1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo Sport Utility 4-door 4.0l - Needs Repair - Red on 2040-cars
Livonia, Michigan, United States
1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4x4 Red with 153,156 miles This vehicle needs repair before it can be driven. It must be towed from in front of my house.
Please see the picture of the Mechanic’s Invoice. The Idler Pulley came loose, and the bolt for the Idler bent and damaged the Coolant Tube connecting to the Water Pump. The Bracket the bolt attaches to was also damaged, and must be replaced. This is a labor intensive repair, which will require replacement of all of the aforementioned parts, most likely including the Water Pump (The water pump was replaced only 11 months ago (8k miles ago)). No accidents. See AutoCheck Report. Clear Title in hand. Please read below for information on repairs made over the last year, and things on the Jeep that do not work. Repairs made over the last year: Fuel Pump – 4 months ago, 4 thousand miles ago Ignition Coil – 4 months ago, 4 thousand miles ago Crank Sensor – 5 months ago, 4+ thousand miles ago New Radiator – July 2013 (can’t find the receipt with date and mileage) Track Bar & Steering Stabilizer replacement – 11 months ago, 8 thousand miles ago Water pump & thermostat replacement – 11 months ago, 8 thousand miles ago A/C recharge – 11 months ago, 8 thousand miles ago Engine cleaning and power steering fluid change – 11 months ago, 8 thousand miles ago The battery is 16 months old, and it is an 8 year warranty battery (not transferable)
The following things do not work, or are faults with the vehicle: The fuel guage does not work. The electric windows on the passenger side do not work most of the time. There is a bad ABS speed sensor on the left rear wheel (ABS light on). The gauge light and chime come on from time to time, while at the same time the oil pressure gauge drops. It is apparently a gauge or instrument cluster problem (google on this to see it’s a common Jeep issue). The vehicle used to have another common Jeep problem, engine stalling. The problem went away when I removed the PCM cover screws (google Jeep PCM screws). But, I suspect the problem will eventually come back, and more digging on google revealed that the issue is intermittent solder joints inside the PCM cover (so removing screws changed the torque on the cover relieving the issue, for now). The passenger side carpet used to get wet when running the A/C over time on the highway. It was apparently a plugged drain from the condenser (another common Jeep problem you can google about), so it is believe to be solved. It has a fault code for an oxygen sensor. The Airbag light is on sometimes. The radio does not play loud. It will for a minute until it warms up, but it is apparently folding back on the gain due to heat. The aftermarket remote keyless entry operates all locks except the driver door. The driver door has to be opened with the key. (I know, that’s so backwards). The driver door opens and closes OK, but it is rickety. Rust in spots shown in pictures, but not really any to speak of under doors. Tires are all OK on tread, but not matched. Please feel free to ask any questions. $100 deposit through PayPal required upon winning the auction. Cash only accepted when picking up the vehicle. Please pick up promptly, and be prepared to tow. SOLD AS IS. NO WARRANTY. Thank you!

2014 Jeep Cherokee facing production delay
Fri, 17 May 2013Jeep's bold-faced new direction spearheaded by the 2014 Cherokee is facing some teething issues. According to a report by the Detroit Free Press, production start-up of the controversial new utility vehicle at its Toledo North facility is running about a month behind schedule "due to a wide range of issues." That's according to Mark Chernoby, senior vice president of engineering at Chrysler.
Chernoby maintains that the issues being encountered aren't unusual for the launch of a new vehicle - particularly one with a new powertrain - and he downplayed the delay, telling Jeep dealers that they "will have ample inventory of the midsize SUV by fall." Among the kinks being worked out? Calibrating the Cherokee's cutting-edge ZF nine-speed automatic transmission and refining assembly line tasks to make the process more efficient.
Chrysler expects to start building retail-ready versions of the Cherokee around mid-June, with official sales slated to start in September.
Chrysler recalling 644k more Dodge Durango and Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs over brakes
Wed, 02 Apr 2014Early last month, we reported on Chrysler issuing a preemptive, proactive recall for about 25,000 units of the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango. The issue revolved around a brake system that wasn't causing any actual problems, but delivered an unsatisfactory brake feel, so Auburn Hills called in a good 25,000 of SUVs around the world, including 18,700 in the United States.
Now Chrysler, having apparently determined that the brake problem on its sport utes is actually much bigger than it initially realized, has drastically broadened the scope of the recall. As a result, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has issued a recall for precisely 655,354 examples of the Grand Cherokee and Durango, covering the 2011 through 2014 model years. In addition, Chrysler is recalling 42,380 units in Canada, 21,376 in Mexico and 159,685 overseas.
The problem which Chrysler found revolves around the brake booster, whose center shell has been found to be subject to corrosion, allowing water to get into the brake system. That water in turn could freeze, preventing the brakes from working as well as expected.
Jay Leno rides high in Fab Fours Legend
Mon, Mar 23 2015Jeep showcased some pretty awesome concepts at its Easter Safari in Moab a few days ago, but few if any of them were quite as extreme as what's rolled in to Jay Leno's Garage for this latest video installment. It's called the Legend, and it was made by aftermarket bumper manufacturer Fab Fours to demonstrate its capabilities. It's obviously based on the Jeep Wrangler, but it's riding high on 50-inch tires with a jacked-up monster truck suspension, giant fenders, a chopped-down red-tinted greenhouse and something its creators call a "grumper" that integrates the bumper into the grille. Or vice versa. Though most of the oily bits have carried over from the production model, it's hardly what you'd call "practical," but it's sure to turn a lot of heads... even one as massive as Jay's.
