ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

With a production run spanning nearly 30 years from 1963 to 1991, the first-generation "SJ" Jeep Wagoneer was one of the longest-running vehicles in U.S. automotive history. When the Wagoneer was introduced, about the only four-wheel-drive vehicles you could buy were utilitarian with decidedly military roots. This all-new offering from Jeep was designed from the ground up to be comfortable and luxurious -- and was the forefather to the modern luxury SUV. Although it was based on a truck frame and retained Jeep's 4x4 bona fides, it was the most car-like 4x4 available and proved quite popular.

This 1973 Jeep Wagoneer was a true barn find -- and is a very original, completely intact survivor. The truck has never been in an accident and still has its original Daisy Yellow paint on every panel. It has recently been professionally buffed to remove minor oxidation and surface rust; the paint shined up quite nicely and has an attractive patina around the edges. Exterior woodgrain, trim, bumpers, grille, hubcaps and glass are in good driver condition. The floors, rockers, and door bottoms are solid. We've included some photos of the underside that show the original factory undercoating still intact on the floor pans.

The interior is also very well preserved; original door panels, seats, headliner and dash are all in good condition. The original AM radio is still in place; there's an old FM converter mounted where the original analog clock would have been, and a non-functioning but period digital clockmounted in place of the original ash tray. Given how clean and unmolested the truck is as a whole, I think it would be worthwhile for the next owner to source an original clock and ash tray -- the dash has not been cut, so it would be an easy project.

Owing to the unusually good overall condition, we believe the mileage, at 61,528, to be original. Featuring a 360 cubic inch V8, automatic transmission, power steering, power brakes and air conditioning, it's quite comfortable to drive. Recent service includes new tires, a new brake booster and master cylinder, new fuel pump, rebuilt carburetor, fresh fluids and full tune up. Four-wheel drive works perfectly in both high and low range. It starts, runs and drives great -- and it even still has the original owner's manual in the glove box. It was a one-owner Georgia truck its entire life until last year when the original owner passed.

Gilles defends 2014 Jeep Cherokee design as "very contemporary"

Thu, 28 Feb 2013

Following the forced-hand introduction of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee, there has definitely been a mix of responses revolving around everything from its design to the return of the legendary nameplate. As evidence of this, just check out the 1,000+ comments in our article last week and some of the many opinions that were voiced. Following this not-too-warm reception, Ward's Auto had a chance to talk to Chrysler designer chief - and SRT president - Ralph Gilles, who shed a little more light on the styling direction of the new Cherokee.
Rather than looking to previous models for inspiration, Gilles says that the Cherokee has been designed to be more contemporary, with Mark Allen, head of Jeep design, adding that a main goal was to make sure the design still looks modern five years from now. Interestingly, Gilles does point out that one of the design elements incorporated on the new Cherokee that pays homage to past Jeeps is the sharply downward angle for the leading edge of the beltline, which he notes is meant to mimic the look of the old YJ and TJ Wrangler models fitted with half doors. Of course, the squared-off wheel openings - a signature Jeep cue - are still used.
This is probably a design that will need to be seen on the street in actual daylight to properly assess, but in the meantime, we'll bring you full images and impressions when the Cherokee debuts at next month's New York Auto Show.

2014 Jeep Cherokee: Long-term wrap-up [w/video]

Tue, Aug 11 2015

Sorry, Sweet Brown. Your place in Autoblog history as the most highly demanded long-term car has come to an end. We just finished a one-year test of a 2014 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk, and after 27,000 miles of hard use, one thing is very clear: this is one of the best all-rounders we've ever tested. The Jeep Cherokee isn't perfect, and our long-term tester proved that. But no compact crossover is. Still, the Trailhawk oozed personality where other small CUVs seem bland, and the Jeep felt more like a trusty companion than just another test car. For road trips, the requests weren't, "Can I have a long-term car this weekend?" They were specific: "I'd like the Cherokee, please." No matter the season, the driver, or the situation, the Jeep was always a sure fit. Fiat Chrysler bet big with this one. It had a global platform, a new engine, and one heck of a funny face. The end result was a CUV that we'd gladly welcome back into our fleet any day. View 51 Photos Our car carried a sticker price of $38,059, but that's without goodies like HID headlamps, a sunroof, or even full leather seats. Lots To Like Admittedly, we picked the Trailhawk trim for cosmetic reasons (more on it's off-road capability in a second). To this day, many of us still think the Cherokee is a homely little thing, but its inherent weirdness doesn't stand out as much when you add the black accents and big, knobby tires of the Trailhawk model. The butched-up look really works here, and we wouldn't have wanted the Jeep any other way. Of course, opting for Trailhawk package meant getting one of Jeep's more expensive Cherokees. Our car carried a sticker price of $38,059, but that's without goodies like HID headlamps (which we could have used – the halogens were pretty weak), a sunroof, or even full leather seats. This car genuinely felt premium, though. Right off the bat, the Cherokee received compliments for its comfortable, supportive seats, not to mention the high quality of interior materials and the general fit and finish. Specifically, the interior packaging won us over early on. We appreciated things like the higher-end stereo, smart layout of the center console, and ample storage, including a bin under the front passenger seat cushion. (That said, we also found that this bin becomes a catch-all for wrappers, french fries, and anything else that might get dropped on the seat.) The Uconnect infotainment system was a joy to use, never giving us any finicky problems or usability issues.

Jeep Cherokee finally dealer-bound

Tue, 22 Oct 2013

We had our First Drive of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee last month, but it appears that prospective buyers won't have too much longer to finally get time behind the wheel of the new small Jeep.
Automotive News is reporting that after a two-month delay, Jeep dealers will finally start receiving their first shipments of the new Cherokee, in the next 10 days. A Chrysler spokesperson confirmed to Autoblog that the Cherokee is indeed on its way to Jeep dealers.
According to AN, about 23,000 Cherokees have been built since production commenced back in June, but potential powertrain issues forced Jeep to make adjustments to the Cherokee along the way. Automotive News says that in order to make sure there are no issues with the Cherokee before it reaches customers, it is testing each vehicle after it rolls off the assembly line at a rented test track near the vehicle's Toledo North Assembly Plant.
