1988 Diesel Defender Is Great Condition. Drives Like A Much Newer Vehicle on 2040-cars
Collingwood, Ontario, Canada
Imported from Italy just last year so she spent her whole life in a dry and salt-free climate. Clean ownership Please note that this is a 1988 Land Rover...entering the correct age was not possible on the eBay site. Chassis is excellent. Krown rust proofed pre-winter. Body is excellent..with the odd little 'ding'. Paint is not new but is a very fitting look to a truck such as this. 2.5 litre turbo diesel is in excellent shape. Engine was replaced several years ago and was re-furbished several months ago with new timing belt, new interjectors, new lift pump, new injector pump, valves re-done, etc, etc. Mud centre console added to accommodate stereo, gauges and switches. (waterproof marine stereo connected to iPod...full iPod functionality is on the stereo itself...brilliant unit and easy to navigate while on the road) All new this year. New speakers. Added a new VDO turbo gauge and VDO voltmeter Several extra extra switches for any future add-ons. New antenna for radio Heavy duty steering guard added this year. Driving lights added this year. New rear ball joint and fulcrum. New heavy duty shocks and steering damper New pitman arm New rod ends Fresh brake job New parking brake shoes New Goodyear Duratrac tires....very beefy..can tackle anything. Replaced any questionable wiring New cubby box between the seats. New seat belts. New Snorkel/raised air intake Heavy duty dog/cargo guard between driving compartment and cargo area. Removable if desired. New heavy duty/sound dampening front mats...the good ones. New shifter knobs. New hinges on driver door. well..the list goes on. All of the work was done by a talented and experienced Land Rover mechanic NOT simply by a Land Rover enthusiast. The windscreen has a small crack in the upper right corner but I have a new windscreen that I will include. Happy to include a new paint job in the colour of your choice for an added $2000. This Land Rover 90 is in fabulous condition as any test drive will show. I put the work into it so that it would be a reliable daily driver for decades to come. The only reason for selling is that I have decided to get a bigger one...to accommodate the family. Look around at all of the other 90s on the market and then come and look at this one. This is not a project and it is priced well below what other trucks in this condition are being listed for. You are welcome to chat with my mechanic if you would like his take on the vehicle. This truck is ready to drive for many years to come. Recent survey available to interested buyers. I apologize for the poor quality photos..shot on my iPhone. Please note the VIN# on the add is incorrect as eBay does not recognize the European VIN that the truck carries. The title however is clean so no problem with transfer of ownership. |

Jaguar-Land Rover rules out downsizing into new segments
Sun, Nov 17 2019Jaguar-Land Rover (JLR) will continue expanding its portfolio of models during the 2020s, but the group confirmed it won't chase volume by branching out into smaller segments like its German rivals. The two brands will instead seek partnerships to generate economies of scale. "We should not and will not drive down into segments just to get economies of scale," said Felix Brautigam, Jaguar-Land Rover's chief commercial officer, in an interview with Autocar. He added the second-generation Range Rover Evoque (pictured) released in 2018 is already a relatively small car. It stretches 172 inches from bumper to bumper and 75 inches from side to side, so it's approximately 4 inches longer and 5 inches wider than the eighth-generation Volkswagen Golf. It's about 8 inches taller than the German hatchback, however. While that's small by luxury car standards, Mercedes-Benz and BMW respectively went smaller with their Smart and Mini brands. Audi doesn't have an entry-level sub-brand, but it doesn't need to because it's part of the gigantic Volkswagen Group. Japanese luxury firms like Lexus and Infiniti are also part of bigger companies. Brautigam's comments bury numerous rumors. They confirm Jaguar won't take on the Mercedes-Benz A-Class, the Audi A3, and the BMW 1 Series with a model positioned below the XE, which competes against the C-Class, the A4, and the 3 Series, respectively. They also douse cold water on the born-again Freelander (which ultimately morphed into the LR2 in America), which Land Rover was allegedly developing to slot directly below the aforementioned Evoque. Ironically, JLR might soon have access to platforms capable of underpinning smaller vehicles. Parent company Tata Motors is actively looking for an outside company to link arms with the British brands, according to a separate report. Officials reportedly approached BMW -- which used to own Land Rover, and announced a joint-venture with the group in 2019 -- and Geely, the Chinese giant whose portfolio of brands includes Volvo, Polestar, Lotus, Proton, London Taxi Company, Terrafugia, and half of Smart, plus a sizeable, nearly-10% stake in Mercedes-Benz parent company Daimler. Geely told Bloomberg it hasn't heard from Tata or JLR. BMW and Tata remained silent. While a partnership with someone looks likely considering the significant hurdles faced by JLR, its parent company has categorically ruled out selling the duo it purchased from Ford for $2.3 billion in 2008.
Jaguar Land Rover parent Tata posts a loss over coronavirus
Tue, Oct 27 2020BENGALURU — India's Tata Motors posted a wider loss for the September quarter on Tuesday as the COVID-19 pandemic sapped demand in several of its key markets. The global health crisis has hammered sales for automakers worldwide and compounded problems for Tata Motors, which was trying to improve Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) sales amid weak demand and uncertainty related to Brexit. Tata Motors reported a consolidated net loss of 3.14 billion rupees ($42.47 million) for the second quarter ended Sept. 30, compared with a loss of 2.17 billion rupees a year earlier. Retail unit sales at luxury car unit JLR, which rakes in most of the company's revenue, was down nearly 12% for the reported quarter. Tata Motors, however, said it expects JLR sales to gradually improve. "Despite concerns around the risk of a second wave of (COVID-19) infections ... we expect a gradual recovery of demand and supply in the coming months," the carmaker said in an exchange filing. Total revenue from operations fell 18.2% to 535.3 billion rupees. Tata Motors said it was committed to achieving near-zero net automotive debt in the coming years. Shares of Tata Motors ended 1.46% higher on Tuesday while the broader Mumbai market settled 1.03% higher.
Jaguar opens new engine plant in the UK
Thu, 30 Oct 2014The heads of Jaguar Land Rover are having a busy couple of weeks opening factories. Just days after inaugurating the company's first overseas plant in China, the automaker's new Engine Manufacturing Center in the UK is being inaugurated, as well. The plant near Wolverhampton, England, marks the first time in decades that JLR is building its own powerplants in-house. Further signaling the importance of this launch for the business, Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip were on hand and even tweeted about it.
The factory's first major project is to build JLR's latest Ingenium four-cylinders, starting with the 2.0-liter diesel version. "Our new Engine Manufacturing Centre is an important step in advancing the competitiveness and capability of the UK automotive sector. The production of in-house engines will support the expansion of the UK supply chain providing critical mass for inward investment," said Trevor Leeks, plant operations director in the automaker's announcement.
Opening the doors to the Engine Manufacturing Center has been years in the making for JLR. The plant was first announced in September 2011 and broke ground in June 2012. Building it cost the company 500 million pounds ($800 million) and created 1,400 new jobs. Of course, being a state-of-the-art factory, considerations were made to make the place as energy efficient as possible. That meant installing the UK's largest solar array with 21,000 panels to produce about 30 percent of the site's electricity needs.
