I'm selling my 85 JEEP CJ7. It's a 95% rust free and very straight vehicle.  I purchased it from Collins Brothers Jeep of Austin Texas in 1999. Since purchasing it, I've done a number of upgrades. The original 4.2L 112HP engine was replaced with a 1996 4.0L 190HP Jeep engine. It has the electronic multi-port fuel injection, Hesco throttle body spacer, K&N air intake and Borla header. A Centerforce clutch mates to a T176 4-speed standard transmission. The AMC20 rear end has a Moser 1-piece axle kit. The tires are Pro Comp 31X10.5X15 mounted on American Eagle aluminum wheels. The suspension is a Skyjacker Softride 2.5" lift. The tub floor is coated with a roll in bed liner with a new carpet. The center console was replaced along with an Alpine CDA-9883 receiver with CD player and iPod control, new front speakers and Thor Soundwedge rear speakers. It has a Best Top Super Top with two piece doors and a bikini top, fog and running lamps and a bike carrier. The seats are in excellent condition with no tears.

This is a 1985 vehicle and is described as I see it. The frame has no cracks or any other damage I am aware of. The body is original except for the windshield frame I replaced.  The paint is good with the exception of some chips and a small spot below the left front marker lamp that has peeled. In the 14 years i've had this jeep I've put less than 32,000 miles on it. I've never used this Jeep for off road, it's been my summer street cruiser.

Chrysler reports $166M net income for Q1, down $307M vs. 2012

Mon, 29 Apr 2013

Preliminary first-quarter results from 2013 have been announced by Chrysler, and the company is reporting a net income of $166 million on revenue of $15.4 billion. Compared to this period last year, net income is down $307 million and revenue has dropped $1 billion.
Chrysler says that its quarter was negatively affected by the costs associated with launching its 2013 Ram Heavy Duty, 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee and preparation for the return of the all-new 2014 Jeep Cherokee pictured above. The launches should provide a strong second half of 2013, says the automaker. "We remain on track to achieve our business targets, even as the first-quarter results were affected by an aggressive product launch schedule," said Chrysler Group LLC Chairman and CEO Sergio Marchionne.
On a positive note, the automaker says worldwide vehicle sales are up 8 percent from one year ago, a number pushed by a 12 percent bump in U.S. retail sales. In addition, domestic market share has risen slightly, up to 11.4 percent from 11.2 percent last year. Read more in the official statement below.

Maserati Levante crossover not Jeep based after all?

Thu, 20 Feb 2014

Maserati has been teasing its crossover project since 2011, which is when it first showed off the Kubang concept (pictured above). Still, the production version, rumored to be called the Levante, remains a complete mystery. The CUV was first rumored to borrow the platform from the Jeep Grand Cherokee, but new rumors indicate that the Italian, luxury crossover might actually take the underpinnings from the Quattroporte and Ghibli.
In a brief interview, Maserati CEO Harald Wester told CNN Money that the Levante wouldn't use Jeep's platform. Motor Trend spoke with an unnamed Maserati engineer who confirmed the rumor. Officially, the company says that no decision has been made.
We can add this to another long list of rumors about the Italian CUV. It was originally supposed to be built at Chrysler's Jefferson North assembly plant in Detroit. Then, plans were changed to build it in Italy.

Marchionne uses racial epithet to describe what must power future Alfa Romeo models

Wed, 16 Jan 2013

Sergio Marchionne and his Fiat empire have a lot riding on the US return of the Alfa Romeo brand. The endeavor has been in progress for what feels like a lifetime - certainly for as long as Fiat has had the Chrysler brand under its Italian wing.
It's not surprising that Fiat CEO Marchionne needs a perfect first Alfa to mark a return to America. And here's where things get dicey. Nobody would argue with Marchionne's insistence that Alfa Romeo's be powered by Italian engines - as Marchionne himself is quoted to have said at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show, "There are some things that are well done in Italy."
If not what he said, then, it's how he said it that has eyebrows raised. "I cannot come up with a schlock product, I just won't. I won't put an American engine into that car. With all due respect to my American friends, it needs to be a wop engine." Wait, what's that?
