and gutters, door panels, fenders, quarter panels, door sills, rocker panels and tailgate areas.

Always a California vehicle, originally destined to be part of the LRs factory Fleet-lease program, but sold instead with 10 miles as "new" at Land Rover of Redondo Beach, California in 1999.

It is fairly loaded with some of the Power ammenities such as Power windows ( all four work, to include a recently replaced driver's side regulator, the one that always goes out), central locking, factory alarm, etc.

This Discovery I is an SD, non Power-sunroof model ( less  hassles with than the leakage-prone sunroof models), with factory roof bars and the factory Tow package ( although nothing has been towed).

Completely stock, reliable 4.0L GEMS engine ( the last series engine with the simpler electronics), NOT one of the 4.6L nightmare motors of later DIIs with the endemic cases of slipped cylinder sleeves, premature oil-pressure failure or defective-block issues. (Ever wonder why out of all Discovery models for sale most are 03-04s, and not the earlier ones..?)

155K original miles, and its condition is remarkable considering its vintage. No engine issues or other drama. The powertrain runs very well. This Discovery I runs VERY well, tracks straight and drives nicely both in town and in the highway.

All Power accessories work well, to include its ICE-COLD Air Conditioning system, all four Power windows, both Power mirrors, and all instruments, heater/defroster, horn, radio an lights.

There are NO service lights on ( NO TC, CHECK ENGINE, ABS or HDC lights turned off or reset).

Considering its vintage, This Discovery I is remarkably clean, and the photos do not do it justice~! The 1999 SD is one of the best years to own. It is turn-key, WITHOUT the usual head-gasket issues nor overheating, and it will make a great traveler or off-road trekker.

The interior upholstery is in remarkable shape, with NO rips, tears or splits of the leather. Surprisingly, it has the optional leather interior instead of the usual cloth, standard in all SD models. The dash is mint, with no cracks or weathering. The carpets and all door panels are very clean, to include the rear cargo area.

Feel free to EM or call with pertinent questions or serious inquiries. I can be reached at (650) 430-4660, no later than 9pm PST, please.

I have spent over 20 years in this great country's military and have owned Land Rovers of various types and vintage for nearly 35 years. While I am not a mechanic, I am an avid Land Rover enthusiast ( I own four others) and consider myself fairly well-versed on most of the Land Rover quirks and have assessed this DI as a VERY solid, straight and rust-free example of an unrestored Land Rover Discovery.

Honest, clean CARFAX REPORT. CLEAR title. NON-SMOKER, NO pets or children in it. Always adult-owned, and its general condition reflects it.

Overall, a straight, good-running and good looking D1, ready for trips, trails or off-road excursions with a reasonably opening bid and no reserve.  Runs and drives well and it looks very nice.

* I reserve the right to end this listing at any time prior to the end of the auction, should a serious offer or a BUY-IT-NOW offer present itself.

I am glad to assist with NATIONWIDE or OVERSEAS delivery at the most economical shipping rate available. I can do all coordination from here, and you pay the transporter cost directly to the shipper upon receipt of the Discovery.

Should you be the winning bidder, I would like to receive payment within THREE business days, please. Cashiers check or Bank draft are preferred. Personal, business or annuity checks may be utilized, but must clear funds source prior to any transportation arrangements being made. Another option is a Bank wire transfer to the local CHASE Bank branch here in town. That expedites the process considerably and allows for faster shipping arrangements.

Upon receipt of payment, I will overnight the title and Bill of sale to the winning bidder.

Finally, PLEASE be sure to ask any and all questions prior to placing a bid, and prior to the end of the auction. If you have a ZERO rating, you MUST contact me in advance, prior to placing any bids. Not doing so will get you blocked and prevented from any further bidding in my listings. NO EXCEPTIONS.

Please ensure that your source of funds is in place BEFORE placing a bid. We are all adults here; let's not engage in silly games because it is counterproductive and a waste of time for all.

       Thank you for your interest~!

Jaguar Land Rover posts profitable quarter amidst big yearly losses

Mon, May 20 2019

Jaguar has posted its first profit in quite some time, as the financial quarter ending on March 31 brought in a net income of $151.6 million. However, that is the light in the end of the tunnel, as full year results through March showed a $4.58 billion loss (GBP3.6 billion). The losses are again attributable to declining sales in China, with a whiff of the still-lingering Brexit process. While JLR's annual U.S. sales were up 8.1 percent, and U.K. sales improved by 8.4%, overall sales came down 5.8% to 578,915 vehicles. For April, Chinese sales nearly halved as they dropped by 46 percent. Earlier this year, JLR's woes caused its owner Tata Motors to post the biggest ever quarterly loss in Indian corporate history, at nearly $4 billion. JLR's CEO Ralf Speth stated that the company is "reducing complexity" and transforming its business by cost savings and cash flow improvements, citing the fourth-quarter profits as an example of the ongoing turnaround. Speth said JLR has already managed to deliver $1.59 billion (GBP1.25 billion) of efficiencies and savings. JLR says its turnaround program, dubbed Charge, will drive it to at least $3.18 billion (GBP2.5 billion) of investment, working capital and profit improvements by March 2020, and that it currently has $4.84 billion (GBP3.8 billion) of cash. Speth continued that JLR will "go forward as a transformed company that's leaner and fitter," and that the sustained investment in new products and technologies will drive future demand. There has been earlier speculation of Tata Motors selling JLR to the PSA Group, but as Autocar reports, Tata's financial chief again refuted these rumors. JLR also announced today that its CFO of 11 years, Ken Gregor is stepping down after 22 years with the company, and that he will be succeeded by JLR's Chief Transformation Officer, Adrian Mardell.

Jaguar Land Rover building new Special Vehicle Operations facility

Sun, 17 Aug 2014

It's only been a couple of months since Jaguar Land Rover announced the formation of its new Special Operations division, and we've already seen a number of vehicles to come out of it. But now the British automaker has announced a new facility that will house its elite skunkworks department.
Set to be built at Prologis Park in Ryton, England, on the outskirts of Coventry, the new Special Vehicle Operations Technical Centre will encompass dedicated production lines, F1-style flexible workshops, a dedicated paint studio and VIP suite for commissioning bespoke projects. JLR will spend some $33 million on the facility that will be home to 150 specialists - 100 of them being new hires.
The first project which the Special Operations division is working on is the F-Type Project 7, but we've already seen more projects in the pipeline - including the upcoming Range Rover Sport SVR - and you can bet there'll be more. The revival of the Lightweight E-Type also falls under Special Operations, but is undertaken by the Jaguar Heritage department located nearby at Browns Lane.

10 most memorable cars and SUVs of 2019

Tue, Dec 24 2019

It's no surprise that a car reviewer will drive a large number of cars over the course of a year. Indeed, when the clock strikes midnight on Dec 31, I will have driven 75 new cars, trucks and SUV this year (and one old Peugeot) over the course of weekly evaluation loans and first drive events. That sure seems like a lot. Some definitely got more attention than others, and some came and went without leaving much of an impression – I completely forgot I drove a Kia Forte. Yet in the spirit of this day, I thought I'd pick the 10 that I would love to see under the Christmas tree tomorrow morning. You know, just in case you were looking to get me something. I'll also throw in a couple disappointments that were memorable for the wrong reasons. They'd get sent back to the store on Boxing Day. Lexus LC 500 Pictured below and resplendent in its Flare Yellow metallic paint, the car that would reach highest on my list is the divine Lexus LC 500. As a devout lover of GT cars, the LC ticks all the boxes. Muscular and characterful engine? V8, check. Beautifully made and memorable interior? It's gorgeous, to hell with Remote Touch. Check. Comfortable and reasonably practical? Superb seats and, uh, yeah. Makes me want to stand there and stare at it? You bet. Though I long figured my heart would say LC but my head "Porsche 911," after this go-around, that's no longer the case. LC, pretty please. 2020-lexus-lc500-f34-2 View 19 Photos Polestar 1 I actually feel lucky that I got to drive the Polestar 1. Only 150 will be produced each year, and it's a far more special thing than it would initially appear. And that's despite initially appearing to be a beautiful, classic two-door GT car with a roof so rakish it's only possible because it's made of carbon fiber. That itÂ’s a massively powerful plug-in hybrid with more all-electric range than any other PHEV is a thick dollop of whipped cream on a slice of Toscakaka. You know, Swedish dessert, Swedish car. Fine, I'll stick to Ikea references.  Polestar1_Launch_SanFrancisco-0014 View 44 Photos Volvo V60 Cross Country Speaking of Sweden, did I drive this car off the road there? Sure did! And despite this, the V60 Cross Country scratches that certain wagon itch and looks sensational to boot. I wish it were available with the T8 plug-in hybrid powertrain, but it's best not to get greedy at Christmas.
