Teen who stole Guy Fieri's Lamborghini gets life in prison [w/video]
Mon, 27 Jan 2014If you're currently on a crime spree, we'd recommend against stealing the Lamborghini of a popular, bleached-blonde chef, lest you end up getting sentenced to life in prison. That's not to say 19-year-old Max Wade's life sentence was simply due to pilfering Guy Fieri's Lambo - an attempted murder charge for a drive-by shooting, among other crimes, also played a role - but we doubt it did much for his case.
You'll recall we last reported on Fieri's missing Gallardo Spyder in April of 2012, when it was reported that the Marin County Sheriff's Department and Mill Valley Police Department recovered the car from a storage container, that also housed the motorcycle Wade, then 17, used in the drive-by. Wade originally stole the V10-powered droptop from a San Francisco dealership in 2011, reportedly by rappelling onto the dealership's roof.
Wade was charged as an adult for his crimes, despite being a minor when they were committed, and could be eligible for parole at an unspecified date. That said, he's also facing a separate sentence of over 21 years, according to Boston.com. Scroll down for the news report from KPIX-5, the Bay Area's CBS affiliate.
The Lamborghini Urus finally starts production in April
Mon, Feb 6 2017It's been years since Lamborghini pulled back the cover on the Urus, the automaker's first SUV since the bold and boxy LM002. Since then we've gotten a few details on the twin-turbo V8 and the plug-in hybrid system, but no one outside of Lamborghini has had a chance to get behind the wheel. According to company CEO Stefano Domenicali, the wait won't be much longer as Lamborghini's newest model is slated to start production this spring. In an interview with Digital Trends, Domenicali stated that pre-production models will start rolling off the line in April. That means it will still be a few months before the first batch reaches customer hands. According to The Drive, Lamborghini has significantly expanded its facility in Sant'Agata, Italy, in order to meet production demands. Annual output for the Huracan and Aventador will be capped at 3,500 cars each. Look for similar output for the Urus. We know that the Urus will get a plug-in hybrid system, but don't look for a battery-powered Aventador anytime soon. The Urus will be the only model that gets the system. There are still a lot of unknowns when it comes to the Urus, so look for final numbers on power, performance, and price closer to final production. Lamborghini Veneno makes full appearance before Geneva debut
Mon, 04 Mar 2013This is it: The Lamborghini Veneno supercar that will debut later today in Geneva and, along with the the McLaren P1 and Ferrari Enzo successor, give this motor show in Switzerland no less than three world supercar premieres. A number of images of the Veneno have leaked early, which we've assembled in the attached gallery for your slack-jawed, drool-stained perusal.
The Veneno is reported to mark Lamborghini's 50th anniversary, and will be built in a production run of just three, each with a price tag of around $4.6 million and each one bearing a color of the Italian flag (green, white or red). And no, Richie Rich, you can't have one, because all three are already sold.
As for its mechanicals, the Veneno is supposedly based on the Aventador, which makes sense, though it wears a completely different carbon fiber body that's even more extreme than other recent hypercars from Lamborghini, including the Sesto Elemento and Reventon. It will almost certainly be powered by Lamborghini's 6.5-liter V12 producing around 740 horsepower, while a seven-speed single-clutch transmission will carve up that output on the way to the Veneno's reported top speed of 220 miles per hour.
