Land Rover Defender Series 3 Santana Diesel 1977 Lhd With Power Steering 1 Owner on 2040-cars
King's Lynn, United Kingdom
LAND ROVER 88 INCH SWB STATION WAGON DIESEL ONE OWNER LHD WITH POWER STEERING.
YES POWER STEERING..UNLIKE A LATER DEFENDER WITH POWER STEERING, THIS IS LIGHT AND POLITE TO DRIVE AND 2 FINGER PARKING AND REVERSING..NEVER THOUGHT I WOULD EVER SAY THAT WITH A LAND ROVER. ONE OWNER FROM NEW, FIRST MANUFACTURED 1977 WHERE LAND ROVER SANTANA SPAIN DATE OF FIRST REGISTRATION 20-05-1977 VIN, E57704093 TYPE 88 DIESEL LEFT HAND DRIVE 2250 4 CYLINDER 4 SPEED MANUAL GEARBOX. bought this on one of our european land rover and classic vehicle buying expeditions recently. with a massive choice of interesting vehicles bought, from a fire engine to several santana i personally decided to drive this vehicle as it had power steering, and in all my 55 years of living...and over 600 land rover owned and sold i have never owned a series land rover with factory option fitted power steering. its american light to drive. unlike the defender with power steering which is assisted power steering... this is full power steering. one owner, SENORITA MARIA JESUS FERNANDEZ POLLEDO who had it for her 33 rd birthday present. and has kept it ever since. was fully restored for her 50th birthday present and has been used ever since using the same garage all its life. not surprisingly i was met at the airport, half a tank of diesel and new fan belt included, along with all its paperwork and history. drive home took ages as was going from place to place looking and buying vehicles. inspected 34 vehicles of all types, and scooters.. and bought 8 of the bunch..3000 miles on 6 days in total.. i drove this vehicle 1644 miles on my own..in my own little slow world with people waving, truck drivers beeping their horns while overtaking...oh they where overtaking not me heheheheheehhe.. speed. on the original small tyres..50 mph. pulls like a train so a much larger tyre profile would give it an extra 10 mph which would be nice on the freeway. around town its same speed as anything else. so after 1644 miles..and driving in uk since..i collected the father in laws big wood trailer today..i can say from an engineers point of view...i know this vehicle inside out. faults as it sits in my workshop i have found. remembering its a 1977 commercial vehicle (the sticker on fender says its commercial in spain) 1. smokes on start up like most diesel do. this could be made better with injectors serviced and reset am sure..(we can quote for this) 2. front propshaft has play in the slider, normal thing..(we can quote for replacement) 3.rear chassis cross member is original. some wear and tear but is not a safety issue and tows trailer well.(we can quote for preventive chassis work) 4.washer jets not working..has original push button type(we can quote for new electric replacement system) 5.exhaust has a split near muffler, can weld up for free (we can quote for new exhaust system) 6.several age related land rover dings and dents (we can quote for all bodywork and paintwork including professional colour change. 7.most santana from spain do not come with winter heater. (we can quote to supply and fit series 3 cab heater and demister system) 8. being commercial in spain,.this santana does not have seat belts fitted (we can quote for seat belts and fitting service) other than that its a peach...to be honest..if i keep it i will weld the exhaust, service injection system and washer jets replacement and i would be very pleased to drive it as my second vehicle winter and summer. santana series where built in spain..in knocked down kit form KCD. it was clear early on improvement could be easily made to these vehicles but the british being stubborn would not listen,,,so santana land rover did their own improvements..like the hard top..built out of GRP RESIN and higher than original..cool in summer warm in winter..and no condensation. roof is approx 3 inches thick. wiring looms much improved. doors locks always work. and larger radiator fitted as standard. a much improved air filter setup from MANN in germany is used(stops the normal diesel engine boom and drone) along with many other small but useful improvements. the dollar is not good against the uk pound at present. not my fault blame the governments. but in the same breath, a lhd series 3 diesel that does 40 mpg with power steering is rarer than hens teeth, and with the knowledge of driving this vehicle all across the continent back to blighty you can buy it with personal insight to its condition. i encourage any inspection. we can provide a professional appraisal service totally independant if required, or will cater for the needs of your chosen inspector, a word of note..use a professional service not some chummy chummy owners club nerd who only wants to talk about their own vehicle. your money. i can ship worldwide. do ask for a quote. you can ship cheaper due to dollar rate. i will still help. or i offer a bespoke menu service so all you do is go to docks and drive away into sunset. i can arrange everything including paying your taxes and duties, customs agent etc. bespoke service starts from 2360 usd. includes everything. sales@v1twn.com 0044 1553 810318 uk times please. payment can be bank transfer- paypal accepted with buyer paying all fees__ or we will deal with something classic or useful.. harley servi car- early mustang- huge station wagon with plastic wood, extended work van..boss hoss....trike...indian motorcycle...do ask..dealing is fun.. also in stock is a fully restored show shine quality british racing green swb santana..but its $27340 usd shipped taxes paid. but it is the best of the best. no loony tunes please. too busy for that. be well. On Jan-25-14 at 08:05:15 PST, seller added the following information: saturday