Up for sale is a 1982 jeep CJ5 renegade. This jeep was purchased in 2002 with the majority of the work being redone between 2002 and 2011. It has a fiberglass body, metal fenders and metal hood. The jeep originally came with a 1974 304 V8. The 304 is really peppy and the top end has been redone by a professional mechanic. At the time of purchase, the seller told me the V8 motor had approximately 25, 000 miles. Since that time, I have put on approximately 10,000 highway miles. This jeep has never been off-road in order to save a very impressive paint job, and has been undercoated to protect the underside and frame. The paint is saffhire blue with 3 coats clear. Has headman headers and side exhaust coming out before the rear wheels. All interior gauges work, including the tachometer and clock. Sidelights w/blinkers also work. The gas gauge reads lower than it should, but a new sending unit comes with the jeep if you choose to replace it. The seats are ultra comfortable. No rear seat. The transmission shifts smoothly and the 4 wheel transfer case works great. This jeep comes with a rare T-18 4 speed with the first gear (granny gear) transmission which is super for steep inclines without touching the gas. It just goes and goes at about 2 mph. The jeep comes with practically new 33 x 12.50 x 15 cooper tires with only  3,000 miles. The chrome rims are beginning to see some rust scaling mainly from condensation by sitting in the winter. The vehicle was only driven in the summer and never driven in the snow and never plowed. The top is rated as fair. It does the job but if you want perfection, a new top should be purchased. Jeep also comes with a bikini top which is new. This jeep burns no oil, starts up at the turn of the key, and there are no oil leaks. Brakes are great. The jeep is a real head-turner, with a beautiful paint job, renegade stripes, and deep throat exhaust. Unfortunately, I have no room to store this wonderful jeep, and reluctantly need to sell. This vehicle is also being listed locally, and the auction will be closed if it sells. A deposit of US $1000.00 within 48 hours of auction is required. Shipping is the responsibility of the buyer unless the buyer is close enough to pick the vehicle up. I've owned it for 12 years, and it's time to reluctantly let it go. Thanks for looking at this beautiful jeep.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles recalls nearly 750k vehicles in two campaigns

Thu, 16 Oct 2014

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is recalling a total of 747,817 vehicles in the US in two separate campaigns recently added to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration database.
The first one covers about 434,581 units of the Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger, Challenger, Durango, and Jeep Grand Cherokee from the 2011-2014 model years with electric hydraulic power steering, the 3.6-liter V6 engine and a 160 amp alternator, according to FCA. In the affected vehicles, it's possible for the alternator to fail without warning and possibly cause the car to stall. According to the documentation submitted to NHTSA, the automaker began investigating the problem in August 2014 and has found possible evidence of one crash caused by the failures but no known injuries.
Customers will begin receiving notification about the recall next month, and obviously the repairs will be done at no cost to them.

Chrysler expecting up to 200,000 9-speed transmissions for 3 models this year

Tue, 22 Jan 2013

Striving for improved fuel economy, we already knew that Chrysler will begin using a nine-speed automatic transmission in some of its new products this year, but what we haven't known is that volume at which this gearbox will be used. According to Bloomberg, Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne has been quoted as saying that the automaker expects to sell close to 200,000 units equipped with this new transmission in 2013. Those gear-rich trannies will be spread out across three models, consisting of the redesigned Chrysler 200, the still-unnamed Jeep Liberty replacement and the Dodge Dart.
This transmission should play a pivotal role in making Chrysler vehicles more competitive in their respective segments. Just for comparison, one of the Dart's key competitors, the Toyota Corolla, still uses a four-speed automatic, and a previous report indicates that the next-generation 200 could get up to 38 miles per gallon on the highway, which is better than most non-hybrid midsize sedans on the market. Marchionne says that the new Jeep model is expected during the second quarter of this year, but there is no word as to when the new 200 or nine-speed Dart will debut, but clearly Dodge would like to have the transmission in its compact yesterday. As for that volume figure, it definitely doesn't seem out of reach since the Dart, Liberty and 200 combined for a total of more than 225,000 units in 2012.
How many more gears can we expect in future cars? Probably not many more, since the CEO of transmission-builder ZF, Stefan Sommer, previously stated that nine speeds was the "natural limit" for transmissions.

Why Mopar won't release a factory lift kit for the new Jeep Cherokee

Thu, 24 Apr 2014

The Jeep Cherokee Dakar concept showed off at the 2014 Easter Jeep Safari made a lot of online friends, even the Cherokee naysayers assenting that there's a monster Jeep underneath the Cherokee's skin if you're willing to go in and get it. But after reading Road & Track's write-up of what went into creating the Dakar, particularly its lift, you'll understand why you'll probably never see the components for it in the Jeep Performance Parts catalog.
The concept's press release mentions a "prototype Jeep Performance Parts lift kit, and additional suspension modifications." The short-story explanation is that the front struts on the standard Cherokee weren't engineered to accept any amount of lift, so the long story begins with the phrase, "an entirely new suspension." Head over to RT to read the details, and don't be afraid to ogle the Cherokee Dakar gallery and another awesome Jeep fancy that won't likely crawl over the hurdles imposed by production reality.
