Altai Silver on Granite Gray!  Offered only for 1996, this color combo is a unique moment for Discovery in the US!  If you have been looking for a serviced, low mile, wonderful driving Discovery, wait no longer!

Background:
Let me begin with a little background. It was ordered in a uncommon color and option package. To begin with, this is the fantastic SE7 model. The SE7 model and this specific truck were optioned and were graced with Land Rover "Castor" (the factory name) wheels, 7 seats, rear AC, dual sunroofs and few other wonderful trim pieces. Originally first sold in Los Angeles in January of 1996 and serviced by LA dealerships for most of its life, the Rover stayed in sunny SoCal its whole life.

The Condition and Service:

This truck has been ENTHUSIASTICALLY and PROFESSIONALLY maintained and serviced and is a high standard for Rover service!

Let's start on the engine and drivetrain:
This engine has LOW MILES (less than 6,500 a year), only 110,000 miles appear on the odometer and the entire truck shows the same care.  There has been A TON of scheduled and preventive maintenance performed to this truck to keep in near brand new condition.  The engine is very healthy and has loads of smooth power!

-HEAD GASKETS
As part of the preventive service schedule, this truck received brand new OEM head gaskets and OEM headbolts.  It was installed by a master Rover tech with several decades of experience.  The truck runs COOL as can be and has never overheated.

-UPPER AND LOWER ENGINE GASKETS
While being serviced, the valve cover gaskets, valley pan gaskets, valve stem seals, upper intake gaskets and crank seal, all resealed among a few other minor seals.  NONE of these were leaking, but were done in order to keep with the same high regard and care.

-LOWER ENGINE
Great shape, no knocks or mechanical issues!!  As with ALL Rovers there is some minor "moisture" at oil pan seals, power steering etc. Its the British car way.  That said the truck leaves no puddles or drips.

-RADIATOR
The radiator was cleaned and rodded in order to keep maximum flow and keep this beauty nice and cool.  The temp needle NEVER moves past 7/8pm even with the AC on and in traffic.

-WATER PUMP
Brand new OEM replacement pump!

-HOSES
New OEM hoses

-IGNITION
Brand new Champion coppers (the RIGHT plugs) and wires.

-BATTERY
BRAND NEW battery!!

-EMERGENCY BRAKE
Recently adjusted and tight, only a couple notches on the handle holds the truck tight

-TRANSMISSION
The trans was just given all new fluid and shifts great!

-DIFFS and DRIVESHAFTS
New gear oil in the diffs and lubricated u-joints

-SWIVEL BALLS
Fresh grease, serviced and shims

Lets move to the suspension and brakes:

-BRAKES
BRAND NEW OEM brake pads in the front and rear - loads of pad life!  The truck brakes great.  No ABS lights!

-SHOCKS
Great feeling OEM shocks.  They are soft on bumps and tight in corners.  The trucks handles wonderfully!

-STEERING
The steering is tight and has no excess play as you may find in MANY Discoveries.

-4WD SYSTEM
4WD Low and High both work great!

Let's continue to the exterior:

-PAINT
The paint is very nice!  It is a 7 out of 10.  The truck shines up very nice as seen in the pics!  Ther are some minor flaws in the paint though.  There is some clearcoat chipping and fading on the roof and some fading on the doors and trunk.  Its minor fading, but just trying to be thorough!  CLEAN and CLEAR CarFax.  There are few minor dings which are very hard to see in pics and in person and there are some touch ups to the paint on the truck on various parts of the truck.  Remember this is a 18 year old truck, there may be some minor scratches, wear etc, but they are below any expectation level for Discoveries or cars of this year. I try to explain these the trucks the best I can!  The rest of the exterior is in very nice shape!

-TIRES
Great shape OEM Michelin XPC!!!!! These tires are fantastic both on and off-road!

-WHEELS
The wheels are in great shape with no major flaws or curbing.  The Castors look fantastic on the truck!

-GLASS
Not to let a pebble defeat this truck, the windshield is great shape!

-TRAILER HITCH
The Disco has a factory trailer hitch and is wired up and ready to tow.

Onto the cabin:

-SEATS
The Granite Gray seats are fantastic!!!  There is NO tears, NO seams coming apart.  They are incredibly supportive with what feels like zero foam wear. The leather is in very nice shape!  Check out the jump seats!  Impossible to find granite gray jump seats and these are in fantastic shape!

