Defender 110 Tithonus X-military Heavy Duty Virginia Beach on 2040-cars
Virginia Beach, Virginia, United States
This vehicle is in excellent original military condition, and served with the British Army. VIN: SALLDHAC7BA290012 IT IS AN IDEAL HEAVY DUTY UTILITY VEHICLE. It can be configured for the Beach, taking a cooler and surf boards or for Hunting - it has the original rifle racks fitted between the front seats. We are enjoying this vehicle daily at the moment, going to the beach with it, and driving it around Virginia Beach. Everywhere we go people call out to us what a good looking truck it is, and take pictures. It is a unique utility vehicle that is so useable and fun - cooler in the back, surf boards on top, filled full of kids. You suddenly become a cool dad to 13 year old kids again… We are moving away with work so we have to sell :( Email/message me if you want to talk about it. A full
hard top comes with the vehicle, with a full size rear door, and internal roll
cage. The hard top can be taken off and all the doors can be reduced to half
doors. The vehicle also comes with the original military updated trim on the
interior. Conversion to LHD is also possible here in the USA. This British Army Land Rover Defender 110 (1987) was fully
refurbished under the ‘Tithonus’ project. Each Tithonus Land Rover was individually selected and fully
refurbished by the MoD in 2007-2008 as part of the British Army LEP (life
extension program). The project was to
extend the overall service life of the Land-Rovers by 10 years or more. A fully integrated Wolf Roll Cage including front external
and rear internal hoop system provides protection. Front and rear disc
brakes were fitted, with the wheels replaced with heavy duty 16 inch Wolf
rims carrying 7.50R16 Michelin XZL tyres. Updated Exmoor ‘Outlast’ fabric front
seats with headrest and rear side facing folding seats with lap belts provide
seating for six. Front and rear, rubber sound proofing matting was also added. The vehicle is in Virginia Beach with full clear
Virginia title and all customs paperwork appropriately stamped during it's
import process. The Defender has a VA state inspection, is exempt EPA emissions
testing, and as it is older than 25 years old, exempt from DOT regulations as
an antique.
The truck is totally stock military spec and drives
very well. All seals and the drive train have been inspected, and timing belt
changed. It has Land Rover power assisted steering fitted. You can power a compressor from the power points in front or the rear - ideal for beach driving in the Outer Banks. The side locker holds a tow rope to pull Jeeps out of the sand… |

Jaguar Land Rover develops 'transparent' A-pillar and ghost car [w/video]
Mon, Dec 15 2014Jaguar and Land Rover are known for making highly covetable luxury, performance and off-road vehicles, but the British automakers are on a bit of a technology bent lately. Keen to show that it can not only keep up but lead the way when it comes to safety and convenience features, JLR has come out with two more systems to show the way forward. JLR's new 360 Virtual Urban Windscreen system, showcased on an XJ sedan, adopts two novel approaches to getting around town. First up is the Transparent Pillar system, which uses a combination of cameras and display screens embedded in the A, B and C-pillars to make them virtually disappear. Instead of acting as blind spots limiting the driver's visibility, the system uses the roof pillars to display what's going on around the car. If there's an obstacle hidden by the A-pillars, the system shows you the potential hazard as if the pillars weren't there, and brings the obstacle to the driver's attention. If the driver turns his or her head to see a vehicle passing alongside, it projects the vehicle on the inside of the B- or C-pillar. The second technology integrated in the next-generation head-up display is the Follow-Me Ghost Car Navigation system, which takes a page out of the video-game playbook by projecting a "ghost car" on the windscreen that the driver can then "follow" instead of listening to turn-by-turn directions or looking at a map in the dashboard display. The system is similar to what Jaguar recently showcased on an F-Type for track use, but applied for more practical use on city streets and highways. The release of these systems also follows the integrated smart navigation and infotainment system displayed on the Range Rover Sport and the Transparent Bonnet showcased on the Discovery Vision concept. Though these new technologies might not be quite ready for production applications, their impressive sum total goes to show that Jaguar Land Rover is ahead of the curve when it comes to reducing driver distraction and increasing the driver's visibility. Scope out the latest systems in the press release and video below for a closer look of what the future holds for British-style luxury motoring. This content is hosted by a third party. Ferrari exec to lead Jaguar North America
Tue, 06 Aug 2013Jaguar has announced that Jeff Curry will be serving as the brand's new North American vice president, effective August 13. The move is a coup for Jag, which lured Curry away from his previous posting as VP of marketing for Ferrari North America, and is further evidence of just how strong Jaguar's comeback has gotten.
Curry has spent over 20 years in the auto industry, and has worked with Audi, SiriusXM and Land Rover, where he made his start in the industry. His primary responsibilities with Jaguar will cover marketing communications, customer relationship management, and product planning.
Jaguar Land Rover's North American president, Andy Goss, heaped praise on the brand's newest addition saying, "Jeff brings with him extensive automotive and luxury marketing experience, critical expertise in leading-edge technologies and a personal passion for automobiles."
Porsche 911 tops a list of must-have classics, but No. 2 is more of a surprise
Wed, Aug 9 2023No surprise here: In Europe, the Porsche 911 is the most sought-after classic car. Surprise here: Slip-streaming the 911 in the most sought-after chart compiled by the Car & Classic marketplace is the Ford Mustang. Using the Google search engine as a means to pick the winners, as well as the average prices achieved on the “Car and Classic” website, the venerable 911 was tagged 1.45 million times per month according to data stretching back 15 years. The number of 911Â’s sold though the C&C marketplace was 21,141, at an average price of 58,409 pounds, or $74,300. FordÂ’s pony car, still a popular choice for buyers in Europe, placed second on the list with 1.2 million monthly searches. The average sales price over 15 years was 31,107 pounds ($39,570), and the number of older Mustangs sold reached a total of 8,332. Models that also finished among the charted top 10 include the Land Rover Range Rover, the Corvette, the ultra-classic British favorite Jaguar E-Type and the BMW 3 Series. “Whilst a 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera 2.7 RS could set you back the best part of GBP500,000 ($636,000), there are many more affordable models, which bring the average sale price of a 911 on Car & Classic to GBP58,000 ($73,800) – the third highest average selling price of any make and model on the site,” explained Dale Vinten of Car & Classic. According to the site, the Jaguar fetched the highest average selling price: a whopping 89,000 pounds, or $113,000. But thatÂ’s peanuts compared to a Series 1 Roadster in excellent condition, said Vinten. For that, “you can expect to spend up to GBP250,000 ($318,000), A Series 2 or 3 will cost less, as they are not as desirable, but in decent condition you can expect to pay around GBP40,000-GBP50,000. Even a barn find 1969 E-Type Series 2 Roadster can set you back to the tune of GBP33,000 ($42,000)." Launched in 2005, Car & Classic is among EuropeÂ’s most popular classic car clearinghouses. It also runs a stand-alone auction site.
