1997 Land Rover Defender 90 #015 on 2040-cars
Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, United States
For sale is my 1997 Land Rover Defender 90 Hard Top #015. Always dealer serviced and maintained, this truck has had no expense spared. In preparation for sale my truck recently underwent a full inspection at a Land Rover dealership for anything that needed attention. Over $8,000 in service was just preformed last week to ensure that any known issues were fixed. Recently this included all new rotors, calipers, brake pads, bushings, exhaust, engine tune-up, wheel balancing, fluids changed and rust inhibitor undercoating. Service has always been done before the scheduled maintenance date and the vehicle has been worked on only be Land Rover certified technicians.
This is a summer vehicle and has always been stored indoors for winter. Unfortunately, this is also the reason for selling. I recently purchased a '67 Series IIA and will be driving that as my summer cruiser. This Defender is too nice to be out on the roads during a Michigan winter, especially with all the salt and potholes. I purchased this truck approximately two years ago from a Land Rover dealership in Dallas, TX. The truck was bone stock then and purchased with 64,000 miles on the clock. Over these two summers I've put almost 16,000 miles on her and upgraded many things including: Mantec bumper with 12k lb. winch (never used, still needs to be wired), Hella Rallye 3000 lights, skid plate, Boost alloy wheels powdercoated black, Safety Devices roof rack, Pioneer Nav system with reverse camera and custom MUD UK dash, and of course little bits like heated seats, upgraded sound system, USB charger, mud flaps, side steps rear dog cage, etc... Included in the sale are the 5 original NAS rims that came with the vehicle. They are in near perfect shape however I didn't prefer the look. Seats are in perfect shape with no rips or tears. There is a small dent on the passenger side wing from the ONE time I took it "off road". Jeesh! Also some very slight rust starting to appear under the air intake bonnet flap. Was planning on having both of these issues addressed as soon as warmer weather approached. I'm sure that I am forgetting a lot of things about the truck and will try and answer any questions possible. I tried to keep this truck as authentic "Land Rover-ish" looking as possible. The roof rack took over 6 months to find as did the Boost alloy wheels. The front winch bumper is Mantec, however it resembles the stock Defender bumper very well. New old stock Hella Rallye 3000 fog lights were found and installed with a genuine Defender operation switch. For summer camping I have a Tepui roof top tent that I've used in conduction with this truck. It's only been used a few times and includes the additional annex and awning. Makes for an amazing camping setup. I'll attach pictures of it installed on my GTI for reference. This tent and all of its components will be included in the sale for the "buy it now" price. I really really hate to see this truck go and have struggled with the thought of selling it for a while. It doesn't get the use that it should and as I have a new family member (the '67 IIA), I just don't have the time for two. I will be driving this truck for a little while before I say goodbye, so mileage might change slightly. REVISED: Speedo is in MPH and odo is in KM. Entries in title or service records (i.e. CARFAX or Land Rover service database) will reflect the odo number in miles when its actually kilometers, so you'll need to convert for true mileage. |

Land Rover could build a baby Defender on a platform sourced from BMW
Mon, Aug 12 2019The collaboration between BMW and Jaguar-Land Rover started out small, it was originally limited to motors for electric cars, but it might not stay that way for long. The Tata-owned British sister companies will allegedly rummage through Munich's sizable parts bin to build nearly half a dozen cars scheduled to come out during the 2020s. According to a report by British magazine Autocar, Jaguar has started designing two small cars that will join its growing family of Pace-badged soft-roaders. They'll be new additions to the firm's portfolio, not replacements for existing cars. One will be a regular crossover, while the other will be a swoopier, form-over-function four-door model ostensibly marketed as a coupe. Both will slot at the very bottom of the Jaguar portfolio, below the already pretty small E-Pace, in a growing market segment where the competition is fierce, and profit margins are thinner than an i3's tires. Here's where BMW apparently comes in. Instead of developing a platform from scratch, the two crossovers could ride on the hybrid-ready, front-wheel drive FAAR architecture found under the third-generation 1 Series hatchback and the upcoming 2 Series Gran Coupe. If we believe an earlier report claiming Jaguar and BMW will also share engines, most of the hardware found under the sheet metal will have German genes. All-wheel drive will certainly be available, and it could also come from BMW. The same platform -- and, presumably, the same engines -- would provide the basis for a Land Rover-badged model positioned in the same segment. Autocar learned it will be to the next-generation Defender (pictured) what the Mercedes-Benz GLB is to the G-Class. Some key design cues will carry over, but the two models will share absolutely nothing under the sheet metal. The soft-roader could resurrect the Freelander nameplate when it goes on sale during the 2020s. Looking even further ahead, the front-wheel-drive platform the next Mini Countryman and X1 will utilize could find its way under the replacements for the next Range Rover Evoque and Discovery Sport. These plans could very well change; the Evoque and the Disco Sport barely entered their second generation, so they're not due for a replacement until the second half of the coming decade. While neither company has confirmed or denied the report, the partnership makes sense from a business standpoint.
Fully Charged rolls into season 3 with VW XL1 and electric Land Rover
Sat, Jan 18 2014It's been some time since last we visited with British actor and electric car proponent Robert Llewellyn and his web-based video series, Fully Charged. The show, now sponsored by Ecotricity, has started rolling out its third season and now has available two episodes featuring a pair of truly unique – and diametrically opposed – vehicles. The first installment starts with some interesting numbers involving the host's Nissan Leaf and its energy consumption over the past 36,000 miles, but soon moves on to the ultra-aero, ultra-expensive Volkswagen XL1. Now, if you've already seen the footage from our own XL1 first drive review, there's not a lot new here except, perhaps, more enthusiasm and a better listen of the two-cylinder diesel kicking in. Still, it's a great reminder of a truly unique vehicle and we enjoyed the segment. The second episode features an electrified Land Rover Defender 110. This is a vehicle you'd more likely see on an African safari than at the local mall. It's not a home-built conversion either, but rather, something the company has put together "for the boffins to create the ideas and see if they work." Boasting a 50-mile range, it's certainly something we like to take on an off-road adventure. Llewellyn is given the chance to do just that, and though the course is somewhat milder than what we might attempt, it does feature a stretch of river and some rough, rutted tracks. You can watch both episodes by scrolling below let us know which vehicle you'd prefer in the comments. This writer is going with the four-wheel-drive. This content is hosted by a third party.
