Up for sale is a CJ8 that I purchased in 1999. It came the from the Forestry Service in South Dakota. It started life as Sherwood Green and they shot it with the Forestry green before it went out the door. It had a 4 banger with a 4 speed. If your into CJ's you know that the 4cyl was a GM 151. Which was a piece of crap for a motor. So there was no reason to save it or the transmission which was SR5. Now to what I've done. The motor was replaced with a 350 sbc with TBI. The trans is a TH350 with a 205 transfer case. The axles are stock. I have a set Moser axles for the rear but never changed them because I just used it to run around town. The jeep has bedliner shot in the bed and inside the tub about 6" high. The entire drive train may have a 1000 miles on it. As I said this is a base unit. I have changed the column to a tilt. I have installed the clock, tach, grab bar and chrome grill out of a Laredo. The seats are out of a 4th gen Camaro. I had them recovered in black cloth. Their ten times better than that after market junk. It has power steering and power brakes now which it didn't have when I got it. It also didn't have a padded dash which was a little hard to find. Because the 81 Scrambler was the only year without wing vents so the dash in order to be right has no indentions for the vents. There are no patch panels on this. Did you hear me. There are no patch panels on this jeep. That is one of the first things that caught my eye when I bought it. If you look close at the pictures you can see the spot welds in the body. I did not flares on the back wheel wells because I didn't want to drill new holes in the body. The paint is about 4yrs old. The jeep has never been in the rain and has always been garaged. The tires have about 5/16 tread on them. They were put on to setup the suspension and they work just fine for what I do. Now to the things that don't work. The tach doesn't work because it is an original 6 cyl tach. The clock is also original and they were not that when new. The reason I didn't put after market units in is because the faces are different and the reverse paint is different. I put them in purely for looks. And the doors do not lock. They never have in all the time I've owned it. (1999) I don't think the Forestry worried about. I never worried about it because everybody knew it was mine and left it alone. That's small town Tennessee. Other than those items that's it. The reason for selling this is because I also have a cj6. It was going to go to Colorado. But I changed my mind and it's staying here. The Scrambler lost the coin toss. Plus I can beat the snot out of the cj6 and not worry about getting a scratch on it. Like I do the Scrambler. If there is anything I have forgotten, I'll try to add it later. Or feel free to ask questions. I built this from pretty much nothing, so there's nothing I don't know about it. As far as your wife driving it or your daughter fine. But if they are like my wife, who perks up at the slightest noise. No. Buy them a Honda. Think about it, if it wasn't for electric starters half the people on Harleys wouldn't be on them. This is a damn nice Jeep. Could other things be done to it? Sure. I never saw a jeep I COULDN'T DO SOMETHING TO But if your looking for a nice mall crawler. This is a great ride.....Thanks for your time. The last picture is of the cj6 I'm keeping. Baby Jeep to join Renegade in FCA's plan for new Italian-built models

FCA is boosting its European production, introducing new models that will be built in currently under-utilized manufacturing facilities. Among the new models is a new small Jeep, smaller than the current Renegade, as Automotive News reports. FCA's Mike Manley mentioned the entry-level Jeep model earlier this year, also saying that the vehicle is targeted to European and possibly Latin American customers; in the summer, Autocar placed the launch date in 2022. The new "baby" Jeep would be made in the same factory in Pomigliano, Italy, as the small Fiat Panda, which is a top seller in Italy. The current generation Panda was introduced in 2011; if it gets a replacement in 2022, it could possibly share a platform with the Jeep model — or, the Jeep could be an eventual outright replacement for the Panda. One of Fiat's earlier core products, the Punto hatchback, was canned in August, and that production capacity will be used to make the Jeep Compass instead, at the Renegade-producing Melfi factory in southern Italy. The Compass has not previously been built in Europe. The Fiat model portfolio would be shrunk to just the 500 model family and the Panda — the 500 would also be FCA's key electric vehicle offered in Europe. It is not yet clear whether the electric 500 would be made in Turin, Italy, or in Poland; Turin might also get a Giardiniera-badged wagon version of the refreshed 500. As for the Alfa Romeo brand, it is set to gain an even bigger SUV model than the Stelvio, based on the Maserati Levante's platform. The Levante's sales have suffered recently in China, but Maserati does have light in the horizon: The Alfieri 2+2 grand tourer is still in the cards, with a launch expected for 2020 and both a convertible and an electrified version planned to follow. The Alfieri would be made in Modena, Italy, according to Automotive News' sources. None of these plans namedrop the storied Lancia brand, which has been shrunk to just the Ypsilon hatchback, based on the same platform as the current 500 and Panda. Despite that, the Ypsilon was again the second-bestselling car in Italy after the Panda in October. It is unlikely that FCA will be able to ignore this, but it is just as unlikely that any development money will be afforded to come up with a replacement for the Ypsilon, which is as similarly old as the Panda. Perhaps official announcements expected on Thursday will also clarify what will happen to Lancia.

Chrysler recalls 468,700 Jeep Grand Cherokees, Commanders over rollaway risk

Chrysler has issued a recall covering a combined 469,000 units of the 2005-2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee and the 2006-2010 Jeep Commander (inset). Of that number, 295,000 are in the US, roughly 33,000 in Canada and Mexico and the remainder in other markets. It seems an electrical fault in the transfer case can allow the affected SUVs to shift into neutral on their own, while an Associated Press report says that Chrysler had "found cracks in a circuit board that turns the four-wheel-drive system on and off." The issue was discovered when an owner started his car remotely and it rolled away.
Chrysler is expected to begin notifying owners in June 2013, who can then take their cars to dealers. The dealer will reflash the final drive controller free of charge. There's a bulletin from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration below with more information.

Stellantis mega-merger gets approval from FCA, PSA shareholders

MILAN — Shareholders of Fiat Chrysler and PSA Peugeot decisively voted Monday to merge the U.S.-Italian and French carmakers to create worldÂ’s 4th-largest auto company. Addressing separate meetings, both PSA Peugeot CEO Carlos Tavares and Fiat Chrysler Chairman John Elkann spoke of the “historic” importance of the vote, which combines legacy car companies that helped write the industrial histories of the United States, France and Italy. Before the merger is finalized, shares in the new company, to be called Stellantis, must the launched. It will be traded in Milan, New York and Paris. The marriage of PSA Peugeot and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is built on the promise of cost-savings in the capital-hungry industry, but what remains to be seen is if it will be able to preserve jobs and heritage brands in a global market still suffering from the pandemic. The deal will create the worldÂ’s fourth-largest carmaker, with the capacity to produce 8.7 million cars a year, behind Volkswagen, Toyota and Renault-Nissan, and create 5 billion euros in annual synergies.  “We are fully aware of the fact that together we will be stronger than individually,'' PSA CEO Carlos Tavares told a virtual gathering of eligible shareholders. “The two companies are in good health. These two companies have strong positions in their markets.” The new company will put together under one roof French mass-market carmakers Peugeot and Citroen, top-selling Jeep and Italian luxury and sports brands Maserati and Alfa Romeo - pooling companies that have helped define the industry in the United States, France and Italy. While the tie-up is billed as a merger of equals, the power advantage goes to PSA, with Tavares running Stellantis and holding the tie-breaking vote on the 11-seat board. Tavares is set to take full control of the company early this year, possibly by the end of January. Fiat Chrysler chairman John Elkann, heir to the Fiat-founding Agnelli family and Fiat ChryslerÂ’s biggest shareholder, will be the Stellantis chairman. Fiat Chrysler CEO Mike Manley will head North American operations, which is key to Tavares' long-time goal of getting a U.S. foothold for the French carmaker he has run since 2014, and the clear money-maker for Fiat Chrysler. Such a deal was long wanted by Fiat ChryslerÂ’s long-time CEO Sergio Marchionne, who had predicted the necessity of consolidation in the industry. He was unable to find a deal before his sudden death in July 2018.
