1984 Jeep Grand Wagoneer on 2040-cars
Rogue River, Oregon, United States
Not original owner. 1984 Grand Wagoneer. Someone previously started this project getting various replacement parts, pieces, etc. and I bought this to finish her off....not gonna happen. Previously wood paneling effect removed. Vehicle painted burgundy with chrome plates along the bottom body line (excellent job installing the chrome plates), just above rockers - looks kinda neat and different. Gold pin striping along the high body line on both sides. The paint job looks pretty good, with 3 minor areas of concern: smaller than a dime size circle on the hood (dent), left rear roof support near the top (dented and scratched - I have the entire replacement chrome trim for the body that goes around the rear rollup window), and the right rear window (where the body meets the rubber window gasket), there is a spot about 3" long by 3/4" where the paint has come off. All the aforementioned areas are in the pictures above. The engine had $3400+ of work in 1999 (I have documentation) - new short block, timing cover, etc. Since 1999 til now, the engine has had 14219 miles put on it and runs great. Previous owner said new transmission as well, but I have no documentation to support that. However, the vehicle does run good and shifts as it should. Fresh motor oil and nice pink tranny fluid! Really nice aluminum wheels with good rubber still on the Goodyear tires. New battery (7/13). New alternator (10/13). I have not tested every single component of this vehicle. Windows roll up and down (except driver side door - needs plastic gear strip), doors lock, blower motor works, wipers work, turn signals and brake lights works, running lights and headlights work. AC does not turn on (fuse?), gas gauge doesn't register - just havent checked it out yet....havent even turned on the radio yet, although I believe its aftermarket. Brakes work fine. Center of rear bumper dented (just above receiver). Cooling system works great, however, someone has installed an aftermarket temperature gauge. Smog pump in place but not hooked up (holes on exhaust manifold plugged). Interior: leather burgundy front power seats in pretty good condition (no rips) and work fine, rear seat in good condition (not installed). Seat belts need install. I have all the new replacement door seals still in packages (need installation). Miscellaneous pieces of extra exterior chrome pieces. No cracks in glass. Someone installed different carpet in the rear cargo area, as well as black carpet up front and back(needs trimming). Power mirrors do not work. Missing small ashtray
(chrome insert) for right rear door. small rectangular piece missing
right side, just above glove box (clock?, ashtray?). Kick panels need replacing. Right rear cargo panel missing. Headliner out. Most work required is interior. Update: Since listing this last, I intentionally ended the auction early because I discovered: the vehicle has a "sag", left rear. I measured from the ground up to the wheel well opening. The left size measures 27 1/4", the right 29" (springs?, shocks? - dont know). Could use an engine compartment cleaning! Engine and tranny work great and she looks pretty cool. She just needs someone to finish her off.
Vehicle has not been Professionally inspected and buyers/bidders should understand that my opinion is purely observational and is not a guarantee of condition. 27 years old and not perfect. I will make every effort to provide any and all details that are apparent, however THERE MAY BE OTHER PROBLEMS THAT I HAVE NOT DETECTED. If you have questions or concerns, please contact me before bidding. If you want additional pictures, please don't hesitate to contact me. I also have a short video clip of the vehicle (engine running). This motor vehicle is being sold “AS-IS”, with all faults, including but not limited to those described herein, as well as any other faults or defects, whether or not presently known or discoverable with or without inspection and operation of the vehicle. Should the motor vehicle be found defective following its purchase, the buyer is fully responsible for any and all servicing and repair expenses. |

FCA and UAW deal could mean huge production shakeups
Thu, Sep 17 2015The big labor contract between Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and the United Auto Workers is likely to lead to some very serious production shakeups across the company's North American manufacturing operations. That's according to a new report from Automotive News, which details the sweeping changes at no fewer than five production facilities in Michigan, Illinois, Ohio, Mexico, and Poland. So without further ado, here's what's going where, presented in easy to digest bullet form. Ram 1500 production would move from Warren, MI to Sterling Heights, MI Warren, MI would be retooled for unibody production and would handle the Jeep Grand Wagoneer and could potentially build Grand Cherokees to ease the strain on Detroit's Jefferson North factory Chrysler 200 production would move from Sterling Heights, MI to Toluca, Mexico Dodge Dart production would move from Belvidere, IL to Toluca, Mexic Fiat 500 production, which is currently handled by Toluca, would be concentrated in Poland, where the Euro-spec Cinquecento is built Jeep Cherokee production would move from Toledo, OH to Belvidere, IL to make room for Wrangler and Wrangler Pickup production Like we said, those are some big changes. But, as FCA CEO Sergio Marchionne said in an earlier interview with Automotive News, this kind of shakeup would make a lot of sense. In that August interview the exec said that automakers moved truck production to Mexico because they were "threatened" by the UAW. "The only thing [the UAW] want is to move the truck back. Which is right. If you move the truck back here, which is [the UAW's] domain, [and move] all the cars that we get killed on somewhere else, we could actually make sense of this bloody industry and actually increase the number of people employed in this country and really share wealth because we are making money," Marchionne told AN. This American Life spends a week selling Jeeps in Long Island
Thu, 19 Dec 2013So you think you know car dealers? Well, maybe you do, but This American Life spent a month at Town and Country Jeep Chrysler Doge Ram in Long Island to give us a behind-the-scenes look (or listen, since it's a radio program) at what it's like to be a car dealer.
Yes, there's a lot of swearing in thick New York accents, frustration, confusion, and generally it's a madhouse at the dealership. But that's understandable when the sales staff has to sell 129 vehicles in October in order to get an $85,000 manufacturer bonus - with several other Jeep dealerships within a 10-mile radius.
The episode, 129 Cars, is worth a listen, but make sure you have 71 minutes to spare if you want to get through it in one sitting. Head here for the unedited version or here for the bleeped version (which is 58 minutes long).
2013 Jeep Wrangler Moab Edition
Wed, 11 Dec 2013There will forever be a soft spot in my heart for the Jeep Wrangler. The last one I owned was red, and, as a 1990 model, had the square headlights derided by Jeep enthusiasts who grew up on the Civilian Jeeps that descended from their General Purpose military ancestors. As a teenager, I couldn't have cared less what shape its headlights happened to be - to me, a Jeep Wrangler represented freedom; a carefree do-it-all machine equally at home with the top stowed away in the summer or with the heater on full blast in the snowy clutches of Old Man Winter. In Dr. Seuss parlance, my square-headlighted Sneetch was just as worthy as any round-headlighted Sneetch.
All that said, I'll be the first person to advise against buying a Jeep Wrangler of any sort for owners who don't plan to use it as its makers intend. There's no good reason to punish yourself with a stiff and springy ride, a loud and somewhat drafty (though generally water-resistant) interior or the poor fuel economy expected of a block-shaped vehicle if you don't enjoy its other, more exciting benefits.
Of course, Jeep has done its darndest over the years to make the Wrangler as civilized as possible while keeping it as capable as federal law will allow. The 2013 Jeep Wrangler Moab edition is one of Jeep's latest attempts to attract attention from the upper reaches of the active lifestyle set, and I spent a week with one to see what makes the Moab special.
