2004 Kia Optima Ex Sedan 4-door 2.7l on 2040-cars
Lumberton, New Jersey, United States
Selling my 2004 KIA Optima to buy a newer commuting car. I'm the 2nd owner, not including the KIA dealer that I bought it from. It was first owned by a major rental car company. I bought it with about 25K miles on it and used it to commute on the highway. The motor and transmission are great. This is the V6. Acceleration is very good and smooth. It has the usual scratches, but the biggest blemish is a small hand-sized shallow dent on the right front. I didn't see it happen, but someone did it in a parking lot. From the same incident there is also a bit of door trim that separates from the passenger door. You can see both in the pictures. Other than that, the body and paint are in fair to good condition. Although it has a lot of miles on it, everything is in working order except the air conditioning. A local mechanic quoted $600 to install a new compressor. I'd rather use that money toward a newer car. So, if the situation fits you and you want to get a well running car at a low price - and can either live without the AC (since summer is almost over) or get it fixed on your own, this is a good car for a teen or anyone else that needs an inexpensive ride. Because of the AC, I'm selling it at $700 under the Kelley Blue Book private party sale value. The tires are brand new. The spare is like new. The heater works great. Power windows and locks work fine. The ABS brakes are good and have at least 50% on the pads. New rotors and flushed brake lines a few years ago. The oil has been changed routinely and there are no leaks of any kind. The timing belt and water pump were replaced at 130K. No warning lights are on. All lights and signals work. |

Hyundai and Kia settle lawsuit over hybrid technology
Tue, Dec 15 2015Hyundai and Kia will end Paice's patent infringement lawsuit by signing a licensing agreement to use the firm's hybrid technology for their vehicles, according to Bloomberg. A statement by Paice says that this new contract ends any legal disputes between the companies, but doesn't disclose the cost of the settlement. A Hyundai spokesperson declined to comment about the case's resolution to Autoblog. Paice and the Abell Foundation, an investor, brought the case against Hyundai and Kia in 2012 over the tech in the Sonata and Optima Hybrids, and the court sided in the patent holder's favor in October 2015. The jury ordered the automakers to pay at least $28.9 million, but the judge could have tripled that amount because the infringement was allegedly intentional. Hyundai pledged to appeal the ruling. Paice's patents come from the work of Alex Severinsky and cover ways to make engines and electric motors work together. The company has a history of defending its tech, including settlements with Toyota and Ford. It also filed another case against the Blue Oval in 2014 over the hybrid or plug-in systems in the C-Max, Fusion, and Lincoln MKZ. Hyundai and Kia sign licensing agreement with Paice Paice, a pioneer in hybrid electric vehicle technology, has reached an agreement to license all of its hybrid vehicle technology to Hyundai Motor Co. and Kia Motors Corp. Paice has now licensed all or part of its hybrid vehicle technology portfolio to Toyota, Hyundai/Kia, and Ford – three of the world's six largest automakers. These three companies currently account for 90% of all hybrid vehicle sales in the United States. "We are gratified to reach a licensing agreement with Hyundai and Kia, who are among the undisputed leaders in the hybrid industry. This agreement further validates the importance of our technology, and we hope to reach additional agreements with other major automakers," said Frances Keenan, chairman of the Paice Board of Directors. The confidential licensing agreement with Hyundai and Kia brings an end to all litigation between the companies. Paice and the Abell Foundation, a Baltimore-based non-profit organization that invested in Paice, filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Hyundai and Kia in U.S. District Court in 2012. After an eight-day jury trial earlier this year, the jury sided with Paice and Abell, awarding $28,915,600. Hyundai and Kia currently rank third in U.S. hybrid car sales.
What a strike in Korea could mean for US Hyundai and Kia buyers
Mon, 19 Aug 2013A prolonged factory strike at Hyundai-Kia factories in South Korea could mean that US dealership inventory of certain vehicles, such as the South Korea-built Hyundai Accent and Kia Soul, could dry up in the coming months, depending on the length of the strike, reports Cars.com's blog, Kicking Tires. The two brands together rank sixth in US sales and fifth in global sales.
Kicking Tires gives fascinating insight into how a production stoppage in South Korea might affect vehicle sales in the US, considering Hyundai-Kia has two factories in the US that build the Kia Sorento and Optima/Optima Hybrid, and the Hyundai Elantra sedan/coupe/GT, Sonata/Sonata Hybrid and Santa Fe/Santa Fe Sport. The only one of these vehicles that's built solely in the US is the Kia Sorento, with the rest of them sharing production with South Korea.
Be sure to read the piece, especially if you're in the market for a Hyundai or Kia, or just interested in global economics.
