1988 Land Rover Defender 2.5 Turbo Diesel. Recently imported from Italy so it is left hand drive. Since photographed it has been Ontario safety certified and emissions tested so now has Ontario license plates and registration. Eligible for import into the USA as it was manufactured 10/06/88 and is in 100% original unmodified condition. If an American purchases the Land Rover I am happy to assist with the importation and can deliver free of charge to Buffalo NY if you would prefer to not travel to Canada. Also delivery can be arranged to anywhere within the lower 48 States for an extra cost, please contact me with your Zip Code for a quote. This is possibly the best original 1988 Defender available anywhere. The overall condition is exceptional. Also included in the sale is a fully rebuilt Defender 200 TDi motor with all ancillaries, intercooler and all necessary fittings plus many new spares worth about $6,000. If you should not require the 200 TDi motor and spares I will discount the price of the Land Rover by $3,000 as I would prefer to sell everything together as a package.

I own a business exporting classic American cars to Europe. I am currently looking for a 1972/1973 Buick Riviera and a 1972/1973 Dodge Challenger. So if you have one of these vehicles in exceptional condition we may be able to make a deal within the rules of Ebay. I have imported a few Land Rover Defender's in the past to the USA and Canada. This particular example is by far the best I have ever seen of an un-restored original 25 year old Defender partly due to coming from a dry climate and it has the added attraction of being left hand drive. It certainly is a world away from the rusty right hand drive British examples that are often found advertised for sale.

The bodywork is in excellent condition. There are a few minor imperfections but nothing that detracts from the overall stunning appearance of the vehicle. It shows more like a 2 year old Defender rather than a 25 year old Defender. It has never been used off road in its whole lifetime. The usual corrosion prone area's such as the firewall, out riggers and rear crossmember are totally rust free and original. It has never had or needed any welding repairs and still sits on its original frame. The condition of the vehicle is comparable to a vehicle that has spent its life in southern California. I had the Land Rover fully waxoyl rustproofed before it left Europe so as to protect it from any possibility of corrosion while on the boat. I have photographs of the rear crossmember and out riggers before and after so as you can see that it is not just waxoyl over rust and that the frame is in perfect rust free condition.

Mechanically this Land Rover is faultless. The original 2.5 Turbo Diesel engine runs perfectly and pulls well. It was fully rebuilt a few years ago. It always starts, obviously you have to use the glow plugs when starting from cold. There is the expected usual diesel smoke when started from cold but this soon clears as it should. Last month it had a new timing belt, diesel lift pump, rebuilt injector pump, valve cover gasket, coolant, oil and filter, fuel filter and air filter. Since then it has completed a 1,000 mile trip from Halifax NS to Kingston ON and it performed faultlessly using no oil. The clutch and transmission are precise and smooth to operate making for a rewarding driving experience. There are no nasty clonks or driveline noises. Both axles are quiet. The transfer box and differential lock work perfectly. Brakes are all good, the power assisted steering is precise with no play in the steering box. All the suspension components are faultless. All tires are good quality with plenty of tread depth including the spare. It runs and drives as it would of when new. It happily cruises at 65-70 mph and does not have any overheating issues at all. It has only covered 122,000 kilometers which is 75,800 miles.

The interior is also in exceptional condition. The headliner is perfect. The dash pad is not cracked. The door panels have no damage. It shows very little wear anywhere. There was a rip on the drivers seat base but I had a new seat base ordered and fitted to rectify this. All gauges operate as they should. The heater is very good. The door seals are good as there is no nasty wind noise as often there is with Defender's and it did not leak when it rained while driving the vehicle from Halifax. Overall a very nice and clean original Defender interior.

I genuinely believe this is the best example of a totally original 25 year old Defender that you will find anywhere. I have seen 2 year old British examples in worse condition. If you want the best original unmodified Defender Turbo Diesel available in North America than this is it. I am open to sensible offers but please be realistic as I think it is priced extremely fairly considering the rebuilt 200 TDi and spares are worth $6,000 alone. If you have any questions please message me or you can call me on 613-328-1600. If I cannot answer leave a voicemail or send me a text message and I will get back to you.

A NON REFUNDABLE DEPOSIT OF $1,000 MUST BE RECEIVED WITHIN 24 HOURS OF BUY IT NOW OR BEST OFFER BEING ACCEPTED. THIS CAN BE PAID BY BANK TRANSFER/WIRE. THE FULL BALANCE MUST BE PAID BY BANK TRANSFER/WIRE WITHIN 7 DAYS OF BUY IT NOW OR BEST OFFER BEING ACCEPTED. ALTERNATIVELY YOU CAN PAY THE BALANCE IN CASH ON COLLECTION IF YOU PREFER. THE VEHICLE MUST BE COLLECTED WITHIN 7 DAYS OF BUY IT NOW OR BEST OFFER BEING ACCEPTED.

THE LAND ROVER IS LOCATED IN KINGSTON, ONTARIO CANADA. I AM HAPPY TO COLLECT THE BUYER FROM TORONTO AIRPORT FREE OF CHARGE IF YOU SHOULD REQUIRE. OR I CAN DELIVER TO BUFFALO NY IF AMERICAN BUYERS WOULD PREFER. I DON'T SEE ANY REASON WHY THIS LAND ROVER WOULD NOT DRIVE ANYWHERE IN NORTH AMERICA SO DRIVING IT HOME WOULD BE AN OPTION.

A hybrid and electric Corvette, plus we drive the Ioniq 5 | Autoblog Podcast #728

Fri, May 6 2022

In this episode of the Autoblog Podcast, Editor-in-Chief Greg Migliore is joined by Road Test Editor Zac Palmer. Zac drove the electric 2022 Hyundai Ioniq 5, and Greg drove the fire-breathing 2022 Maserati Levante Trofeo. The two dive deep into the relatively heavy news week by starting off with a discussion about the upcoming hybrid Corvette before chatting about what the electric Corvette might be like. They have a chat about the possibility of Porsche and Audi officially joining the Formula 1 field. Then, Greg and Zac get into some quick-hitting news to round out the segment by dissecting the updated Kia Soul (now without a turbo), the 30th Anniversary Edition Land Rover Defender and the new CEO at Aston Martin. Following the news and drive reviews, they rope in Senior Editor, Green John Beltz Snyder to give them a quick download of what went down at the first drive for the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning. Finally, they reach into the mailbag and answer some questions from someone who is less than pleased about infotainment systems in some new cars. And lastly, the gang hears back from someone they helped out in a prior Spend My Money segment on the podcast. Send us your questions for the Mailbag and Spend My Money at: Podcast@Autoblog.com. Jaguar Land Rover names ousted Renault boss as new CEO

Tue, Jul 28 2020

LONDON — Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has picked ousted Renault boss Thierry Bollore as its next chief executive, with a mission to return Britain's biggest carmaker to profit after a big hit from the COVID-19 pandemic. Bollore took over at Renault in January 2019 after the fall of Carlos Ghosn, but was always viewed as close to the French carmaker's longtime boss and was pushed out in October when the company was looking for a fresh start. Bollore will take over at JLR on Sept. 10, replacing Ralf Speth, whose tenure ends after more than 10 years. "It will be my privilege to lead this fantastic company through what continues to be the most testing time of our generation," Bollore said in a statement on Tuesday. JLR was hit this year first by disruption to sales in China and then by lockdowns across Europe and North America as the COVID-19 outbreak spread around the globe. In 2019, it cut jobs to address tumbling diesel sales, which helped it return to profit. But as the pandemic struck, it slumped to a pretax loss of 422 million pounds ($545 million) for the year ended March 31, 2020. The company has already taken steps to tackle the crisis, including agreeing to a loan facility of around $700 million with lenders in China and further staff reductions. JLR is also in talks with the British government over potential support, according to media reports. Bollore takes over a business that built just over 500,000 cars in 2019/20. He faces a number of tasks, including how to handle the Jaguar brand, which underperforms the Land Rover marque, how quickly to electrify its lineup and a potential hit from Brexit if trade barriers are imposed. JLR has a partnership with BMW on electrification, and parent company Tata Motors recently recommitted to the company. "Tata Group recognizes and values Jaguar Land Rover's future potential highly," said JLR Chairman Natarajan Chandrasekaran earlier this month. "That is why this company is central to our global automotive presence – a presence that we intend to develop for years to come." Jaguar models could rev with inline-six engines again

Tue, Apr 19 2016

Rumors are swirling once again that Jaguar might return an inline-six engine to its lineup. Autocar claims Jaguar Land Rover will use the modular Ingenium engine family to create a 3.0-liter straight-six. The new motor will replace the automaker's current V6. As with the Ingenium 2.0-liter four-cylinder, JLR will likely offer the powerplant in gasoline- and diesel-fueled versions. A rumor in May 2015 also suggested JLR would create an Ingenium-based turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six and a 1.5-liter three-cylinder unit. According to Autocar, the engine bay in the XE, XF, and F-Pace can already fit the longer engine. The automaker isn't talking, though. "We can't comment on future product one way or another," company spokesperson Nathan Hoyt told Autoblog. Jaguar built much of its performance legacy with straight-six-powered vehicles. While the C-Type and D-Type were winning races with the engine layout, practically every Jaguar production model used them as well. Today, straight-sixes are less common. BMW continues to use them, and Mercedes-Benz reportedly also plans to offer one soon. While Autocar's report is still just a rumor, the move to an inline-six could be advantageous for JLR. For example, using an Ingenium-derived design could simplify manufacturing by allowing the company to build the powerplant in one factory alongside the 2.0-liter version. Returning to a design with such an important heritage for Jaguar would also make life easy for the brand's marketing team because it could link the new engine to past racing glory. Related Video:
