Remarkably clean 2003 Land Rover Discovery Series II. This is the first year of the Discovery Series II 4.6L with the new revisions, updated interior and front end, and an SE model. It is a super-straight, totally RUST-FREE DII throughout, to include chassis, undercarriage, roofline and gutters, door panels, fenders, quarter panels, door sills, rocker panels and tailgate areas. This is a hard-to-find ONE-OWNER DII, originally sold new at Land Rover of Redwood city here in the Bay area, and has ALWAYS resided locally in Redwood City, northern California since its original sale date. Original owner-purchased until now. All computerized service records are available at Land Rover of RWC. Completely stock and original. NO towing, NO off-roading, NO accidents and NO issues. FLAWLESS CARFAX report, and it scores 81 out of a 51-70 rating. It is fairly loaded with all Power amenities except DVD system. This Discovery II has the dual Power-sunroof option ( both work fine and DO NOT leak), roof bars and factory Tow package ( although nothing has been towed). Stock, all-original 4.6L BOSCH engine. 96K original miles. No engine issues or other drama; the powertrain runs GREAT. This Discovery II runs and drives VERY well and drives nicely both in town and in the highway. Considering its vintage, This Discovery II is remarkably clean, and the photos do not do it justice~! The 2003 SE is one of the best years to own. It is turn-key, WITHOUT the usual head-gasket issues nor overheating, and it will make a great traveler or off-road trekker.
Beautiful Roman-bronze factory finish still shines very well, and looks very nice. No dents, fading nor oxidation of the clearcoat or finish, to include the roof and hood areas. Nice factory optional 18" HURRICANE alloy wheels with MICHELIN radial tires mounted on them; they have approximately 85% tread all around. Jaguar Land Rover reveals Bond cars [w/video]
Tue, Sep 15 2015We interrupt your regularly scheduled Frankfurt Motor Show coverage to bring you something far cooler. Jaguar Land Rover has officially introduced the cars it's lending to the latest James Bond film, Spectre. There's not much that wasn't previously covered as part JLR's February 2015 release, although there are some comments from the stars, as well as a pair of behind-the-scenes videos. At the very forefront of the British brand's charge is the Jaguar C-X75, the stillborn concept that set hearts aflutter with its handsome looks and its innovative turbine-powered drivetrain. According to Jaguar Land Rover, the orange supercar will be piloted by baddie Dave Bautista as part of an enormous chase scene throughout Rome. Meanwhile, Eve Moneypenny, played by Naomie Harris in her second Bond flick, will pilot the blacked-out Defender. For those that remember Skyfall, Miss Moneypenny spent most of the film's pre-title sequence tearing through Istanbul, Turkey behind the wheel of a silver Defender. Joining the Defender is the most powerful vehicle Land Rover has ever produced. The new Range Rover Sport SVR will show up wearing a menacing black paint job and featuring some extra lighting on both its roof and in its bumper. It's not clear who will be driving the 550-horsepower SVR, but in the photos released by JLR, it's shown trading places with a pair of Defenders as they rampage through the Austrian snow. 2019 Mercedes-Benz G-Class vs big luxury off-roaders: How they compare on paper
Mon, May 7 2018During our first drive of the 2019 Mercedes-Benz G-Class, the all-new SUV's product manager was asked to identify competitors that might have been benchmarked in its development. The look on his face was about the same as if someone had asked him to recite King Lear in Klingon. As far as Andreas Hoeppel was concerned, the G 550 and AMG G 63 doesn't actually have a rival, or at least something the engineers and designers thought to compare it against. The G-Class is a G-Class, who cares what the other guys are doing? Well, in case you care, we figured we'd plug the new G-Class' specs into the old Autoblog Comparo Generator 3000 (TM) to see how the G 550 and AMG G 63 compare to the Range Rover and its mightiest SVAutobiography Dynamic model, plus the Lexus LX 570 and Bentley Bentayga V8. Frankly, Heir Hoeppel was onto something as each of these is wildly different. But, they do share some common elements: giant size and weight, ultra-lux interiors, and far more off-roading capability than other luxury SUVs offer and any of its owners are likely to ever utilize. Sad. So enjoy this trip down specification lane, and if you're still left hungry, you can always check out our Range Rover comparison or create your very own comparo. Off-Road Clearances and Capability All the fancy off-roading software and special cameras in the world won't do you a lick of good if your SUV is too close to the ground or has low-hanging body work that'll get easily ripped off. As such, check out each of these uber-SUV's ground clearance, approach and departure angles, and wading/fording depths. In this case, the Range Rover has an advantage due to its air suspension that can raise itself into an Off-Roading height that's a whopping 2 inches higher than the new G-Wagen. Sadly for itself, Lexus only provides figures for its air suspension when in normal height. It could match or surpass the Range Rover for all we know (but doubt it). As Land Rover does provide figures for the Range Rover's approach and departure angles in normal and Off-Road height, you can get an idea of just how much clearance the new G-Wagen has without any fancy (and expensive to fix) raising and lowering air suspension hardware. In fact, its departure angle is better than even the Range Rover's Off-Road height. Bentley doesn't provide any such information despite touting the Bentayga's surprising off-roading talents.
Jaguar Land Rover gets to work on new university R&D center
Fri, Mar 20 2015Jaguar Land Rover has a raft of new products in the pipeline, from the new Defender to the next-generation XF sedan. But new product isn't the only thing the British automaker is investing in: it's also opening new facilities around the world, including what it's calling the National Automotive Innovation Centre back home in the UK. Based at the University of Warwick, the new $220-million R&D center is the result of a joint effort between JLR, its parent company Tata, the manufacturing arm of the university and the British government. The facility will bring together professionals from the automaker as well as its suppliers with academics to encourage, as the name suggests, innovation in the automotive sector. Its 355,000 square feet are earmarked to become the hub for Jaguar Land Rover's advanced research activities, including "workshops, laboratories, virtual engineering suites and advanced powertrain facilities, equipped to enable a full range of design, visualisation and prototyping activities." The cornerstore was just laid in a ceremony this week, but the facility isn't due to open until the Spring of 2017 when it will encompass some 1,000 employees, including 600 relocated by JLR to the new location from other sites in the UK.