-DOOR PANELS
One of the big things with Discos is the top of the drivers side door panel gets cracked...not this one!  All of the panels are free of dents or major defects.

-HEADLINER
No sags or tears in this headliner - nice shape!!!

-CARPET
Nice carpet in the truck.  Check out the pictures!  Clean, no tears and no major stains!

-POWER SEATS
All power seat functions work perfect!  Hard to find in a Discovery!

-POWER LOCKS
All doors lock and unlock with central locking function and OEM remote!  A rare find!

-POWER WINDOWS
All windows work smooth and quickly!

-RADIO/CD CHANGER
OEM radio works great as well as the OEM CD player!

-AC/HEAT
AC is arctic cold and Heat is earth core hot!  The rear AC/Heat works great too!

-MIRRORS
Power mirrors work perfectly!

-STEERING WHEEL
The leather is very nice, no tears or issues!

-CARGO AREA
Cargo cover in place and operating (usually they are missing!).  Good luck finding a granite gray cargo cover!

-MISCELLANEOUS
The OEM roof rack bars are on the roof and the original jack and ramp are are the hood

The Experience
Driving this Discovery is fantastic. It is Lexus quiet inside, pulls and handles like a sports car and is as comfortable as a Rolls Royce.  Its got all the power it had from the factory and from even a little gas is torquey and responsive. I hope you can tell by my long ad that this truck is a great pre-owned and uncommon color combination Land Rover.  Serviced and ready to enjoy for decades to come, or to further restore its minor cosmetic flaws or to make a camp or off road truck.  It's LOW miles and ready to go another 100k++ miles.  Treat yourself to this truck, that you will not have to dump TONS of money into in this NO RESERVE AUCTION!  There is well over $5k in recent scheduled and preventive service alone in this truck so you are ready to go another 100k+++ of care free miles.  Don't buy an unserviced truck for a little less than spend 2 times as much to get it to this level of service!

Feel free to ask me any questions at all.  Residents around the country I am happy to be flexible for your arranged shipper so that you can get your new truck as soon as possible.   CA residents, registration recently expired, but I will deduct the expired registration cost from the final auction price so you will pay exactly what is fair!

My standard disclaimer/mantra for any car regardless of service or price: The truck is sold with no warranty.  You are buying a used car.  Eventually every car will break, if you find one that doesn't please let me know.  I do my ABSOLUTE BEST to offer only cars that are of TOP NOTCH service.  I am not a dealer, just a guy who loves Rovers (among other cars) and hope to pass along my passion and fervor for these trucks.  That said if ever you encounter an issue I do my best to provide advice, direction or even parts if I have them.  Please understand that it is a used car and will have minor signs of use.  That means please do not expect a showroom brand new truck. Please adjust your expectation level to that of a 110,000 mile truck that however is above average for its year with some minor cosmetic flaws.    Please only bid if you intend to buy.  If you would like to have eBay 3rd party mechanic service check out the truck I more than welcome it.  Please check your local laws and registration procedures before buying.  Please ask any and all questions ahead of purchase.  All sales are final, you are buying as-is, the sky is blue, etc, etc. Sorry to have to give the boring speech.

Please feel free to ask any and all questions!!

Happy Rover-trails!!!!

Jaguar Land Rover to badge vehicles based on horsepower

Wed, Sep 27 2017

Add Jaguar and Land Rover to the list of automakers changing their nomenclature due to the realities of engine downsizing. Spy photos of an unreleased Jaguar F-Type model show a badge reading P380 AWD. The letter P evidently refers to Petrol (British for gasoline), and 380 is the engine's horsepower. According to Auto Express, the entry-level F-Type will be badged P300, indicating the power output of its 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. Land Rover is expected to follow suit with the new badging nomenclature. Diesel models will get a D instead of a P, while electric and hybrid models will get an E badge, along with a number corresponding to total system power. So, expect the I-Pace to sport an E400 badge on its hind end. One question we have, though, is how the disparity between mechanical, metric and imperial horsepower will be dealt with. While such power-specific badges are arguably unnecessary, we expect the trend to proliferate as engines continue to get smaller but turbocharging and electrification keep horsepower climbing. At least JLR's badges are easier to understand than the messy way Audi plans to rename its models or the way BMW completely dismisses actual engine size in its naming convention. Lexus tops JD Power Vehicle Dependability Study again, Buick bests Toyota

