Lamborghini unveils 50th anniversary Aventador Roadster and Gallardo

Though hardly moving into Porsche levels of 50th Anniversary celebrations, Lamborghini is taking its own golden jubilee pretty seriously. The Italian company treated the world to a 50 Anniversario version of the Aventador LP720-4 earlier this year in Shanghai. At this year's swanky show at The Quail during Pebble Beach weekend, Lamborghini is showing off the convertible version of the car, the very sultry Aventador LP 720-4 Roadster 50 Anniversario.
What's more, the company has brought along the anniversary-treated Gallardo LP560-2 50 Anniversario as well, which we officially saw for the first time in China. Hey, a stage full of Lambos is no bad thing in our book.
As the coupe version before it, the 50th Anniversary Aventador has been massaged to make a full-bodied 720 horsepower from its stunning 6.5-liter V12, as well as done up with special edition paint and badging. A subtlety redesigned front splitter will call out the limited run Aventador Roadster to those in the know, too. Unless you're a captain of industry, a professional athlete or some kind of thickly bankrolled celebrity, there's a pretty good chance that you're not going to be amongst the lucky first owners of the upcoming Lamborghini Huracán LP 610-4 supercar. We can commiserate, as just the though of slipping behind the wheel of the Gallardo-replacing monster, and gunning the 610-horsepower V10 engine is enough to get our hearts racing.
It's a kindly gesture on the part of Lamborghini then, to put together this little Huracán driving simulator for us 99-percenters. Perhaps not the very last word in graphical presentation or life-like physics engines, the sim is nevertheless a cool diversion for a flash-based driving game. If you're like us, you'll need a few laps to get acquainted with the brutish steering controls, but we trust you'll catch on. Last one around the test track buys the first round of grappa at happy hour.

Lamborghini Aventador reports for taxi duty at Bologna airport

Lamborghini has invaded another airport as part of its 50th anniversary celebrations. In January, it took over one of the two runways at Miami-Dade International Airport so it could conduct high-speed runs and have an Aventador pose with a Boeing airliner. Across the Atlantic, the Aventador has just been made the "Follow Me" vehicle at the Aeroporto di Bologna, which is 30 minutes from the company factory in Sant' Agata Bolognese.
According to Auto Evolution, it's been done up just like the Fiat models one normally encounters on such duty - it even has a light bar in case pilots don't simply want to follow the noise. Specially trained airport staff will guide arriving flights to their gates in the Aventador from May 6 to May 19, and once passengers are deplaned, they can check out the Lamborghini exhibit inside the airport.
