Very Nice 74 Jeep Cj5 100% Restored on 2040-cars
Rifle, Colorado, United States
I finished this Jeep 2 years ago and have used it mainly during hunting season since and a few camping trips. Very low miles on restore. I have a lot of time in this Jeep as I started building it at the axles. Everything was new when it was built. Everything is either new or rebuilt to new. I will list what it has starting from the ground up.
-Dana 44 scout II rear axle with Yukon 5.38 ring and pinion, ARB air locker, moser axle shafts and disc brake conversion. (All parts were new) -Dana 44 Chevy front axle narrowed to match scout rear end, parts mike inner knuckles aligned and welded. No sleeves or welded joints in the tube like most people do. Yukon 5.38 ring and pinion, ARB air locker, moser chromoly axle shafts, ford hub assembly for 5 lug with disc brakes, warn premium hubs, hi steer steering arms, cross over steering. (all parts were new) -Rubicon Express spring over springs front and rear custom anti wrap bar on rear axle -Custom shackle reversal on front end -reinforced and boxed frame -drive train industries drive lines -Dana 20 transfer case -T18 4 speed transmission -center force clutch -parts mike hydraulic clutch kit -advanced adapters motor mounts, bell housing, and headers -balanced and blueprinted Buick 225 odd fire V6 bored .030 over, high flow heads with custom ground valve seats and larger valves, comp performance cam, HEI pointless distributor, live wire plug wires, Howell fuel injection kit with a lot of different proms burned -PSC hydraulic assist steering (brand new steering box from PSC not rebuilt or home made) -stock radiator rebuilt and modified but have aluminum radiator for it just never got electric fans so I didn't bother putting it in but aluminum radiator will go with it. -custom made bumpers -bulldog 9000 lb winch up front -poly body mounts and all stainless steel hardware -body is rust free and was a straight body so no bondo. linex bed liner on underside, inside of tub and in engine compartment. Grill, windshield frame, dash is powder coated gloss black, fenders hood and tail gate have a powder coat primer then paint and clear coat. The rest of the body is Pontiac red with a ton of clear coat so one could wet sand and buff it out if needed. -new heater -new heater cables and all ducting -new wiper motor and linkage -interior all restored (very difficult to find original parts but I managed to do it) -Mastercraft seats front and rear -smittybuilt full roll cage -warn fender flares -36x13.5x15 super swamper irok bias ply tires on Mickey Thompson Classic Beadlocks -comes with soft top pictured, bikini top, and half soft doors. will also include what ever misc spare parts I have laying around I am sure I missed some things so feel free to ask questions. Everyone that drives this jeep can't believe how solid it is with no rattles or squeaks. It drives extremely well for what it is. I have drove it on the interstate and it handles great at speed. No death wobble or vibration. Like I said this was not a junk yard build everything was new when built and I have most receipts to back it up. |

Watch this 650-hp Hennessey Jeep Grand Cherokee go from 0-60 in 3.9 seconds
Tue, 14 May 2013Hennessey Performance Engineering has created an HPE650 package for the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT fitted with the 6.4-liter Hemi engine. When it leaves the showroom floor it has 470 horsepower and gets from 0-60 miles per hour in 4.8 seconds. When it leaves Hennessey's garage floor after the upgrade it has 650 horsepower - 530 hp at the wheels, according to Hennessey - and gets to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds on its way to running the quarter-mile in 12.6 seconds.
There's more than just a Roots-type supercharger bolt-on, with ported cylinder heads and high-flow headers among the many changes made to the engine. You can watch this pre-2014 facelift silver model prove its spec sheet on the drag strip in the video below.
Crawling Moab in the 2015 Jeep Renegade Trailhawk [w/video]
Thu, Apr 9 2015The funny thing about the Renegade Trailhawk is that Jeep still feels the need to defend it. For the past 20 years, automakers have sent emissary vehicles outside the citadel walls surrounding their brand niche. In doing so, these companies found buyers eager to join the cult instead of an angry horde. With the kingdom successfully expanded, automakers had to build new walls to contain this broader identity. This is the story of Jeep's modern expansion, growing with new models while the faithful at the brand's center howl at every quest into broader market segments. Thirteen years after it busted out the Liberty and eight years after birthing the Compass and Patriot, you'd think the resistance to new Jeeps would subside. But no. It's 2015, and while nobody makes the slightest tantrum over BMW's new minivan (except for Sniff Petrol), the Renegade still has to fight its way through pitchforks and torches. Which is a long way of saying that this author is guilty of brand prejudice, too. When the company told us that we'd spend the first day of the Easter Jeep Safari driving seven awesome concepts and the second day driving the Renegade Trailhawk on Dome Point Trail, we could only think, "They giveth excitement, and they taketh it away." Our pessimism was later proven to be incorrect. Sharing the sentiment our colleague Brandon Turkus expressed after his Quick Spin, we found the Renegade to be "in a word, impressive." Dome Point will not trouble a kitted-out Wrangler, but in a compact SUV with on-road tires the rocky sections were chunky enough to require close attention to your lines or use a spotter. As instructed, we put the little 4x4 into the Selec-Terrain's Rock mode, and with common sense plus one eye on the man directing us with hand signals the Renegade climbed over everything with some wheelspin but little fuss. At the first rest point, we turned the car off to wait for vehicles behind. Not realizing that this resets the drive mode to Auto, we crawled through the next two rocky jumbles in the default setting. The result was the same: a bit of wheelspin climbing over thick steps, but an altogether drama-free passage. Auto mode can't use the engine throttle maps unique to each Selec-Terrain setting, but it doesn't hamper the Renegade's capability by much. On a steep bit of trail with a crest capped by stacked stone plinths, it took three tries to find the right line, but that's on us – the Renegade did more than expected.
What will Detroit do with the abandoned AMC headquarters?
Mon, Dec 28 2015As with so many other industrial and residential properties in Detroit, the former headquarters for the American Motors Corporation is having a hard time finding a reputable buyer. In October the Wayne County Treasurer held a tax foreclosure auction of 25,000 properties that included the AMC building, the starting bid being $500. Nicholas Casab won the building for $500, but the county voided the sale when Casab didn't pay the $232,000 in back property taxes. Detroit authorities haven't commented on the failed sale, but the city has until January 4 to decide if it wants to keep the building. If it doesn't want to hold onto it, the 1.5-million-square-foot property on 57 acres might be ceded to the Wayne County Land Bank Corporation. No matter who holds the deed come January 5, all anyone really wants is for someone to take possession of the building who will actually turn it into something useful and viable. The property opened in 1927 as a factory for the Kelvinator Corporation. Over the following decades, Kelvinator merged with the Nash Motor Company, and that merged entity merged with Hudson Motor Car Co, becoming American Motors. Chrysler took over the building in 1987 when it bought AMC, then shuttered it in 2009. The complex has produced refrigerators, Sikorsky helicopters, Jeeps, AMCs, and was used as an engineering center for Jeeps and other Chrysler products. Having been through several hands in the past six years, it is cited as part of the cycle of abandonment plaguing Detroit.
