1982 JEEP WAGONEER
ORIGINAL RUST FREE NEW MEXICO CAR

Up for your consideration is a 1982 Jeep Wagoneer. 100% rust free New Mexico car that runs and drives excellent. Original 90k miles. original paint, accident free. I am the third owner. First owner bought it new in OK. The second owner purchased it with 51k miles on it and then I bought it three years ago. In those three years I have driven it very little as it is not my main means of transportation.

I have put lots of time and money into the vehicle to ensure reliability. This past year I have installed a new battery, all new breaded and extended break lines and breaks, carburetor rebuild, electric fuel pump, and a full tune up.

The vehicle runs amazing, tracts down the road perfect with NO pulling to right or left. Power steering work flawlessly, power breaks work perfect and are new. I have never taken it off road but the 4x4 does engage perfect and light on dash lights up when engaged. Blinkers work, horn works Gas gauge and temp gauge do NOT work. Could be a fuse?

Interior is in decent shape. The backs of the all the seats were reupholstered in red and do not match the bottoms, but they look good. (look at pics). Headliner has a couple of tears in it and is dry. Carpet is in very good condition. Dash is cracked. All power windows work other than the riverside rear door where it only goes down about two inches. ONE door pull is broken but all other door panels are in good condition. One door handles is loose. Ashtray pull is cracked, glove box "box" is missing and I do not have the detachable face for radio.

Overview

Paint/body: original paint and color. No accidents "wood" stickers on side are cracking. NO bondo. Small nick and pings here and there.

Glass: All there and in good condition. Front windshield needs replaced.

Drivetrain: 360ci v8 automatic 4x4. 90k miles with no leaks anywhere!

Rust: None, rust free.

Tires: Tires have about 85% tread left but sitting in NM sun so starting to crack a little.

Lights: All lights work as they should besides the reverse lights.

Bad stuff:  I want to point out as many flaws as possible so there are no surprises
"chrome" on front grill is starting to peel off. Ash tray broken, glove box missing, not the door but box itself, door pulls broke (2). gas/temp gauge non operable, driver side rear window does not roll down all the way, reverse light do not work, metal piece above pass taillight for whip antenna (see pic). Dash is cracked.

Overall this is a great vehicle that could use a little work but also can be used as a daily driver as is. If you have any question please feel free to call me at 505-401-5424. I have nothing to hide and I am NOT a dealer. A VERY REASONABLE RESERVE HAS BEEN SET

Jeep 'trailer hitch' recall repair rates lag amidst reports of new death

Sat, Jan 10 2015

The problem with exploding fuel tanks in the 1993-1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee and 2002-2007 Jeep Liberty in some rear collisions continues to be a problem for FCA US, formerly Chrysler. The campaign to fix the utility vehicles was first announced in June 2013 after 51 claimed fatalities, and the fixes reportedly began in January 2014. However, there continue to be new deaths blaming the problem in unrepaired models, according to The Detroit News, citing data from the Center for Auto Safety. The automaker initially refused NHTSA's pressuring to conduct a recall because the models met applicable crash standards when they were manufactured, but eventually, there was a compromise to inspect and fix about 1.56 million Jeeps. With the fuel tank located between the rear axle and bumper, the unusual fix was to install a trailer hitch for extra protection. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration later agreed that the change would provide added safety in lower to medium speed crashes, but not high-speed crashes. The most recent fatality, according to The Detroit News, occurred on a Michigan freeway in November 2014 when a pregnant woman in a 2003 Liberty was rear-ended when traffic slowed. Her Jeep impacted the vehicle in front, rolled over and a fire resulted. The family reportedly plans to file a lawsuit against FCA. At issue has been the rate at which the vehicles are being fixed. In July 2014, the automaker estimated it could have all of the vehicles repaired by March 2015 thanks to additional hitch supplies. But by November, NHTSA claimed that only three percent of the recalled models had been fixed. FCA says it continues to work to notify owners, though. According to Chrysler spokesperson Eric Mayne to Autoblog, "We are processing approximately 1,200 vehicles per day. Every owner who schedules service is receiving service. As of Jan. 8, that total was 193,490." The company has also mailed out over two million notifications to owners, more than the number officially called in. Given the age of these Jeeps, many of them have had multiple owners, and historically, the older a vehicle is, the less likely the recall fixes are to be carried out. FCA is currently creating a video urging people to have the hitch installed to be released soon. Fires, deaths continue after Jeep fuel tank recall