Wed, Feb 25 2015

It shouldn't surprise anyone, but Lexus has once again taken the top spot in JD Power's Vehicle Dependability Study. That'd be the Japanese luxury brand's fourth straight year at the top of table. The big news, though, is the rise of Buick. General Motor's near-premium brand beat out Toyota to take second place, with 110 problems per 100 vehicles compared to Toyota's 111 problems. Lexus owners only reported 89 problems per 100 vehicles. Besides Buick's three-position jump, Scion enjoyed a major improvement, jumping 13 positions from 2014. Ram and Mitsubishi made big gains, as well, moving up 11 and 10 positions, respectively. In terms of individual segments, GM and Toyota both excelled, taking home seven segment awards each. The study wasn't good news for all involved, though. A number of popular automakers finished below the industry average of 147 problems per 100 vehicles, including Subaru, (157PP100), Volkswagen (165PP100), Ford/Hyundai (188PP100 each) and Mini (193PP100). The biggest losers (by a tremendous margin, we might add) were Land Rover and Fiat, recording 258 and 273 problems per 100 vehicles. The next closest brand was Jeep, with 197PP100. While the Vehicle Dependability Study uses the same measurement system as the Initial Quality Survey, the two metrics analyze very different things. The VDS looks at problems experienced by original owners of model year 2012 vehicles over the past 12 months, while the oft-quoted IQS focuses on problems in the first 90 days of new-vehicle ownership. Like the IQS, though, the VDS has a rather broad definition of what a problem is. Because of that, a low score from JD Power is no guarantee of extreme unreliability, so much as just poor design. In this most recent study, the two most reported problems focused on Bluetooth connectivity and the voice-command systems. The former leaves plenty of room for user error due to poor design (particularly true of the Bluetooth systems on the low-scoring Fords, Volkswagens and Subarus), while the second is something JD Power has already confirmed as being universally terrible. That makes means that while these studies are important, they shouldn't be taken as gospel when it comes to automotive reliability. Jaguar Land Rover and Cambridge have developed a touchless touchscreen

Thu, Jul 23 2020

Jaguar Land Rover and the University of Cambridge are working on new touchscreen technology that eliminates the need to touch the screen. Counterintuitive, right? It’s called “predictive touch” for now, in part because the system is able to predict what you might be aiming for on the screen.  The video at the top of this post is the best way to understand how users will interact with the tech, but weÂ’ll do some more explaining here. You simply reach out with your finger pointing toward the item on screen that you want to select. ItÂ’ll highlight the item and then select it. HereÂ’s how it works, according to the University of Cambridge: “The technology uses machine intelligence to determine the item the user intends to select on the screen early in the pointing task, speeding up the interaction. It uses a gesture tracker, including vision-based or radio frequency-based sensors, which are increasingly common in consumer electronics; contextual information such as user profile, interface design, environmental conditions; and data available from other sensors, such as an eye-gaze tracker, to infer the userÂ’s intent in real time.” Cambridge claims that lab tests showed a 50 percent reduction in both effort and time by the driver in using the screen, which would theoretically translate to more time looking at the road and less time jabbing away at the screen. If the prediction and machine learning tech is good enough, we could see this resulting in a reduced number of accidental inputs. However, on a certain level it almost sounds more difficult to point at a screen while moving than it does to actually touch a section of that screen. Without using the tech and its supposedly great predictive abilities, we canÂ’t come to any grand conclusions. One comparison you may already be thinking of is BMWÂ’s Gesture Controls. ItÂ’s already been addressed with a subtle diss from Cambridge: “Our technology has numerous advantages over more basic mid-air interaction techniques or conventional gesture recognition, because it supports intuitive interactions with legacy interface designs and doesnÂ’t require any learning on the part of the user,” said Dr Bashar Ahmad of the University of Cambridge. Of course, this tech can be used for much more than just vehicle touchscreen control. Cambridge says it could be integrated into ATMs, airport check-in kiosks, grocery store self checkouts and more.