update. raining britain today so no sidecar racing. cold miserable and thats the good points. so...smoke has cleared. it was the fuel metering on the pump. i looked at one of my other santana and the adjustable mixture screw was in a different place. so i reset it ...engine running of course. henry the black lab and myself drove to the coast in this santana about 60 miles..and its fine now. have left it outside to see what happens in morning. but i suggest it will be fine. exhaust has had a pipe attachment fitted where pipe had cracked..so exhaust fine. we can still quote for replacement unit for preventive work..remember parts are much cheaper in uk..makes sense.. two happy bunnies at the coast..me and my dog and a land rover. reserve is double current bid, and its great value after that. its a very pleasing vehicle to own and drive. and with the power steering one forgets its a land rover. if you do have anything interesting..do send some photos.. sales@v1twn.com and its value.. |

Jaguar Land Rover said to favor Europe rather than US for new plant
Sat, Feb 21 2015With its plants running at full tilt, Jaguar Land Rover is in desperate need of additional manufacturing capacity. That's led to reports that the Indian-owned British company was looking to join European, Japanese and Korean automakers in America's southern states, all while it opened new plants in the UK and China. The company even announced it would be building the Land Rover Discovery Sport in Brazil. Now, though, reports are suggesting that JLR is looking at Europe for a new facility, rather than the US, with Automotive News claiming the company's execs are eyeing the lower costs afforded by Austria and Turkey. The report cites the Birmingham Post (UK), the broadsheet that's closest to the company's headquarters. According to the original report, labor costs and wage disputes with unions are ruling out another factory in the UK, while those same disputes with labor outfits may also be souring the automaker on a US facility. "At this stage Europe seems more likely than America. The union pay dispute had a big effect," an unnamed source told the Post. "There is a feeling of alienation that has been left over from the way the pay talks were handled." JLR, meanwhile, offered a solid no comment to the Post, with a spokesperson saying, "No decision has been taken on future manufacturing locations. We will continue to evaluate opportunities to increase our manufacturing footprint in the future." Related Video:
Jaguar Land Rover recalls Takata airbag-equipped cars
Fri, Aug 5 2016In the latest chapter of what feels like the never-ending recall, Jaguar Land Rover announced that it's calling back 2009-2011 Jaguar XFs and 2007-2011 Land Rover Range Rovers for defective Takata airbags on the front passenger side. These Takata airbags have propellant that may have degraded and, if activated, could release metal shrapnel. The company is breaking up the recall into four phases, since currently there are not enough parts to do a full recall. Since the airbags can be more seriously affected by high heat and humidity, the first phase will cover vehicles that were sold and/or registered in regions with high temperatures and humidity. The regions included are as follows: Alabama, California, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, Texas, Puerto Rico, American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, and the US Virgin Islands. Other phases will begin as parts become available, and priority will be given to regions at greater risk of having defective equipment. Jaguar Land Rover encourages owners of affected vehicles to go to www.SaferCar.gov to check if their vehicle is included in the current recall. The first phase includes 54,000 of 108,000 affected vehicles. The company is also notifying owners of the issue, who will eventually get a second notification when parts are available so they can schedule a time to have the airbags replaced. Related Video:
Jaguar Land Rover CEO: Wrong Brexit deal will cost thousands of UK jobs
Tue, Sep 11 2018BIRMINGHAM, England — The wrong Brexit deal could cost tens of thousands of jobs, the boss of Britain's biggest carmaker Jaguar Land Rover warned on Tuesday, saying he had no idea whether his plants would be able to operate after Britain leaves the European Union next year. Ralf Speth also said that the company would not be able to build cars if customs checks meant that the motorway to and from the southern English port of Dover, which is used to transport components, becomes a "car park" due to snarl-ups of people no longer able to move freely among EU countries. Speth made the warning at a conference in Birmingham, central England, speaking shortly before Prime Minister Theresa May, who is battling to have her so-called Chequers Brexit plan accepted by many in her Conservative Party as well as the EU ahead of Britain's departure from the bloc on March 29. "A thousand (jobs were) lost as a result of diesel policy, and those numbers will be counted in the tens of thousands if we do not get the right Brexit deal," warned Speth, referring to redundancies made earlier this year at the firm. "Currently I do not even know if any of our manufacturing facilities in the UK will be able to function on the 30th," he said. The boss of JLR, which built nearly a third of Britain's cars last year, also said long-standing issues around low productivity in Britain could be compounded by a Brexit agreement which made the country less competitive. "It is thousands of pounds cheaper to produce vehicles for instance in Eastern Europe than in Solihull, and what decisions will I be forced to make if Brexit means not merely that costs go up but that we cannot physically build cars on time and on budget in the UK?" he said.Reporting by Costas Pitas
