Uber adds supercar rides in Singapore

Order a ride through Uber and you'll have a choice between what kind of car you want or need: Uber Black for standard fare, Uber X for the lowest cost available, Uber Taxi to order a regular cab, Uber SUV if you need to move more people or even Uber Lux if you want a luxury town car service. But customers in Singapore now have another option: to be picked up in a Lamborghini or Maserati. The pilot program launched in collaboration with Dream Drive will allow customers to be picked up in either a Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder or a Maserati GranTurismo to get around the Southeast Asian city-state. Ordering up the Maser will set customers back 165 Singapore Dollars (equivalent of $120 USD) for the first 15 minutes and 7 SGD ($5.10) for every subsequent minute. The Lambo gets the same per-minute rate but begs a higher 200 SGD ($146) base rate. Uber and Dream Drive were even offering free rides over the weekend to launch the initiative. Those prices make riding around in an Italian exotic pretty pricey, especially since you don't actually get to drive them – just ride shotgun. But then cars are quite expensive to begin with in Singapore, where it costs over half a million in US dollars to get a new Maserati in the first place. Lamborghini Urraco ownership is traumatic but awesome

Gene Ondrusek and his 1975 Lamborghini Urraco have a relationship forged in heartache. He bought the car on a whim in 1987 and had barely driven it when the timing belt snapped thanks to a bad previous engine rebuild. With the interior already a wreck, Ondrusek set off on a restoration that would take years to get the Lamborghini back together.
All of that time arm-deep in the car's mechanicals has turned Ondrusek into a pretty persnickety owner. Passengers have to remove their shoes before getting in, and he has a mat to protect the carpet on the driver's side. However, despite his fastidious temperament, this Urraco isn't a garage queen and gets driven often.
Ondrusek doesn't exactly make the Urraco sound like an unmitigated joy behind the wheel, either. The seating position forces the driver to sit at an angle, and with no power brakes or power steering, the wedge-shaped coupe is not exactly easy to handle at low speeds. Still, all that time fixing the car has clearly created a strong bond behind man and machine, and we think the wedgy, underappreciated mid-Seventies Marcello Gandini design has held up well. Gumball team creates Lamborghini-powered Batmobile

Look, whatever you think of the Gumball 3000 Rally, it does attract some spectacular machinery. High-end supercars and modded monsters are the norm, but occasionally, something really special pops up. Like the Batmobile. Okay, so this isn't exactly the Batmobile, but the Dark Knight's wheels clearly served as the inspiration for this brute. It comes from Team Galag, one of the many groups that contest the globe-trotting Gumball. This car has had very real, very talented hands on it during development. According to the video, the lead engineer spent 15 years at Sweden's Koenigsegg, which might explain the lovely detail on the carbon-fiber body. The fixed wheel covers are impressive but disorienting, making it look like the car just hovers over the road. Underneath all that carbon fiber sits a thumping 5.2-liter V10, borrowed from a Lamborghini Gallardo. This might be the only application where this engine is underwhelming – look at that body, and then listen to the engine. It just feels a little mismatched for such a wild looking car.
