2003 Discovery 2 HSE

Introduction:

This HSE is AMAZING.  It looks brand-new.  It’s been judiciously serviced.  It comes with all of the RARE options offered to the HSE Discovery 2 such as parking assist technology & rear air suspension!  And, oh yeah… it was MY WIFE’S truck!!! So right there it should speak volumes as to the kind of awesome condition it’s in… But more on that shortly. If you have been doing your research or have at least seen them around town, then you know that the ‘03/’04 Discovery’s are the final model years of this beloved body style and as such come with all of the refinement, upgrades and options that were developed along the way in the 15 year run of the Discovery.  They sat next to the new generation of full-size Range Rovers in the show-room, and they offer a lot of their upgrades that legendary model.  This particular truck, as you will read below, is at the top of its class with its RARE options package and COMPLETE servicing profile.

Service and Reliability:

As a Land Rover technician whose passion for the marquee inspires my dedication, I always use the best genuine parts and expert skill with their fitment.  This truck was built to be the family chariot during our babies first few years of life – with no exceptions made with an eye towards safety, cosmetics, and reliability.  This truck does not overheat, hesitate or stumble and the shift quality is excellent. All windows, sunroofs, controls and options work as they should.  The following is a list of all of the servicing done to ensure that your ownership experience is as enjoyable as possible!

  1. Complete 3 angle valve job and head gasket service including: cooling system fluid flush and renewal, head gasket renewal, head stretch bolt renewal, intake resealed, valve covers resealed,  throttle body de-ice plate resealed, exhaust system resealed, engine oil and filter renewed.

  2. 30K mile interval service including: genuine spark plugs, New STI spark plug wires, New air element, New Belt, Differential fluids renewed, transfer case fluid renewed, transmission fluid renewed, all safety components inspected and adjusted to factory spec.

  3. ABS System Service – Full system flush and brake fluid renewal, new shuttle valves installed, new master cylinder installed.

  4. Brand new factory hoses installed.

  5. Upgraded front timing cover installed, new oil pump installed, front cover resealed

  6. Brand new genuine brake pads and rotors installed all around.

  7. Brand new Michelin tires installed.

  8. Brand new pioneer audio system installed.

  9. Brand new headliner installed.

  10. Brand new battery installed.

  11. Clean California title, passed new stringent California Star-Smog certification with flying colors.

Styling and Options:

If you’ve scanned ahead to the pictures, you are no doubt excited by how immaculate this truck is.  It looks like a brand new vehicle.  And honestly, it looks better in person!  The Eastnor Green paint is original and incredibly deep and glossy to the touch.  The finish is REMARKABLE.  The black HSE leather interior is also exceptionally clean and plush with carpets still being soft, and the leather seats looking, smelling, and feeling like new.  I should mention that these pictures were taken on an overcast and even partly rainy day... its a testament to how gem-like the finish is to shine up like that with almost no visible sun.  There were one or two breaks in the clouds and I snapped a few contrast shots which illustrate the depth of the paint and color.

The air conditioning is ice cold and the heat is great too.  Both seat heaters work perfectly as well.  Around town in Beverly Hills, this vehicle is a total head turner and with all of its recent servicing and transmission in selectable “Sport” mode, I can leave even the new full sized Range Rovers in my dust when the light turns green; this truck is a ROCKET SHIP.  The ‘03/’04 ONLY instrument cluster owes its aggressive styling to the performance and engineering accomplishments of BMW, the company which owned Land Rover from ’99 through ‘04.  Rounding out the sleek look of this vehicle is one of my PERSONAL favorite options: the upgraded advanced headlight assemblies.  Not only do they project a beam pattern that was years ahead of its time, the lamp assembly itself includes two vertical amber side markers; a final nod to the Discovery’s heritage and evolution from the first Series Vehicles of the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s.  It’s a really cool fusion of the original Land Rover design with the final years of the original lineage.

Beyond all of that this vehicle has a few other features that you almost NEVER find on a Discovery 2:

First – Parking Assist. Technology.  The Discovery owes this advancement to the Range Rover’s it rolled off the assembly line with.  It has the very same parking sensors built into the rear bumper of the truck.  So when parking, you have a doplar effect like tone that pulses faster and faster the closer you get to a fixed object… let’s say another parked car or divider.  What’s nice about this feature is that it you can turn it off from a switch on the instrument cluster.  So let’s say you are a Jedi master with your parking skills and don’t want this system working, it disables as the touch of a button.

Second – Rear Air Suspension.  This feature is the advanced version of the EAS that was originally developed.  It is more robust and reliable than older models and works perfectly.  For most people it is great for two reasons – A) Towing.  It will automatically level your ride height when pulling a trailer as opposed to a normal vehicle that collapses and does a wheelie with your camper in tow. B) Enhanced comfort.  You will absolutely notice a difference when you hit speed bumps, pot holes, and crowned roads/dip crossings.  This was really nice to have while carting around an infant in the rear.

Thirdly – Factory Navigation/Audio.  The factory nav/audio unit is something of a collector’s item now.  The screen works perfect as do all functions.  It is included with this vehicle as I believe it is part of the trucks character.  Currently, my wife had a Pioneer Audio unit installed for the sole purpose of having an iPod hook up accessible for music.  If you want to refit the OEM nav unit, it can be done easily as all of the OEM plugs are intact.

Performance and Operation:

As I mentioned a few times already, this truck was really combed over to be the best it can be.  My wife has driven it and loved it with no complaints of any kind.  All electrical windows, seats, sunroofs, doors, lights work perfect.  ….and YES.  Cruise control works.  The steering is crisp, the suspension is tight, and the drivetrain has been fully serviced making it totally reliable.

There is a common sentiment that Disco’s will never have great stopping power.  This truck proves that statement wrong and illustrates how great of an ABS system it is, when properly serviced.  This truck has GREAT stopping power.

Purchasing, Perspective & Why Buy From Me:

No one puts a Land Rover together better than me, PERIOD.  It’s the vehicle I drive, and the vehicle I RACE.  Nearly two decades of Rover ownership and service are poured into every Rover that I see into new hands.

All too common are sales from the brokerage houses where a vehicle will receive a detail service and nothing else.  Leaving maintenance work for the pleasure of the new owner; often time’s immediately following reception of the vehicle.  Beware of any vintage Rover that does not share the same service points as the ones I advertise with my trucks.  They are ESSENTIAL for long term reliability and any Classic without these services are ticking time bombs.  I am not a Land Rover tech that drives home in a Honda Civic.  I come from a long line of British Car technicians and Live, Breathe and even RACE the green oval.  I understand ALL of your concerns and needs and do my best to ensure that you will be happy based on a simple, yet powerful concept:  DOES THIS VEHICLE MAKE ME HAPPY?  WOULD I PUT MY WIFE AND BABY IN IT? WOULD I LOVE TO HAVE IT?  The answer is always yes.  And that’s when I know they are ready.  I care.  I know you do, too.

Vehicles that I see off not only have domestic endpoints, they go to the farthest reaches of the planet.  They have gone to Europe, Asia, The South Pacific, Central America and currently, a client recently purchased a trail-ready 88 RRC and is en route to Tierra Del Fuego after I picked him up in the vehicle at LAX when he flew in to receive it!  The point here is, I believe in each and every vehicle that I usher in to new ownership.  Please see my recent vehicle sales and I’m sure you’ll be impressed.  I have A LOT of copy-cats out there.  If you aren’t buying one from me… its, well, NOT from me even though other sellers go so far as to “cut-n-paste” my listings!!!

While these vehicles are all totally looked after, they are not immune to future service needs and flaws.  They are used vehicles and normal flaws and wear should be expected as the vast majority of them are pushing 20+ years old.  As I have said, my wife has driven this truck faithfully with no operational complaints but I invite you to ask ANY AND ALL QUESTIONS NOW!  There are no queries too obscure; your satisfaction is the goal here.  Additionally, eBay offers a 3rd party inspection service to verify ALL of your acquisition needs IN PERSON.  Purchase of the vehicle = SATISFACTION.  Once this auction is over, the winning bid and purchase imply that satisfaction has been achieved and will be understood as such.  There are no warranties offered here, but that said, there is always an unspoken “hand-shake” warranty meaning that should something fail within a reasonable amount of time – say a hose, a coilpack, a distributor, blower motors, an alternator, a switch, etc – I will be happy to send you what I have available at that time.

This is a NO RESERVE AUCTION so you are bidding to win!  Please make sure that you bid ONLY what you are prepared to pay.  This means, when the auction is over, and the winning bid is placed, this becomes THE SALE PRICE of the vehicle.  Under no circumstances does it open the door to negotiate or back out of your commitment.  The people bidding for this vehicle actually want it.  Do not spoil their chances at ownership by arm-chair bidding.  Yes, everyone joins eBay at some point, and there is no prejudice against lower transaction numbers here – HOWEVER – if I suspect and/or become aware of any insincerity on the part of said bidder, I reserve the right to cancel all bids from and block that insincere bidder from this auction.

Completion of this transaction is fairly straight forward.  Once the auction is over, I will be contacting the winner immediately and we can discuss the easiest way to finalize the transition.

Who is this truck for:

This truck is an absolute head-turner and I will miss seeing it in the driveway.  We have made a lot of great memories with it.  This truck is for everyone albeit a great daily driver, family car, weekender, guest vehicle, luxury off-road build platform and beyond.  I am fully confident that this vehicle will be as good a friend to you as it has been to us and the winner of this auction is no doubt LUCKY!  It’s a gorgeous truck and should last you as long as you have it.  Thanks and happy rovering!!!

All of the Bond cars of 'No Time To Die' (caution for spoilers)

Thu, Sep 30 2021

Note: The following overview of the cars in No Time To Die contains spoilers. Read at your own risk, or come back after seeing the film to make sure you caught everything.   No Time To Die picks up right around where Spectre leaves us. James Bond (Daniel Craig) and Madeleine Swann (Lea Seydoux) are driving along in Bond’s restored and iconic DB5 in Matera, Italy. Things donÂ’t stay all that cheery for long in picturesque Matera, though. As is tradition in Bond films, the first car chase hits us with an explosion of action in what's a super-long opening scene. Fourth-gen Maserati Quattroporte: The baddies in the beginning are driving a Maserati and chasing after Bond in the DB5. Specifically, theyÂ’re in a fourth-gen Quattroporte, which feels right for a chase scene in Italy. Its squared-off looks are mean enough, and its Italian growl is a good background soundtrack to the DB5Â’s inline-six. In addition to the Quattroporte, the chase scene in Matera is home to a couple of the best stunts of the entire movie, including the arch jump done with a Triumph motorcycle seen in trailers — Matera is extremely hilly. Eventually, Bond and Swann find themselves in the DB5 again together, which is where the famous gatling gun scene from the trailer commences, but not before the bulletproof windows and body of the DB5 are thoroughly tested. RIP to the first-gen Range Rover Classics and Jaguar XFs that joined the Maserati in pursuit of Bond (here's a list of other Bond cars over the years). As the DB5 escape scene concludes, we catch a glimpse of what appears to be a Ferrari from the 1970s. However, the view was far enough away that weÂ’ll need a second look to be sure of the exact model. Land Rover Series III: Next time we see Bond, heÂ’s fishing in Jamaica and driving around a blue Land Rover Series III. ItÂ’s yet another of the many Land Rover products featured throughout the film, and unlike most of BondÂ’s Aston Martins, this one doesnÂ’t seem to have any unique features. The other intriguing vehicle out of Jamaica? An old Chevrolet Bel-Air expertly and effectively piloted by Bond newcomer, Ana de Armas. Next up, we get a few shots of the new and still-not-for-sale Aston Martin Valhalla mid-engine supercar (also seen in trailers). BondÂ’s old boss M is in the scene which appears to have been shot in some secret wind tunnel of sorts. Much to our dismay, nobody ends up driving the Valhalla in the film. Could it be a teaser for what the next 007Â’s car is?

Second 'No Time To Die' trailer drops with lots of crunching metal

Thu, Sep 3 2020

The second trailer for the new James Bond film, "No Time To Die," was posted to social media Thursday morning, getting us thoroughly hyped for the forthcoming installment thanks to some spicy car content and lots of other ridiculous, big-budget action sequences.  Fair warning for the purists: This might contain plot- and character-related information from the trailer itself. Also, it appears that many Land Rover Defenders died in the making of this film, so the footage may not be for the faint of heart; don't say we didn't give you advance notice.  As is typical of Bond films, most of the automotive eye candy is of the European variety. The classic Aston Martin DB5 gadget car (which we saw doing some crazy machine-gun donuts in the first trailer) makes yet another appearance, as does what appears to be fourth-generation Maserati Quattroporte. There's even something which might be a car, but also appears to be both some sort of airplane and submersible. Never change, Bond. We love it.  And then there are the Defenders. We've got Defenders speeding down hillsides, Defenders crashing through forests, Defenders flying over Land Cruisers. Yeah, do you like Land Cruisers? There's a Land Cruiser. It even (spoiler alert!) survives relatively unscathed; the same cannot be said for most of the automotive shenanigans we get to see here.  "No Time To Die" was originally slated to debut back in April, but its original release date roughly coincided with the projected peak of early coronavirus infections. Given how important the Bond film franchise's continued success is to MGM (it's virtually the only thing the studio has had going for it for 30 years) and the producers (who only make Bond films), meager box office returns were not an option. The last film, Spectre, pulled in the worldwide gross of $880 million, including $200 million in the United States and $83.5 million in China. The wait is almost over. "No Time to Die" will hit theaters Nov. 25 in the United States.  Related Video:
