For sale by owner: 1997 Land Rover Defender 90 Wagon, Coniston Green. It's a very clean and very sweet vehicle. If this is what you are looking for then you know what it is and how rare they are, especially the wagon. There were 1,000 D90 Wagons imported in 1997 and a third of them were the Coniston Green. This thing is a machine that's built like a tank and moves like a mountain goat, there is nowhere it can't go. I purchased this when it had just under 76K miles and have the title in hand. I put the several upgrades that the D90 requires to be truly badass and still maintain the stock integrity of a collector's item. See list the $12K worth of upgrades below:

- Old Man EMU full suspension, springs and shocks.
- True-trac limited slip front differential.
- Detroit locker rear differential.
- Great basin rovers 4.11 ring and pinion, front and rear. (Not a race car but a vast improvement over the very slow stock gearing)
- Great Basin Rovers Heavy duty rear axles.
- Mantec Snorkel and K&N air filter.
- Mantec heavy duty rear tire carrier. (took the weight of spare off of the rear door)
- Expeditionware roof rack double jerry can holder with 2 red Jerry cans and siphon. (Must have as LR put a 15.6 gallon tank on the D90)
- Safari Gard Front winch bumper and lower skid plate.
- Superwinch EP 9.0 Planetary winch with roller fairlead, snatch block included. (Dual batteries installed under driver seat for winch power)
- East Coast Rover rear LED light kit, looks identical to stock, never have to change a bulb again, (Big defender problem solved!).
- Exmoor trim rear side bench seats, (still have the 4 individual seats and will be re-installing them before sale).
- Exmoor trim tan canvas seat covers, front. (Bomber canvas, indestructible)
- New Goodyear MT/R Mud terrains tires, about 6K miles on them, matching spare.
- Hella headlights with H4 bulbs. (Can be replaced with a 100W high beam bulb)
- Hella Black Magic off-road light on front bumper.
- Kenwood stereo/CD, XM capable, Infinity speakers.

It has a new Mobile 1 synthetic oil change last week and diffs were done 3K ago. Brakes were done in the last 5K. I have all receipts and maintenance records during my ownership and the previous owner. I treated her great and she took care of me. In the pics you can see at each door corner the typical rust/oxidation D90s obtain, not integrity issues of the door, outlast you. Feel free to ask any specific Q's you may have….

Brabus takes on Range Rover Sport with Startech widebody kit

Wed, 26 Feb 2014

Of all the tuners this side of AMG, none are as close to Mercedes-Benz as Brabus. After all, when Daimler needed a tuner to spruce up the Smart car, it was Brabus that it turned to. But Brabus tunes vehicles other than Mercedes - it just uses, let's call it, a pen name. It brands them Startech, like the widebody kit it's developed for the new Range Rover Sport and will present at the Geneva Motor Show next week.
The modifications center around the carbon fiber body panels Brabus (excuse us, Startech) has developed for the British sport-ute that give it over two inches of added width. The wider fender flares encompass 23-inch wheels that are forged, ceramic-coated, skinned with low-profile rubber and fitted to a lowered suspension. The front and rear bumpers have been redone in plastic and can be fitted with or without the wider fenders, and there's a three-piece roof spoiler at the back.
Startech is also offering an upgrade for the 3.0-liter twin-turbo-diesel V6 that squeezes out an extra 31 horsepower and 59 pound-feet of torque for a total of 323 hp and 501 lb-ft, dropping the 0-62 time from 7.2 seconds to 6.9. The German tuner also has a wide array of interior modifications on offer, details of which you can read about in the press release below and scope out in the high-resolution image gallery above.

Why Land Rover's reluctant to show concepts: Chinese clones

Thu, Oct 19 2017

While the Chinese auto industry continues to grow and expand with new and original products, a number of automakers still refuse to play by the rules. Rather than coming up with original designs, these automakers shamelessly copy designs from other automakers, slapping their badge on the front as if it were an original product. According to Auto Express, Land Rover has grown tired of dealing with these frauds to the point that it's essentially stopped showing concept cars in order to stave off these clones. One of the most notable and brazen examples of these Chinese copycats is the LandWind X7. While that car looks like an obvious ripoff of the Range Rover Evoque, complaints by Jaguar Land Rover were dismissed, and the X7 hit the market for about a third of the price of the Evoque. Further efforts by JLR have done nothing to halt or change the car's production. It seems Chinese authorities are more interested in protecting the home team than upholding copyright laws. Land Rover design boss Gerry McGovern said the automaker was "wary of showing new concepts" because they just give these competitors time to work up a copy. Land Rover's latest model, the Velar, debuted in Geneva in production form. Skipping concepts may not stop competitors from making copies, but it does give Land Rover a huge head start when it comes to production. Tesla layoffs, new safety mandates, and a bumper crop of V12s! | Autoblog Podcast #830

Fri, May 3 2024

In this episode of the Autoblog Podcast, Editor-in-Chief Greg Migliore is joined by Associate Editor Byron Hurd for a gasoline-powered installment. They lead off by diving into the Tesla layoff news from this week before leaving electrification behind for a bit to talk about not one, but two production V12 unveilings. This isn't a drill, folks; Aston Martin and Ferrari are both committed. After that, they touch on the U.S. government announcement that it would mandate automatic emergency braking systems starting in 2029. They finish up the news segment with a chat about Fisker. Poor, poor Fisker. From there, it's on to the road tests. The Autoblog team has been testing out some EVs and both Byron and Greg had some thoughts to share, plus we get a final update from Byron on the long-term Subaru WRX and some notes from both drivers about the updated Range Rover Evoque.  Send us your questions for the Mailbag and Spend My Money at: Podcast@Autoblog.com.
