1987 Land Rover Defender D 110 County Station Wagon Suv 9 Seater on 2040-cars

Year:1980 Mileage:190000
Location:

Cape May, New Jersey, United States

Cape May, New Jersey, United States

I am saying it is a 1980 since eBay would not recognize a British VIN
number, but it is a 1987.
This is a 1987 Authentic Land Rover Defender D110 County Station Wagon,
doesn't get any more British than a White Landie D110, compare to one of the 550 imported in 1993 as NAS.
  All British (MG,
Rover, Coopers) cars leak, rust and smoke and this one is in pretty good
shape given its age. It has rust, it smokes a bit at start up, it stinks and
it leaks a wee little bit (power steering suspected), but not as bad as other European cars I have had.
It leaks rain on the left/passenger side, deep winter floor mats catch it and empty it
out after rain event. So I bought it on UK eBay. I drove my wife's German
specifications D110 to England and "traded" for this one. We call him the "Governor".  Drove it back to
Germany, put new tires and rims on it and begged previous owner to get some
used parts for it. He will ship a replacement transmission for it soon and
comes with the sale price, should current tranny fail you have a spare. It
started out green according to its V5, title documents; previous owner was
in London before guy/dealer I bought from. Shipped it privately to
Baltimore, had it trailered to Virginia where it is awaiting customs and
port documents to title and get tags for it in Virginia. It has an Ex-Tec
diamond plate roof rack on it from my wife's 2002 Defender worth about
$1,500. I got a lot invested in getting this car out of UK then Germany and
shipped to USA, so please take into consideration all of the hassle of getting
it to USA, worth about $3,500 in shipping and transportation costs alone.
Land Rovers are like Ford F150 to Brits, mostly farmers own them, and some
don't even get plates for them and just drive them on their farms. They have
mild winters so salt on roads is not very common. Farmers are great
mechanics; they have to be in order to keep their machines working. But it's
hard to find a D110 which hasn't had a Discovery turbo diesel dropped in it
which can be imported to USA as older than 25 year old antique. If you own a
business like surf shop or auto detailing or kitchen cabinet installer and
want to draw attention to your business this is the truck for you. It is a
man cave on wheels. Not recommended for little women, it is a big vehicle
and steering it is like a semi truck. Rides great on the interstates though, not bouncey like a D90 or Jeep. Tires
will have to be professionally balanced since tire shop did not have a
machine with large center for the bigger rims. So do some browsing of 1993
Land Rover Defender D110 NAS which they only made 550 of that one year. All
White except Ralph Lauren's black, 50 went to Canada. 500 left. If you can
get a low mileage one in this shape it will cost you about $30,000. If you
had that NAS professionally restored it would cost you $100,000 and a 3 year
wait. If you find a low mileage NAS in great shape expect to pay $80,000 to $150,000.
This is here,in Virginia being cleaned up and will be driven to New Jersey shortly, and ready to be sold (once shipping company coughs
up the documents). I would paint it but leave that to you the buyer to start
customizing it to your taste.  White, Black, Orange or Yellow would really amke it stand out.

Kahn and Evanta team up for hot-rod Defender, custom Barchetta

Thu, Jul 10 2014

If you're familiar with the work of Afzal Kahn, it's probably for his tuned Range Rovers. And if you live in London, you may have seen his Bugatti Veyron with the F1 license plate. But the British tuner and self-styled "automotive fashion designer" is now embarking on a far more ambitious project. Kahn is teaming up with Ant Anstead of Evanta fame – responsible for rebodying Aston Martin DB7s to look like DB4 GTs and that full-scale DBR1/2 model kit – on a new outfit called Ant-Kahn. Far more than a tuning endeavor, Ant-Kahm is setting about creating truly unique (and uniquely British) automobiles. Their first project is called the Flying Huntsman, a long-nose Land Rover Defender that we imagine will emerge as something like a British take on the 1998 Jeepster concept crossed with something Icon might concoct. It'll pack a 6.2-liter GM LS3 V8 producing 550 horsepower, mated to a push-button six-speed automatic transmission, mounted close to the bulkhead with over 15 inches of extra bodywork and set to be unveiled within the coming months. Their second collaboration is set to yield the Evanta Barchetta previewed by rendering above. "Inspired by the design language of 1950s motorsport," the Barchetta pays homage to classic British and Italian roadsters. It's being built around a tubular frame with handcrafted composite Kevlar bodywork and powered by that same LS3 tuned to 450 hp but in a much lighter form than the Flying Hunstman. Only 20 examples will be made after its debut at the Goodwood Revival come September. An Aston Martin project codenamed WB12 is also in the works, painting a picture of an ambitious startup backed by two experienced operators whose projects we're looking forward to seeing come to fruition. Ant-Kahn – The birth of a groundbreaking collaboration between two leading figures in the UK automotive industry. Ant-Kahn is a collaborative partnership between Afzal Kahn - innovative automotive fashion designer and founder of the Kahn group of companies, and Ant Anstead, founder of expert vehicle manufacturer Evanta, and star of Channel 4's "For The Love of Cars". Working together under the Ant-Kahn banner, they will lead a resurgence in British specialist vehicle manufacture, with a number of projects already underway. Their focus is on luxury and quality, using modern prototyping and manufacturing technology, while maintaining the attention to details associated with traditional coach building.

Jaguar Land Rover tech tracks brainwaves, heart, lungs

Wed, Jun 17 2015

Jaguar Land Rover has been on a bit of a tech kick lately, and its latest is called Mind Sense, which uses biometric sensors to monitor and enhance the driver's level of alertness. Jaguar is installing brainwave sensors adapted from NASA into the steering wheel of an XJ sedan, along with medical-grade heart and respiratory sensors in the seat. Together, the sensors would determine if the driver is focused on the road, dozing off, merely thinking about something else, or if the driver's stress level suddenly peaks. The system would enable the vehicle to better prepare for an emergency, or for a future autonomous vehicle to hand off control to a better-prepared driver where needed. At the same time, JLR is also working on an enhanced infotainment system designed to reduce the amount of time the driver's hands are off the wheel and their eyes are off the road. The system determines which control they're reaching for on the display and engages it while their finger is still in mid-air, deploying an ultrasonic pulse to provide artificial haptic feedback without actually having to touch anything. Finally, a new haptic accelerator pedal is under development that could alert the driver to respond to an impending situation without overloading the senses with chimes and beeps. These latest developments follow the demonstration of a remote-control system installed on a Range Rover Sport, and follow in a long line of new technologies under development by the British automaker. JAGUAR LAND ROVER ROAD SAFETY RESEARCH INCLUDES BRAIN WAVE MONITORING TO IMPROVE DRIVER CONCENTRATION AND REDUCE ACCIDENTS - Jaguar Land Rover's pioneering Mind Sense project is researching measuring brainwaves to monitor driver concentration in the car - Researchers are developing a Wellness Seat in a Jaguar XJ which analyses the driver's heart rate and breathing to monitor driver health and stress - Touchscreens that predict which button you want to press as the user's fingers are in mid-air - to minimise time spent with eyes off the road - Jaguar Land Rover researchers use new haptic accelerator pedal to communicate hazards to the driver Whitley, UK: Jaguar Land Rover has revealed a range of new road safety technology research projects that are being developed to reduce the number of accidents caused by drivers who are stressed, distracted and not concentrating on the road ahead.
