1988 Jeep Grand Wagoneer on 2040-cars

Year:1988 Mileage:112680 Color: looks very good
Location:

Old Saybrook, Connecticut, United States

Old Saybrook, Connecticut, United States

For Auction is a 1988 Jeep Grand Wagoneer.  This Jeep is in great condition for a 26 year old vehicle.  It lived its whole life in Colorado.  It looks and drives great.  The reserve price is reasonable.

Mechanically, the Jeep has been gone through top to bottom.  It recently passed strict Colorado emission testing with flying colors.  All of the original emission control equipment is intact and functional.  The engine is strong and starts easily.  The 4 wheel drive and cruise control work as they should.  The transmission shifts smoothly.  The Jeep drives very well.

The interior is in great condition.  The leather seats are not torn.  A/C blows ice cold.  All power windows including tailgate were recently serviced and work well.  Power seats work perfectly.  Power door locks are sometimes a little sticky but work well.  The headliner is sagging but not torn.  The carpet in the rear cargo area is torn in the corners.  The power mirror switch is faulty.  The windshield wiper system is "sticky" but works fine.

The exterior looks very good,  There is almost no rust except for two small spots as shown in the pictures on the front fender and rear quarter panel.  The wood surround is in very good shape for the age, the paneling has some peeling. The paint is fading on the left side and the clear coat is peeling on the roof and some other areas. The frame and under-body have virtually no rust.

Many new parts were recently installed for the following systems:
Emissions:  A California compliant catalytic converter (over $400), carbon canister, EGR valve, PCV valve, special curved PCV hose, miscellaneous vacuum hoses.
Suspension: Rancho shocks, steering stabilizer, transmission mount.
Cooling: Water pump, thermostat, radiator hoses, heater hoses, heater core, fan clutch, used radiator with low miles.
Fuel system: Fuel pump, accelerator pump, fuel filter, misc fuel lines.
Ignition system: spark plug wires, spark plugs, distributor cap and rotor, ignition coil, battery.
Engine mechanical: drive belts, valve cover gaskets.
Trim: Outer window wipes, and inner tailgate wipe.
The transmission fluid and filter were recently serviced, as well as differential fluids, and front wheel bearings.

There are some issues to be expected on a 26 year old vehicle.  The engine and transmission do have minor leaks as could be expected on a vehicle of this age.  It will need a muffler soon, all other exhaust components are in excellent condition.  The tires are "out of round" from sitting but still have 90% tread.

I have been as thorough as possible in the description, so a potential buyer can bid with confidence.  I believe that this is a very nice example of  these classic Jeeps.  It would be a great candidate for a complete restoration, or just driven as is.  It should have no trouble passing safety or emission inspection in any state.
I recently drove this Jeep from Colorado to Connecticut, over 1500 miles and wouldn't hesitate driving it across country again.

A $750 dollar deposit via paypal will be required within 48 hours after the auction ends.  Remaining balance in cash or certified check or bank transfer. During regular business hours at a local bank.
Any bidder with less than 5 feedback must contact me before placing bids.
The Jeep is located in Old Saybrook, CT.  Local pickup only.  I will consider driving the vehicle a short distance if buyer wishes to arrange and pay for shipping, and payment is complete.  All arrangements must be made before conclusion of auction.

Additional pictures are available.
Feel free to contact me with any questions.  Thank you and happy bidding.

Jeep Wrangler's shift to aluminum could see production leave Toledo

Mon, 06 Oct 2014

The Jeep Wrangler may be a timeless design, but sooner or later, time will run out and Chrysler will have to replace it with a newer model more friendly towards the earth it's designed to traverse. That will, it seems, mean a shift to aluminum construction (whether just for the body or for the entire structure) - but what will that mean for the Wrangler's long-time home of Toledo, OH?
According to the latest pronouncements from Fiat Chrysler chief Sergio Marchionne, the shift to an aluminum Wrangler would likely mean moving production out of Toledo. "If the solution is aluminum," Marchionne told Automotive News, "then I think unfortunately Toledo is the wrong place, the wrong setup to try and build a Wrangler, because it requires a complete reconfiguring of the assets that would be cost-prohibitive."
Marchionne also indicated that, were Wrangler production to move elsewhere, it would find another line to take its place in Ohio. "One of the thing that we are dealing with now is what else we do with Toledo that fulfills our commitment to the city and to Ohio. I don't have a doubt that there will be zero impact on head count and employment levels and anything else." Jeep has built the Wrangler in Toledo since World War II, with the exception of six years starting in 1986 when it was built in Brampton, Ontario. The complex dates back to 1910 and currently produces the Wrangler and Cherokee. Past products have included the Wagoneer and Commanche as well as the Dodge Dakota and Nitro.

2014 Jeep Cherokee uncovered with bold new look

Fri, 22 Feb 2013

Jeep has been shuttling around Alfa Romeo-based test mules and camouflaged prototypes of its replacement for the current Liberty for some time now. Those heavily disguised vehicles may have offered a glimpse of the new Jeep, but a new set of production-line images from Jalopnik tell a much more complete story.
Jalopnik report indicates unequivocally that the Cherokee name will be re-upped in place of Liberty, though it doesn't spell out exactly where that thinking comes from, though a name change has been rumored for some time. Chances are good that the same source that delivered these factory images delivered the name, as well.
The Cherokee absolutely has some Alfa Romeo DNA in its makeup, the final product is far from looking like its Guilietta ancestor. The athletic, high-waisted design is relatively attractive from what we can see here, though the grille and headlight treatment are sure to cause a lot of ruckus when the Cherokee makes its official debut at the New York Auto Show in April. The very narrow, pointed headlamps are pinched in a not particularly Jeep-ish fashion, and the curved, short version of the seven-slot grille is far more rakish than anything that Jeep has produced to date.
