This 1986 AMC Jeep CJ7 was a project car that I purchased back in 2005. A year later my third child was born and since a family of 5 does not fit well in a CJ7 my usage of this classic CJ has continually declined to the point that I have not licensed it in the last two years and only driven it around the neighborhood to keep the battery charged. Now it is time to let someone else continue her restoration.
- 4.2L (258 c.i.) inline six-cylinder with a Howell Throttle Body Injection instead of the notorious Carter BBD carburetor. The Howell TBI gives slightly improved performance, easier starting, and easily passes Colorado emissions tests.
- Dana 300 transfer case and a Torque-Flight TF999 automatic transmission.
- Almost new 33x12.5x15 BF Goodrich All-Terrain T/A KO tires
- Rubicon Express 2.5" suspension lift kit.
- Hard top and hard doors plus a Bestop Soft Top and 2 piece soft doors
- Warn "shorty" front bumper
- Oversized rear bumper with spare tire carrier and 2" receiver
- 20 gallon gas tank
- Differential gliders front and rear
- Tub is very solid
- The paint is a 6 out of ten. It looks good in most places but is bubbling, chipping, or has surface rust just ahead of the doors and on the hard doors at the hinges and on the rear window post
- Water stain on top of the soft top that is not visible from the ground unless you are 7 feet tall
- Soft top is missing a zipper on the left rear window insert
- Even though this has a 20 gallon tank the previous owner left the standard 15 gallon fuel pickup in the tank so the last 4+ gallons is unusable
- The spare tire is on a black rim instead of matching chrome rim
- The seat covers are waterproof but have some sun discoloration and small rips and tears

Chrysler adding 200 jobs at Ohio Jeep Wrangler plant
Fri, 15 Mar 2013Chrysler is betting that the Jeep Wrangler will continue its strong sales surge as it continues to push the legendary brand out across the globe. The Auburn Hills automaker is reportedly adding 200 workers at the Toledo, Ohio plant that builds the Wrangler. What's more, those new hires will be at their posts quickly - they'll be on the job by April 1. Of those 200 workers, 130 employees will be there to relieve those who need breaks.
Why do they need so many relief workers? The Toledo Jeep Complex is currently working at a torrid pace with two ten-hour shifts. A third shift has been ruled out for the moment because of a production botttleneck - the plant's paint shop is already maxed out. According to Reuters, Wrangler production in 2012 cleared 200,000 units, and US sales were up by 16 percent.
Another part of the Toledo plant is presently down as Chrysler retools the line to build Jeep's divisively styled Liberty replacement, the Cherokee (seen in our gallery below). Production for the new model is scheduled to begin toward the end of May.
Six 'shut up and take my money' cars
Tue, 11 Nov 2014Any time you see this iconic moment in pop culture - Shut up and take my money! - posted in response to a new car reveal, rumor for an upcoming model or even lip-service to a vehicle that should exist, you can bet there's some intrinsic good in the idea. Though depending on the person offering up the cash, that good could take the form of extraordinary form, functionality, weight savings, power, handling, etc. You get the idea.
In fact, when I first proposed this list, I reached out to the Autoblog staff to help me brainstorm. Here are some of the ideas they offered up that I ultimately didn't use: Jaguar XE Coupe, Pagani Huayra Roadster, Mercedes-Benz S-Class "parade car" (cabriolet), Morgan 3-Wheeler with Ducati V-twin, Ford Transit Connectamino (pickup), Mercedes CLA63 AMG, Ford Fusion 5.0, BMW i8 Spyder, Lexus RC-F Shooting Brake, Volvo XC90 Polestar. Oh, and things we collectively wanted to stick Dodge's Hellcat in were almost as numerous as models that Fiat Chrysler Automotive currently makes (though none quite so compelling as the Grand Cherokee you see above.)
Ultimately though, while I used a couple of ideas from my colleagues, the list of cars I'd shell out for unquestionably is very personal. Though it isn't complete, what follows is a selection of cars whose very existence would prompt me - or the trust-fund-baby versions of me - to utter without hesitation: "Shut up and take my money."
Jeep Cherokee sales rival Wrangler after two months
Sun, 29 Dec 2013In our First Drive article on the 2014 Jeep Cherokee we said, "our informal and thoroughly unscientific opinion is they're going to sell tons of them. Why? Because it is very good." So far, it appears the public concurs. Of course, it's very early - the new compact utility has logged just one month of confirmed sales, but Larry Vellequette at Automotive News says dealers have told him that the second month of sales will be even better, a message that mirrors what we've heard from company execs.
In its first, severely truncated month on sale, the Cherokee sold 579 units. With all of November to play with, though, dealers moved 10,169 of them - compared to 11,753 Wranglers and 14,798 Grand Cherokees. That helped propel Jeep to a 30-percent year-on-year improvement for the month, Chrysler Group to a 16-percent improvement and the group's 44th consecutive month of sales growth, exceeding analyst expectations in posting its best November numbers since 2007.
If it can just keep replicating the its first month of sales, the finalist in North American Truck of the Year voting will smoke the trade done by the outgoing Liberty, which didn't break 7,900 units in a month in the last four years of its life (and normally didn't get close to even that). In March this year, Chrysler said it wants to build 250,000 Cherokees in its Toledo assembly plant for global sales. It's early yet, but with second-month sales quoted as being as "strong as death," the bookies might be resetting the odds.