Wed, Feb 11 2015

As Kayla White slowed her SUV behind two other cars to exit a suburban Detroit freeway on Veterans Day, it was rammed from behind by a Cadillac STS. Her red 2003 Jeep Liberty bounced off a Nissan in front of it, rolled onto its side and exploded in flames. Other drivers ran to help but were forced back by the heat. Firefighters arrived in just three minutes but were too late. White, a 23-year-old restaurant hostess who was eight months pregnant, died of burns and smoke inhalation. White is one of more than 70 people killed in fires involving older Jeeps with plastic fuel tanks mounted behind the rear axle. Fiat Chrysler, which makes Jeeps, recalled 1.56 million of them in June 2013 under pressure from US safety regulators. But only 12 percent of the SUVs have been repaired in the 18 months since the recall, a much slower pace than usual. And White's Jeep was not among those fixed. Last week, prosecutors charged the Cadillac driver with committing a moving violation that caused a death. But safety advocates and the lawyer for White's family say the blame belongs as much, if not more, on Chrysler and an auto-industry safety system that moves too slowly to prevent tragedy. The rear-mounted tanks have little structure to protect them if struck from behind, making them susceptible to punctures and fires. Moving the gas tank in front of the axle would be expensive and difficult. So Chrysler's remedy involved installing trailer hitches on the rear of the Jeeps as an extra layer of protection. Government testing showed the hitches protected the tanks in crashes up to 40 mph when stationary Jeeps were hit from behind. But at higher speeds, they wouldn't help. White tried to get the repair done a few weeks before her death but was told by a Jeep dealer that parts weren't available, according to Gerald Thurswell, her family's lawyer. He wouldn't identify the dealership, and his contention could not be independently verified by The Associated Press. Thurswell contends the gas tank ruptured, spilling fuel that touched off the fire. A Chrysler spokesman expressed sympathy to White's family but said the company had no written proof that she asked a dealer about the recall. Two crash reconstruction experts interviewed by the AP say gas wouldn't have spilled from White's Jeep if the tank had been mounted in front of the rear axle. Both say a hitch might have prevented the tank from being damaged, but because both vehicles were in motion, neither expert could say for sure.

Jeep still working to improve Cherokee's 9-speed auto

Tue, Feb 3 2015

Fiat Chrysler is hoping an upcoming software update will stem the tide of consumer complaints surrounding its nine-speed automatic transmission. Owners of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee have reported a number of problems on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's SaferCar.gov website, since the new model and its troubled gearbox arrived way back in October 2013. The software update is "intended to keep the vehicle performing as intended, and to prevent durability issues from occurring in the future," an FCA spokesperson told Automotive News, and will be available to owners of both the 2014 to 2015 Jeep Cherokee and the 2015 Chrysler 200, which also uses the 9AT. While FCA will be notifying consumers of the update, owners can also request the software reflash if they happen into their dealer before then. Despite the widely documented problems with the transmission, the only complaints on NHTSA's website relate to the 2014 Cherokee – neither the 2015 Jeep nor the 200 have received any complaints. That bodes well as FCA prepares to begin deliveries of the 2015 Jeep Renegade and launch the Fiat 500X, both of which pair the 9AT with the 2.4-liter Tigershark four-cylinder. "We have had to do an inordinate amount of intervention on that transmission, surely beyond what any of us had forecast," FCA CEO Sergio Marchionne told Automotive News. "There are things that we have done – that we continue to do. Our proactive customer care intervention has actually increased in intensity on these vehicles in 2014, especially in the second half." What's fascinating about the 9AT's problems are that they haven't been the fault of manufacturer ZF, but have related to software that wasn't "mature" and had "teething problems," Marchionne has said previously, AN reports. With the lack of criticism for the 9AT in 2015 models and this pending software update, though, here's hoping that FCA has finally figured out its fuel-sipping gearbox. Related Video:
