1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited Sport Utility 4-door 4.0l on 2040-cars
Morris Plains, New Jersey, United States
Selling a 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee. This vehicle has the Limited package, with leather seats and all power options. It is an early production model, and is equipped with the 4.0 6-cylinder engine and the Aisin AW4 automatic transmisssion, exactly the same as the regular Cherokee's. It has the full-time NP249 transfer case, full-time all wheel drive with a viscous center differential.
This Jeep runs and drives perfectly. The heat and A/C work beautifully. The only bad things are: radio antenna is broken, there is a tiny (1.5-inch) rip in the driver seat, the driver information display (by the shifter) does not work, and the right rear window switch is broken. There is some rust on the left side rocker panel and fender (see pictures), but that is the only rust there is. There is no frame rust underneath. I have owned this car for a little over a year, and put about 8000 miles on it. I am selling only because I have 3 vehicles right now, and I can't keep them all. I have repaired many, many things on this Jeep, here is a list of new parts that have been installed and work that has been done in the last year (8000 miles or so): All 4 shocks Front control arms All 4 tires Battery Both Fog Lights Front brakes (pads and rotors) water pump thermostat radiator (and hoses) A/C compressor Cooling fan (electric conversion) Spark plugs, wires, cap, rotor Distributor Ignition coil Temperature sensor Coolant level sensor Alternator Accessory Drive Belt Muffler and tailpipe Oxygen Sensor Transfer case fluid Valvecover gasket Oil filter adapter gasket Multimedia head unit installed (AM/FM and USB/AUX/SD, but no CD player) Fancy red speakers in the front doors, fancy black ones in the back doors (don't worry you can't see them, but they sound good) I set a reserve price because of all the work that has gone into this vehicle recently, it runs and drives almost like a new Jeep, with the reliability of the AW4 transmission, which wasn't offered in many ZJ's. |

Airbag fault on 1M recalled Jeeps getting second look from NHTSA [UPDATE]
Mon, 02 Jun 2014UPDATE: Here is the statement we received from Chrysler regarding NHTSA's query: "Chrysler Group LLC advised the National Highway Traffic Administration of the six reports and, in accordance with the Company's long-standing practice, is cooperating fully with the resulting investigation. Customer safety is paramount at Chrysler Group. Customers who are concerned may call 1-800-853-1403."
It appears that Jeep's repairs for nearly one million Grand Cherokees from 2002-2004 and Liberty models from 2002-2003 might not be over yet. The vehicles were first recalled in November 2012 because the front airbags could suddenly deploy without being in an accident. Now, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is opening a recall query into them because of reports of inadvertent activation on some already corrected vehicles.
The original problem affected over 919,000 vehicles worldwide, including 744,822 in the US, and was caused by a degrading circuit in the wires that control the airbags. In some cases the airbag warning light would come on just before the premature activation, but in other cases it would just happen. The automaker installed an "in-line jumper harness with an integrated electrical filter" meant to eliminate the power spikes believed to be the cause.
164K Jeep Cherokees recalled to protect liftgate from moisture
Thu, Jun 25 2015FCA is recalling 164,003 examples of the 2014 and 2015 Jeep Cherokee because moisture can damage the power liftgate controls on models that are equipped with that feature. Regionally, this includes 99,436 of them in the US, 13,195 in Canada, 2,406 in Mexico, and 48,966 outside of NAFTA. The problem came to light after the automaker started investigating a fire in one of the SUVs. There were no injuries, though. According to FCA US' research, the power hatch's control module potentially can be exposed to water. This can cause a short circuit and possibly a fire, as in this case. Until the issue is repaired, the company is advising owners to keep the cargo area dry on Cherokees equipped with this feature. To fix things, dealers will install a shield around the controls to protect them from moisture and will replace any modules showing exposure to water. Statement: Water-Shield Installation June 24, 2015 , Auburn Hills, Mich. - FCA US LLC is voluntarily recalling an estimated 99,436 SUVs in the U.S. to install shields that protect their power liftgate control modules, and related components, from moisture. FCA US LLC began an investigation after learning of a reported vehicle fire. The probe revealed power liftgate control modules in certain SUVs may be inadvertently exposed to water. This may cause a short-circuit, creating a fire hazard. However, the Company is unaware of any related injuries or accidents. The campaign affects model year 2014 and 2015 Jeep Cherokee SUVs, but is limited to vehicles equipped with power liftgates. An estimated 13,195 customers are affected in Canada, along with an estimated 2,406 customers in Mexico and 48,966 outside the NAFTA region. The estimated total recall population is 164,003. All affected customers will be advised when they may schedule service. If the modules show signs of water exposure, they will be replaced. All recall-related work will be performed free of charge. In the interim, the cargo areas of 2014-15 Cherokees equipped with power liftgates should be monitored and kept dry. Customers with questions may call the FCA US Customer Information Center at 1-800-853-1403.
25,000 Jeep Grand Cherokee, Dodge Durango SUVs recalled over brake feel
Mon, 10 Mar 2014Chrysler has announced that it is recalling over 25,000 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango SUVs from several markets over concerns about brake feel under hard braking. The affected models are from the 2012 and 2013 model years, although the actual dates of production aren't available. 18,700 are in the US, while 825 are in Canada, 530 are in Mexico and a further 5,200 outside of North America.
According to a statement, Chrysler was informed of the issue by a component supplier for the Ready Alert Braking system, which primes the brakes in anticipation of an emergency stop. A component in the system was restricting the flow of brake fluid too much.
As Chrysler is quick to point out, the way the brakes functioned was in compliance with regulations and there are no reported cases of drivers losing braking power. Instead, the issue rests with what Chrysler calls a pedal feel that "was not consistent with customer expectations." So it would seem Chrysler is being proactive and fixing a problem not because there's a legal issue at work, but simply because it doesn't feel the way the manufacturer wants it to. Well done.
