1985 Defender 110 County Station Wagon, RHD, 2.5 liter four cylinder diesel, five speed LT77 gearbox, Marine Blue with black vinyl interior.  This vehicle was used by the National Health Service in the UK as an ambulance support vehicle, and was mainly garage kept and maintained to a strict schedule.  This County Station Wagon is just about completely original:  Original Marine Blue paint is in remarkable condition, still shiny and bright, and the galvanized cappings are in very good condition.   Body panels are just about perfectly straight, and the doors are tight and close correctly.   Window cranks work correctly, and all the glass is in good condition with no cracks.  Chassis and bulkhead are original, and in excellent condition for the year, there is no bulkhead rot around the air vents, hinges, the kick panels are super solid.   Outriggers, rear crossmember, front horns are all very solid, with a lot of the original chassis paint still showing.   Genuine 12 seater, with the 3-3-6 seating position, with the 2 rearmost inward facing jump seats.   Headliner is in very good condition, as are the black vinyl seats.   Dash is also just about perfect, with some very small holes where the CB radio equipment was attached.     Engine is the original 2.5 liter four cylinder diesel.  Fires up first shot with a few seconds of glow plug, and idles correctly, with no excess smoke.    Steering is tight, and does not wander.   The LT77 five speed gearbox works perfectly, with no excessive noise, whine, grinding or jumping out of gear.    Clutch works correctly, with no judder or slip.     Bonnet mounted spare tire will be fitted prior to delivery.    Fitted with Michelin XZL tires with about 40% tread left.   Electrical system works correctly, e.g. gauges, lights, horn, etc.    Original, raised letter rear number plate included in sale.  Original, raised letter front number plate not shown but also included in sale.

There are not many numbers matching, original condition 110's out there like this, it is a superb example of a well-maintained vehicle that will provide many more years of dependable use.    This is NOT one a re-vinned "Franken-Rover" cobbled together from different Roves, or a newer model with an old VIN plate.   The actual age and originality of this Land Rover cannot be questioned.    You will not have to worry about whether or not an insurance claim will be denied because of a discrepancy in the model year if you get into an accident.   You will not have to worry about US Customs taking your vehicle.   It has a clear Pennsylvania title.    If you have any questions about this vehicle, please ask me before bidding, and please be aware that this is not a restored, galvanized frame, fresh paint, new Puma 2.4 liter Land Rover.  While it has been extremely well maintained and is in amazing condition for its age, it still has all of the hallmarks of a used vehicle:  small rock chips from highway use, minor galvanic corrosion on the aluminum along the lower sills, some rust on the mudflap brackets, side steps, some scratches in the paintwork, some small tears on back of one of the middle seats, and other minor wear that is to be expected.    I received negative feedback from a previous sale of a Land Rover 110, where the buyer expected a restored vehicle for the price of a solid, mechanically and structurally sound Land Rover in ORIGINAL condition that had fair wear and tear.   Be aware that what you are bidding on is NOT NEW, NOT RESTORED, and PLEASE ask questions.   I have provided the best description I can of the vehicle.  I have included my phone number.   Call me and/or message me through EBAY.  I would trust this Land Rover to make a long trip, but if you are used to driving a new Range Rover Sport, it may not be for you.   It is a great 110 at a great price.  Period.  I have imported over 300 Land Rovers over the past 19 years, and this is one of the best unrestored vehicles I have seen.    I have driven it over 500 miles and it has run just the way it should.    I can arrange delivery door to door, or come out and drive it home.    I will be uploading additional photos shortly.

2019 Mercedes-Benz G-Class vs big luxury off-roaders: How they compare on paper

Mon, May 7 2018

During our first drive of the 2019 Mercedes-Benz G-Class, the all-new SUV's product manager was asked to identify competitors that might have been benchmarked in its development. The look on his face was about the same as if someone had asked him to recite King Lear in Klingon. As far as Andreas Hoeppel was concerned, the G 550 and AMG G 63 doesn't actually have a rival, or at least something the engineers and designers thought to compare it against. The G-Class is a G-Class, who cares what the other guys are doing? Well, in case you care, we figured we'd plug the new G-Class' specs into the old Autoblog Comparo Generator 3000 (TM) to see how the G 550 and AMG G 63 compare to the Range Rover and its mightiest SVAutobiography Dynamic model, plus the Lexus LX 570 and Bentley Bentayga V8. Frankly, Heir Hoeppel was onto something as each of these is wildly different. But, they do share some common elements: giant size and weight, ultra-lux interiors, and far more off-roading capability than other luxury SUVs offer and any of its owners are likely to ever utilize. Sad. So enjoy this trip down specification lane, and if you're still left hungry, you can always check out our Range Rover comparison or create your very own comparo. Off-Road Clearances and Capability All the fancy off-roading software and special cameras in the world won't do you a lick of good if your SUV is too close to the ground or has low-hanging body work that'll get easily ripped off. As such, check out each of these uber-SUV's ground clearance, approach and departure angles, and wading/fording depths. In this case, the Range Rover has an advantage due to its air suspension that can raise itself into an Off-Roading height that's a whopping 2 inches higher than the new G-Wagen. Sadly for itself, Lexus only provides figures for its air suspension when in normal height. It could match or surpass the Range Rover for all we know (but doubt it). As Land Rover does provide figures for the Range Rover's approach and departure angles in normal and Off-Road height, you can get an idea of just how much clearance the new G-Wagen has without any fancy (and expensive to fix) raising and lowering air suspension hardware. In fact, its departure angle is better than even the Range Rover's Off-Road height. Bentley doesn't provide any such information despite touting the Bentayga's surprising off-roading talents.

Why Land Rover's reluctant to show concepts: Chinese clones

Thu, Oct 19 2017

While the Chinese auto industry continues to grow and expand with new and original products, a number of automakers still refuse to play by the rules. Rather than coming up with original designs, these automakers shamelessly copy designs from other automakers, slapping their badge on the front as if it were an original product. According to Auto Express, Land Rover has grown tired of dealing with these frauds to the point that it's essentially stopped showing concept cars in order to stave off these clones. One of the most notable and brazen examples of these Chinese copycats is the LandWind X7. While that car looks like an obvious ripoff of the Range Rover Evoque, complaints by Jaguar Land Rover were dismissed, and the X7 hit the market for about a third of the price of the Evoque. Further efforts by JLR have done nothing to halt or change the car's production. It seems Chinese authorities are more interested in protecting the home team than upholding copyright laws. Land Rover design boss Gerry McGovern said the automaker was "wary of showing new concepts" because they just give these competitors time to work up a copy. Land Rover's latest model, the Velar, debuted in Geneva in production form. Skipping concepts may not stop competitors from making copies, but it does give Land Rover a huge head start when it comes to production. Jaguar to offer high-performance SVR models like Land Rover?

Tue, 01 Jul 2014

At the Goodwood Festival of Speed this past weekend, Land Rover previewed its upcoming performance version of the Range Rover Sport. Only instead of wearing the R-S badge that adorns the most hardcore of Jaguar models, the performance SUV from JLR's Special Operations unit introduced the letters SVR. And now, it seems that badge is here to stay.
Following the Range Rover Sport SVR, a new report from Motor Authority now says that Jaguar Land Rover will use those letters to distinguish the top-of-the-line performance models from both marques moving forward. As such, we might expect SVR models of the upcoming Jaguar XE compact sedan and Land Rover Discovery Sport, as well as potential new performance models based on the new F-Type and next-generation XF.
If accurate, the move would seem to separate Jaguar in particular from the R-S badge that has adorned performance models like the XFR-S and XKR-S. Both Audi and Porsche use the letters RS to distinguish its most hardcore models as well (e.g. Audi RS7 Sportback and Porsche 911 GT3 RS). Whether the similarity was a factor in shifting to the SVR moniker, we don't know, but either way, we welcome the arrival of a new generation of Jaguar and Land Rover performance models - especially if they pack the 575-horsepower version of the company's ubiquitous 5.0-liter supercharged V8. Not incidentally, that delicious powerplant gained a couple of new engine bays to call home at Goodwood as well - it's not just found in the forthcoming Range Rover Sport SVR, it's found a home in the F-Type Project 7, too.
