Lamborghini files for trademark on Egoista name

Lamborghini has reportedly filed to register a trademark for the name Egoista. The name was previously used on an outrageous one-off, single-seater concept revealed in 2013. While the trademark application doesn't necessarily mean the concept will be put into production, it certainly bodes well. Fans of the marque will recall that the Lamborghini Egoista surfaced in May 2013 as a birthday present from the automaker to itself on the occasion of its 50th anniversary. The radical design penned by Walter De Silva was inspired by helicopter gunships and featured a single solitary seat under a canopy, giving the one-of-a-kind creation its "selfish" name. Motivation (were it ever let out onto the street) came from a 5.2-liter V10 like the one in the Gallardo and Huracan, optimized to the tune of 600 horsepower. The Egoista was never displayed at any auto shows, going straight to the museum in Sant'Agata Bolognese at the entrance to the company's factory and headquarters. At the time of its creation, Lamborghini said that "the Egoista is pure emotion, Never Never Land, which no one can ever possess, and which will always remain a dream, for everyone." The reported filing of the trademark application would ostensibly suggest a change of heart on Lambo's part, or at least that it could be entertaining the use of the name for some application beyond the concept that's now two and a half years old. Watch a 1,000 hp twin-turbo Lamborghini Huracan dyno run

AMS/Alpha Performance, known for their Audi R8 V10 Alpha 10 Twin Turbo package, have laid their eager hands on the Lamborghini Huracan. In this short and sweet video, the newly improved prototype Huracan struts its stuff on the dynamometer. Like the Audi, the Huracan also gains a pair of Garrett ball bearing turbos coupled with intercoolers, and the car has been built as a prototype of their stage one turbo system. It is virtually identical to the production version of AMS's twin turbo package for the Huracan, and the system has been devised to be a bolt-on system. The AMS package can be shipped out to anyone in the Alpha dealer network and installation has been made straightforward enough. "There is no hacking or cutting up the car", says Alpha's VP and lead engineer, Arne Toman. "It has been designed to be safe for the stock engine and transmission, and the only driveline improvement is an upgraded clutch pack which we include in the package." With pump gas, the Huracan TT Alpha 10 has a Veyron-baiting 1,000 horsepower, with the fuel system "maxed out" according to Arne. The Stage 2 setup, which will include forged engine internals, will go for 1,500 hp, while the third stage package dishes out more than 2,000 horsepower according to AMS. The prototype Huracan will run at the Gold Rush Rally next month, from Boston to Los Angeles. It should be a proper shakedown to prove the car's reliability, which is one aspect AMS Performance has been going for. Lamborghini Aventador LP 750-4 Superveloce strips down, powers up [w/video]

"I hope the sun doesn't shine today." "I'm good-looking enough." "What the Aventador really needs is more power." There are some words that are seldom if ever spoken, but then there are some people who aren't inclined to listen to them. And we're glad that a growing number of 'em work for Lamborghini. Because without them, we wouldn't have beautiful monstrosities like the new Aventador SV, presented for the first time at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. It's actually called the Lamborghini Aventador LP 750-4 Superveloce, but that's a mouthful and a half of spaghetti bolognese, so everyone will be calling it SV for short. But whatever you want to call it, it promises to be fast. Like, time-warpingly fast. The tinkerers in Sant'Agata have managed to squeeze 740 horsepower and 509 pound-feet of torque out of the Aventador's already high-strung 6.5-liter V12. Unburdened by 110 pounds of excess weight, with an increase in downforce by 170 percent, a retuned suspension, a variable steering rack and new carbon-ceramic brakes, the Aventador SV is slated to run to 62 in 2.8 seconds and on to a top speed of 217 miles per hour. Which nobody needs, of course, but when was a Lamborghini ever about meeting needs as much as desires?
