Rare 1994 NAS Land Rover Defender 90 Soft Top
Purchased this 1994 Defender 90, #902 in May 2001 in Salt Lake City with 41,670 miles. Over the last 15 years,
usage has been light as today there are only 80,267 miles. It has been used as a "mountain town convertible,"
driven primarily in the summer and almost exclusively on paved and gravel roads. The vehicle has been serviced as
needed by the same mechanic over the last 15 years. The Land Rover is in excellent condition for a 22-year-old
vehicle and runs very well. The Defender has been stored in a garage and sports a five-speed manual transmission,
high/low four wheel drive, waterproof seats, roll cage, rear lamp cages, receiver hitch, and is really fun to
drive. Major maintenance over the last several years has included: new rear shocks in 2007, new Firestone
Destination A/T LT 265/75R16 tires at 63,348 miles, front brakes in 2011, fuel pump in 2013, fuel temp sensor and
ignition module in 2014 and, just recently, a new starter, crank sensor, and plugs. While it runs great, of late
it has exhibited a reluctance to start on occasion; this has been the source of the recent work. It has been
thoroughly inspected, and my experience is if it does not start, let it sit a bit and try again. In the last 37
attempts to start since the recent work, it has started 35 times. It runs great. A Sony AM/FM/Cassette Player is
located in the center console that also offers storage and drink holders.
The Defender carries a clean Carfax Report with no reported bodywork. Under my ownership the Defender is accident
free, all original parts other than maintenance described above and has never been smoked in. The Land Rover
Defender 90 is a bona fide icon, only imported into the US from 1994 until 1997, and now production in Europe has
ended. A true collectors item.
Owners notes:
The seat back adjustment levers have never worked well as long as I have owned the Defender. The forward back
adjustments work fine.
The dashboard gauge lights are very dim and can be hard to see instruments at night; the gauge brightness
adjustment does not work and never has.
The plastic casing on the rear seat seat belt receptors are cracked and taped together (see photo) but are
functional.
The body is in excellent condition; there is a small dent in front of the passenger door (see photo) and a few
scratches.
The label sticker for the airflow control, hot/cold, floor/defrost is missing (see photo).
There is some rust on the driver and passenger door hinges and spare tire carrier; it does not impede their
function (see photo).
There is also some rust under the driver floor mat (see photo).
The Defender burns a quart of oil regularly and drips a bit (fairly typical).
The soft top is the original and was left off most summers (vehicle was kept in a garage). It is very difficult to
attach all the snaps (I usually do not), and there are tears in two of the plastic windows that are taped (see
photos).
The rubber mat in the rear cargo area was replaced a couple of years ago, but has developed a tear at the right
wheel well (see photo).
Floor mats are new a couple years back.
Other:
A receiver hitch mounted bike rack is available if the buyer would like it. It was a special order bike rack to
accommodate clearing the spare tire. It has been well used and is included free with the Defender.

Thieves stole $3.7 million worth of Jaguar Land Rover engines

This past Tuesday was not a good one for Jaguar Land Rover. According to British news source Birmingham Mail, just over $3.7 million worth of engines were stolen from the company's factory in Solihull, England. Reportedly, the thieves drove up to the facility in a stolen semi-truck, found a trailer full of engines, hooked it up, and drove off. The thieves did this twice in one night, with the same truck, and got the first trailer in just six minutes. Perhaps more shocking is that Birmingham Mail reports this is the second time a theft of this type has occurred at the facility. The previous time happened in almost exactly the same way, but the engines taken were valued at just over $1.2 million, and five people were convicted of the crime. Currently, local police are looking for the latest suspects and the engines. The trailers were found, but were empty. We got in touch with a Jaguar representative who provided us the company's official statement: "We can confirm that we are working closely with West Midlands Police to investigate the theft of engines from the Solihull manufacturing plant. A reward is on offer to anyone who has information which leads to the successful recovery of these engines. It would be inappropriate for us to make any further comment whilst this investigation is ongoing." This was the only statement he would provide, and didn't provide answers as to what engines were stolen and if there would be any impact on manufacturing or vehicle deliveries. But if you're in the UK, and you've got a tip, let the cops know. Jaguar Land Rover is going to call itself 'JLR' and spin off brands

Embracing the current popular philosophy that less is more, the executives at Jaguar Land Rover plan to officially rename their company “JLRÂ” and to create a new Â“house of brandsÂ” that will emphasize name equity and refocus its vehicle offerings. In simple terms, the British-based, India-owned company will split into four separate brands: Range Rover, Discovery, Defender and Jaguar. While this shift may appear to be essentially a function of marketing and dealership bookkeeping, the over-arching reason is to give some of the brands more visibility. Details of the plan, which would reconfigure showrooms in Britain into discrete brand footprints, were discussed this week at a presentation by JLR CEO Adrian Mardell. Â“The reality is Range Rover is a brandÂ and so is Defender,Â’Â” said creative officer Gerry McGovern. Â“Customers say they own a Range Rover. In luxury, you need absolute clarity. Land Rover Range Rover SV Autobiography doesnÂ’t give it. We love Land Rover, but there isn't as much equity as Range Rover, and Defender is increasing massively.Â”Â Underlying the effort is plans to reinvent Jaguar as an electric-only luxury brand, Mardell said that this was Â“unfinished businessÂ” for him since he joined Jaguar 32 years ago. Â“The Jaguar of 32 years ago is where weÂ’re going back toÂ and the right place for us to be." He further acknowledged that JLR had been Â“quietÂ” recently in the face of semiconductor chip shortages, but allowed that that situation was easing at his company.

Jaguar models could rev with inline-six engines again

Rumors are swirling once again that Jaguar might return an inline-six engine to its lineup. Autocar claims Jaguar Land Rover will use the modular Ingenium engine family to create a 3.0-liter straight-six. The new motor will replace the automaker's current V6. As with the Ingenium 2.0-liter four-cylinder, JLR will likely offer the powerplant in gasoline- and diesel-fueled versions. A rumor in May 2015 also suggested JLR would create an Ingenium-based turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six and a 1.5-liter three-cylinder unit. According to Autocar, the engine bay in the XE, XF, and F-Pace can already fit the longer engine. The automaker isn't talking, though. "We can't comment on future product one way or another," company spokesperson Nathan Hoyt told Autoblog. Jaguar built much of its performance legacy with straight-six-powered vehicles. While the C-Type and D-Type were winning races with the engine layout, practically every Jaguar production model used them as well. Today, straight-sixes are less common. BMW continues to use them, and Mercedes-Benz reportedly also plans to offer one soon. While Autocar's report is still just a rumor, the move to an inline-six could be advantageous for JLR. For example, using an Ingenium-derived design could simplify manufacturing by allowing the company to build the powerplant in one factory alongside the 2.0-liter version. Returning to a design with such an important heritage for Jaguar would also make life easy for the brand's marketing team because it could link the new engine to past racing glory. Related Video:
