THE REAR AXEL PINION GEAR SNAPPED ON THE HIGHWAY WHICH LOCKED UP AND DESTROYED THE GEAR BOX AND TRANS. ENGINE IS FINE. I HAVE A REPLACEMENT BA-10 TRANS MATED TO A NP-231 GEAR BOX READY TO GO IN. "TOLD WAS SOLID WHEN I PURCHASED" THE REAR END WILL NEED TO BE REBUILT WITH A NEW PINION GEAR, VEHICLE DOES ROLL (NOT LOCKED UP). THE ENGINE RUNS STRONG. HOWEVER HAS BEEN SITTING FOR A FEW MONTHS AND WILL NEED A TUNE UP. THIS WAS MY DAILY DRIVER AND I HATE TO SEE IT GO, BUT I RECENTLY HAD TO GET OUT OF THE MARINE CORPS DO TO A BACK INJURY AND AM UNABLE TO DO THE WORK. THE JEEP IS CURRENTLY LOCATED IN BRADENTON, FL. I LIVE IN TENNESSEE. HOWEVER EITHER MYSELF OR A FAMILY MEMBER WILL BE PRESENT WHEN THE VEHICLE IS TO BE PICKED UP. NO STEREO. THE JEEP USED TO HAVE A SOFT TOP (IT WILL COME WITH THE FRAME, BUT THERE IS NO CANVAS) WHICH IS WHY THE WINDOWS ARE BLACK AND STICK OUT A BIT. THE HARD TOP ACCEPTS ROUNDED WINDOWS. THE UPPER DOOR SOFT WINDOW FRAME'S NEEDS TO BE CUT AT THE TOP REAR CORNER AND ROUNDED. THEN PURCHASE APPROPRIATE NEW SOFT WINDOWS (ABOUT 50 BUCKS ON EBAY). ALSO THE REAR WINDOW WAS SMASHED SO I HAVE A TEMPORARY PLEXIGLAS ONE IN PLACE FOR THE MOMENT. SEATS REQUIRE NEW COVERS. WITH A LITTLE BIT OF WORK AND A FEW HUNDRED DOLLARS IN LABOR/PARTS YOU WILL HAVE A SOUND GOOD LOOKING JEEP THATS GOOD ON GAS. THE BODY IS VERY STRAIGHT FEW SMALL DENTS AND CHIPS. THERE IS SOME SURFACE RUST ON THE SIDE RAILS AND BUMPERS BUT THE BODY, FRAME AND UNDER BODY HAS VERY LITTLE IF ANY. MILEAGE LISTED IS NOT EXACT. Daily Driver: Long-Term 2014 Jeep Cherokee
Tue, Mar 10 2015As a fan of the boxy Jeep styling of old, I was disappointed when photos first leaked of Jeep's revived Cherokee in early 2013. Then the midsize crossover arrived in Autoblog's longterm garage in May of 2014 and my opinion did a 180. I was prompted to rethink the exterior design of the vehicle after reading our reviewer's interview with head Jeep designer Mark Allen. "The previous, blocky Cherokee was so aerodynamically inefficient, it would be wrong to do it," Allen told Autoblog's Jonathon Ramsey. That made sense. After all, Jeep is a brand associated with the outdoors, so its only natural that they seek to produce efficient, yet capable vehicles. It was then I began reconsidering the sleek lines of the new Cherokee. What once seemed bland and rounded now appeared streamlined and purpose-built. I also give Jeep credit for the slim headlamp silhouette, which look like no other SUV on the market – a far cry from the distinct circular lamps on Wranglers or squared headlights of past XJs. As I drove our long-term Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk on a few road trips, my affinity for the vehicle's comfortable interior grew as well. The seats held up to a nine-hour trek to Montreal, and the Chrysler Uconnect system made navigating the roads and the radio a breeze. Above you'll hear my early impressions of the Cherokee, and below you'll find a previous long-term update featuring Autoblog's Steven Ewing and Chris McGraw. UPDATE: The video mistakingly indicates that the Jeep Cherokee features LED headlights. The Jeep Cherokee, in fact, has daytime running lamps with LED accent lighting. Related Video:
Fiat Chrysler to get $105M fine from NHTSA for recall woes
Sun, Jul 26 2015The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is about to send a powerful message to automakers doing business in the United States, assuming reports of an upcoming $105 million fine against Fiat Chrysler Automobiles comes to fruition. In addition to the record-setting monetary fine, according to The Wall Street Journal, FCA will have to accept an independent auditor that will monitor the company's recall and safety processes and will be forced to buy back certain recalled vehicles. In other cases, such as with Jeep Grand Cherokee and Liberty models with gas tanks that could potentially catch fire in certain types of accidents, FCA will offer financial encouragement for owners to get their recall work done or to trade those older vehicles in on new cars, according to the report. FCA could reportedly reduce its fines if it meets certain conditions, though those remain unclear at this time. These actions against FCA are being taken after NHTSA began a probe into the automaker over almost two dozen separate instances where the government claims FCA failed to follow proper procedures for recalls and safety defects. Included in those safety lapses are more than 11 million vehicles currently in customer hands. These penalties and fines are separate from the investigation over security problems with Chrysler's Uconnect system that allowed hackers to obtain remote access into key vehicle systems in 1.4 million vehicles. Jeep still working to improve Cherokee's 9-speed auto
Tue, Feb 3 2015Fiat Chrysler is hoping an upcoming software update will stem the tide of consumer complaints surrounding its nine-speed automatic transmission. Owners of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee have reported a number of problems on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's SaferCar.gov website, since the new model and its troubled gearbox arrived way back in October 2013. The software update is "intended to keep the vehicle performing as intended, and to prevent durability issues from occurring in the future," an FCA spokesperson told Automotive News, and will be available to owners of both the 2014 to 2015 Jeep Cherokee and the 2015 Chrysler 200, which also uses the 9AT. While FCA will be notifying consumers of the update, owners can also request the software reflash if they happen into their dealer before then. Despite the widely documented problems with the transmission, the only complaints on NHTSA's website relate to the 2014 Cherokee – neither the 2015 Jeep nor the 200 have received any complaints. That bodes well as FCA prepares to begin deliveries of the 2015 Jeep Renegade and launch the Fiat 500X, both of which pair the 9AT with the 2.4-liter Tigershark four-cylinder. "We have had to do an inordinate amount of intervention on that transmission, surely beyond what any of us had forecast," FCA CEO Sergio Marchionne told Automotive News. "There are things that we have done – that we continue to do. Our proactive customer care intervention has actually increased in intensity on these vehicles in 2014, especially in the second half." What's fascinating about the 9AT's problems are that they haven't been the fault of manufacturer ZF, but have related to software that wasn't "mature" and had "teething problems," Marchionne has said previously, AN reports. With the lack of criticism for the 9AT in 2015 models and this pending software update, though, here's hoping that FCA has finally figured out its fuel-sipping gearbox. Related Video:
