Lamborghini supercar prototype shows angry face in spy photos

Tue, Jul 5 2022

Lamborghini made it clear last year that it's working on a new supercar to replace the V12-powered Aventador. And the car shown above is definitely a new Lamborghini of some sort. However, we don't think this is the Aventador replacement. Instead, we suspect this is another limited-run Aventador-based special model. The key tipoff is the greenhouse. All the glass looks just like the pieces found on the Aventador, the Countach, the Sian and plenty of other special Aventador models. Similarly, the proportions of the car match those models, too. And Lamborghini has said that its full Aventador replacement will be a completely new car with a completely new powertrain. So nothing leftover from its predecessor. There are of course styling features not shared with other Aventador-based cars, so it will still probably be a unique model. The front end has particularly angry eyebrows over the lights, and they appear to intersect with the lower grille openings. Interesting aerodynamic panels behind the windows also show up. The rear is the most distinct with high-mounted quad-exit exhaust right in line with slim taillights. Note, the "lights" lower in the rear are just printed on the camouflage. This prototype also tips us off to the powertrain. On the outside are high-voltage warning stickers. And since it seems to be a special Aventador-based model, we bet it's using the same hybrid V12 used in the Countach and Sian. Output should be around 803 horsepower, maybe a little more from the naturally aspirated V12 and a small electric motor powered by a supercapacitor. We're expecting the car will be revealed within a year, since it looks pretty far along in development, and it's based on a car whose days are numbered. We don't have a name yet, but Lamborghini recently trademarked the name Revuelto, which could be used on this model, or on that planned Aventador replacement. A new Lamborghini Countach is coming soon

Mon, Aug 9 2021

Update: We received a tip in email that somebody posted an image online from Lamborghini's customer-only app, Lamborghini Unica. It reveals a teaser image of the Countach LPI 800-4 not previously made available to the public. The Instagram post also reveals that the Countach will be revealed during Monterey Car Week on August 15. The "LPI" moniker is the giveaway that this car will be a hybrid, as Lamborghini has used that term on the hybrid Asterion LPI 910-4 Concept. We also expect it to make 800 PS, which is about 789 horsepower. The "4" refers to it being all-wheel drive. You can check out the Instagram post and teaser photo below. It reveals the vents mounted on the side window and the vented intake behind it. Below this, we see what appears to be a gas cap. This content is hosted by a third party. Lamborghini just announced that a new Countach is coming! OK. Let that soak in for a few seconds, or minutes, however long it takes. We’re a bit shocked over here, too. ThereÂ’s one teaser image to go off of, and Lamborghini hasnÂ’t let loose any details beyond giving us the name. You can see the car under a car cover and shrouded by haze in the photo above. However, thereÂ’s a video thatÂ’s been posted to Twitter that you can watch below. This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Manage Settings. We get some great engine noises, and the new Countach appears to be parked a long way away from the camera at the end of the video. It appears to be painted white, but thatÂ’s all we can tell about it from that distance. ThereÂ’s no doubt that Lamborghini is leaning heavily into nostalgic feelings, as you see original Countach posters pinned up to a kidÂ’s room in the video. Lamborghini seems intent on recapturing that wild, exotic magic that the old Countach brought to the supercar landscape. It's tough to say what the styling will be like besides being a wedge like most Lambos. It could be a very retro design, sort of like the Miura concept from over a decade ago. It could also be a thoroughly modern Lamborghini design that happens to have a classic nameplate attached. For what it's worth, Lamborghini's design boss seemed to be against anything overtly retro as of a few years ago.

Lamborghini files for trademark on Egoista name

Wed, Dec 2 2015

Lamborghini has reportedly filed to register a trademark for the name Egoista. The name was previously used on an outrageous one-off, single-seater concept revealed in 2013. While the trademark application doesn't necessarily mean the concept will be put into production, it certainly bodes well. Fans of the marque will recall that the Lamborghini Egoista surfaced in May 2013 as a birthday present from the automaker to itself on the occasion of its 50th anniversary. The radical design penned by Walter De Silva was inspired by helicopter gunships and featured a single solitary seat under a canopy, giving the one-of-a-kind creation its "selfish" name. Motivation (were it ever let out onto the street) came from a 5.2-liter V10 like the one in the Gallardo and Huracan, optimized to the tune of 600 horsepower. The Egoista was never displayed at any auto shows, going straight to the museum in Sant'Agata Bolognese at the entrance to the company's factory and headquarters. At the time of its creation, Lamborghini said that "the Egoista is pure emotion, Never Never Land, which no one can ever possess, and which will always remain a dream, for everyone." The reported filing of the trademark application would ostensibly suggest a change of heart on Lambo's part, or at least that it could be entertaining the use of the name for some application beyond the concept that's now two and a half years old. One can dream, at any rate. Related Video:
