Selling for no reserve…

Meet Big Red 1997 Defender 90 NAS soft top #1232 finished in rare Monza Red. Only 180 models were offered in this amazing color.  Highly desirable last year Defender 90 automatic transmission, factory 4.0 V8 and factory AC.  See the actual factory window sticker in the pics below.

Originally delivered from the Land Rover factory to Fields Motors Cars of FL, Inc. in Longwood, FL.  Then sold and shipped to California.  She has lived a great life in Southern and Northern California.  First sold and owned to an IT professional in Glendale, California  until 2005 and subsequently owned San Francisco, California.  Car is currently garaged in San Francisco.

Chassis and body is free from rust or rot. The car was very well maintained throughout its history.  See many pics below. May take a moment to load. Over 100 photos.

First thing you take notice of is Big Reds stance as she stands tall and proud with her suspension lift.  The brand spanking new BF Goodrich MT 33” tires with white letters complement her look. I decided to leave the blue letter dye on temporarily to really emphasize how new they really are. Freshly installed last week.

Secondly the factory Land Rover hardtop is a great add on that is very tough to find these days. Its been part of the reason for keeping the elements out of the interior of this Defender.  Another really useful feature that is a must when off roading is the ARB front bumper with Warn 8k lb high performance winch.  Off road lamps will help light the path should you wish to wheel at night.

One should never go wheeling without the proper accessories and this one has it all. Big Red is equipped with ARB lockers for front and rear and air compressor. ARB rocker switches centrally located on the dash.  Also, there are rock sliders/running boards to help you enter into the cabin.  On board CB radio will help you to communicate with other fellow drivers on your next group ride.

Defenderistas that have been waiting for a clean California rust free Monza Red should be excited to finally meet Big Red.  Her typically rust prone areas are squeaky clean and awesome.

Found it easier to give condition breakdowns below.

Exterior condition:

No rusty bulkhead, No rusty cross member, No rust door bottoms, No rust floors, No rusty tailgate.  No rust on frame.  No rusty hinges. None None None!

Paint is very good but has some oxidation on tops of front fenders- see pics. Easy repairable by doing a re-spray of fenders or installing some metal step plates that would cover the oxidation.  The body panels still have original weld stamps markings.

Factory hardtop has some cracks at seams from removing and re installing. Fiberglass patches were performed to preserve the top and keep water out.

Interior condition:

Original seats are original and in great shape. Rear bench seat very good. Rubber original Land Rover Floor mat is very good.  Just had the armrest recovered with custom padding and stitching for comfortable arm resting :)  New rubber oem Land Rover floor mats.

Mechanical condition:

All work performed Jan 2014 with records.

Complete valve job and resurface head.

New head gasket set and bolts

New hydraulic lifters

New Radiator oem $800

New fuel pump and fuel filter

New high performance tune up kit (plugs, wires, etc)

New thermostat

New water pump

New rear brakes

New tires BFG Mud Terrain T/A 285/75/16

Defects/cosmetic issues:

Odometer reads 32,864 currently. The Carfax history does show that car has a mileage inconsistency.  Many defenders have been plagued with odometer failures and thus causing the odometers stop and required replacement to repair the broken odo.  I believe this to be the case with this Defender as this is what was explained to me by previous owner.

Car has been stored for the past 6 years and not driven. The Carfax report reads the miles on 7/2008 at 31,240.    The odometer is currently operating and functional. Today reads 32,864.

Gear shifter plastic slider trim broken, passenger front door has dent at top of door, AC not working, radio turns on/off intermittently.

Closing

Big Red is a real pleasure to drive. She starts right up and runs excellent and strong. The transmission shifts smooth and crisp. The car is very presentable and would be a perfect car to drive daily or restore to top notch condition. The body is rust free and hard to find that on a Defender 90.

Clean title in hand.  Please email for more info.

Jaguar Land Rover calling in 100k vehicles in three separate campaigns

Sun, Feb 8 2015

Jaguar Land Rover is recalling an estimated 104,114 vehicles in three separate campaigns in cooperation with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The largest of them affects Range Rovers made between April 15, 2005, and September 4, 2012, covering 74,648 units in America from the 2006 to 2012 model years. In those affected vehicles, the front brake hose could rupture, leaking brake fluid and decreasing the capability of the brakes to, you know... stop the vehicle. In a similar but separate recall, subsequent Range Rovers from the 2013 and 2014 model years (manufactured between August 16, 2012, and January 8, 2014) are also being recalled for a brake issue – this time due to the incorrect routing of the brake vacuum hose. The issue could wear down the hose and disable the power assist, again impeding the brakes from properly functioning. This second recall also affects the 2014 Range Rover Sport (specifically those manufactured between May 7, 2013, and January 8, 2014), affecting 24,679 units between both models across the United States. A third smaller recall concerns the 2012-2015 Jaguar XK – namely those built between March 4, 2011, and March 20, 2014. This campaign involves the front side parking lamps, which might switch off after about five minutes, in contravention of federal standards. As such, an estimated 4,787 units are being called in. In all three cases, owners of the affected vehicles can expect to hear from their local dealer to arrange to bring in their wayward British luxury vehicles to have the relevant issue fixed. RECALL Subject : Front Brake Hose(s) may Rupture Report Receipt Date: JAN 27, 2015 NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V039000 Component(s): SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC Potential Number of Units Affected: 74,648 Manufacturer: Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC SUMMARY: Jaguar Land Rover North America, LLC (Land Rover) is recalling certain model year 2006-2012 Land Rover Range Rover vehicles manufactured April 15, 2005, to September 4, 2012. One or both of the flexible front brake hoses may rupture causing loss of brake fluid. CONSEQUENCE: If one or both of the flexible brake hoses fails, the vehicle may require a longer distance to stop, increasing the risk of a crash. REMEDY: Land Rover will notify owners, and dealers will replace the left and right front brake hoses, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin March 13, 2015. Owners may contact Land Rover customer service at 1-800-637-6837.

Jaguar Land Rover says key models in short supply, some have six-month wait lists

Fri, 08 Aug 2014

Care for a bit more proof that the Jaguar Land Rover portfolio of vehicles is the best it's ever been? Well, the Indian-owned pair of brands saw a record year in 2013, while 2014 has seen a 14-percent increase in sales. The crazy thing is, though, is that figure could be even higher, provided the company had the production capacity.
JLR is running a six-month waiting list on two of its most popular models, the Range Rover Sport (above) and Range Rover. According to Mark White, the company's chief technologist for body engineering, the blame can be placed on the paint shop at the company's Solihull factory, in the UK.
"We will probably max out the paint shop before we max out the body shop. Putting the second body shop in has given us the flexibility to ebb and flow the different models that go through there and meet the capacity demands we've got," White told Automotive News. "However, you always hit a bottleneck somewhere. And the paint shop is probably going to be the next biggest obstacle."

Jaguar to sell all-electric cars by 2030, and six electric Land Rovers coming in next five years

Mon, Feb 15 2021

Jaguar is making a big transition to become an electric-only car company. The switchover is meant to kickoff in 2025, and by 2030, Jaguar says 100% of its vehicle sales will be of electric models. Land Rover is taking a similar route, but to a lesser extent. The British off-roading brand says that it will introduce six pure electric variants in the next five years, with eyes on 60% of its sales being of electric models by 2030. Its first all-electric model will arrive in 2024, JLR said. An Automotive News report cites CEO Thierry Bollore, saying he expects "almost zero" production of cars with internal combustion engines by 2039, making that the theoretical end date of Land Rover vehicles with ICEs.  JLR, owned by India's Tata Motors, said on Monday the Jaguar brand will lead the way with a fully-electric model range built on a brand-new electric platform. The Land Rover EVs are to be built on a separate electric vehicle architecture to provide for "two clear unique personalities." The Land Rover EVs are said to be finding homes on both the Modular Longitudinal Architecture (MLA) and Electric Modular Architecture (EMA). Both support combustion engine layouts and full EV layouts, but the latter is said to be more biased toward EVs and to exclusively support "advanced electrified ICE." Both brands will be taking advantage of technology from within the Tata Group (JLR's owners) to make this transition happen. There's limited information on the future of certain models for the time being, but Jaguar did say that its previously-planned XJ replacement will no longer have a place in the brand's lineup. That said, Jaguar says the nameplate might stick around, with the assumption it could be used on an all-new future EV. Additionally, Automotive News reports that Jaguar will transition away from SUV-style vehicles, citing Bollore — the theory being that Land Rover takes over and completely fills that space in the future. We'll be wondering about what will become of the F-Pace and E-Pace. Our biggest Jaguar question concerns the F-Type, though. Will we get a fully electric version of the sports car in the future? Jaguar didn't address it, but we certainly hope so. JLR said that as it electrifies its model range, it will keep all three of its British plants open. But Bollore, who took over as chief executive in September, said the carmaker's Castle Bromwich plant in central England would focus on "non-production" activities in the long term.
