Up for auction is a 1985 Jeep CJ7 Hard Top 6 cylinder 4 speed manual. Unmolested. This is a frame on restoration. The majority of the vehicle is factory original with the exception of the paint, seats, shocks, and carpet.
The Good -
  • Mechanically sound and everything mechanical operates as it should. All gauges, bulbs, and switches work. Starts right up, goes down the road straight, and stops on a dime.
  • The seats are all brand new BestTop vinyl and the carpet is also brand new (ACC DuPont cut pile in black)
  • Only 77,500 original miles
  • 1985 Sanyo high power cassette deck (refurbished) and 6x9 speakers in Sound Wedge boxes. Original paper behind speaker openings in the dash.
  • Perfect windshield. Perfect original dash pad.
  • New Duralast battery.
  • Many new lines, hoses, bulbs, and belts. All fresh fluids.

Things to know -

  • A very tiny drip at the rear main seal. Maybe a drip a day.
  • All 5 tires have less than 500 miles on them, but they do not all match. The spare tire may very well be the original spare, a standard Goodyear Wrangler. Three of the tires on the ground are Goodyear Wrangler APT. The fourth tire on the ground is a Goodyear Wrangler SRA. I have not changed them because the new owner may have their own preference in tires and tire size. All are original size 235 75r15.
  • Just a little bit of surface rust barely showing on the front fenders behind the tires (typical spot). It's not getting any worse is isn't very noticeable. Any other rust appears to have been removed or repaired. There is a new floor on the drivers side. I have another brand new one piece replacement but it isn't really needed at this time.
  • The paint is not original. It shines up very well with very few scratches, but there are a couple of little paint runs on those front fenders. The hard top has been painted black with texture. There is a spot on the very top where that paint peeled and was touched up. There is some over-spray from the new paint on the rear bumper that could probably be buffed off or have the bumper repainted, and a little bit on the edges of the dash.. I have new "Jeep" front fender stickers to go with it (paid $50) in case the new owner wants to clean up those fenders. I don't think that is worth doing yet.
  • I have all 5 chrome wheels, 4 are on the ground. The current spare wheel is a white factory wheel with a BestTop tire cover over it. The fifth chrome wheel would need to be polished and then mounted, but does come with this.
  • Needs rear seat belts.

This is a frame on restoration. It's not perfect but it needs very little and is suitable to be a daily driver. The paint job isn't perfect, but it's not too bad either. The frame is super solid without any rust at all. The underside has been painted and lightly undercoated. This Jeep went from Florida, to Kansas City, to Eastern Nebraska just a year or two ago which is why there is only very minor surface rust.

Please ask questions or come and see it. Message me and we can talk on the phone if you like. You need to ask questions! More pictures are available.

I will not deliver, but I will do my part on this end to help load or make it available for transport. For near locals, I may be able to meet you part way.

Only bid if you are serious and have the money to buy it.

A $1000 non-refundable deposit is due within 24 hours of end of auction. The remainder of the balance due must be paid within 7 days.

I do not need any help selling this vehicle and this is not a must sell situation.

Jeep is for sale locally so it could be removed at any time before reserve is met. Reserve is set for what I have in it.

No warranty of any kind. As is.

Jeep driver nearly gets washed away by fast moving river

Wed, May 11 2016

Just because you can do something doesn't mean that you should. For example, you should never attempt to cross a fast-moving river in a bone stock Grand Cherokee no matter how shallow the river looks. Especially if you don't know what you're doing. A video posted recently to the Facebook group Jeep EXPERIENCE, shows an inexperienced jeep driver learning that lesson the hard way. This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Manage Settings. The video starts innocently enough, with a group of off-roaders watching one of their friends attempt to ford a shallow looking river. Things quickly go sideways however, when the driver of the silver Grand Cherokee just plunges right in and quickly gets in over his head. The river is moving faster than the driver thinks it is, the driver panics, makes some bad decisions, then the jeep is turned over and swept downstream. Eventually, the jeep is hauled out by a Land Rover after a long comedy of errors that involves one guy losing his trousers to the current and the Cherokee ingesting untold gallons of water. What went wrong here? Well, It's pretty obvious from the video that the Cherokee driver didn't have a clear idea of where he was going or about the condition of the riverbed. He chickened out halfway across the river, and in what appears to be a misguided attempt at turning back, he reverses, digs himself deeper in the riverbed, then turned broadside on into the current. When he changes his mind again and decides to just gun it for the opposite shore, he drives directly into a deep water hazard that would have been obvious to an experienced off-roader. At that point the jeep and the driver were doomed. Hopefully the driver learned a lesson here, and hopefully he didn't pollute that river too much with the jeep's fluids. This SEMA special drag race is absurdly awesome

Fri, Dec 5 2014

The SEMA Show came and went last month, and it showed us a ton of heavily modded goodies to dream about during the long, cold winter. The Motor Trend Channel on YouTube is keeping the party rolling a little longer, though, with a drag race inspired by the aftermarket event. All of the hosts were supposed to borrow a vehicle from the show for the big race, but only two of them actually cajoled companies into lending their wares. Still, the result includes four very cool and extremely different examples of the breadth of the automotive hobby. First up, there's a 1955 Chevrolet with a 535-cubic-inch (8.8-liter) Hemi V8 stuffed under the hood. Appropriately, it's dubbed the Blasphemi, and with skinny tires up front, fat rubber in the rear and a stripped interior, this this is made to go very fast in a straight line. Next, there's a stock Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat boasting 707 horsepower. Plus, host Jessi Lang has her dog riding shotgun for the race. A Chevy Sonic RS with some body mods, downpipe and intake is also competing. Finally, the most bizarre of the quartet is a custom 1958 Jeep Forward Control with a 5.7-liter Hemi V8 and treads to replace the wheels. Obviously, the Blasphemi and Hellcat are the only two that really have a chance of winning, but check out the video to see which one crosses the finish line first. NHTSA, IIHS, and 20 automakers to make auto braking standard by 2022

Thu, Mar 17 2016

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and virtually every automaker in the US domestic market have announced a pact to make automatic emergency braking standard by 2022. Here's the full rundown of companies involved: BMW, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Jaguar Land Rover, Kia, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Subaru, Tesla, Toyota, Volkswagen, and Volvo (not to mention the brands that fall under each automaker's respective umbrella). Like we reported yesterday, AEB will be as ubiquitous in the future as traction and stability control are today. But the thing to note here is that this is not a governmental mandate. It's truly an agreement between automakers and the government, a fact that NHTSA claims will lead to widespread adoption three years sooner than a formal rule. That fact in itself should prevent up to 28,000 crashes and 12,000 injuries. The agreement will come into effect in two waves. For the majority of vehicles on the road – those with gross vehicle weights below 8,500 pounds – AEB will need to be standard equipment by September 1, 2022. Vehicles between 8,501 and 10,000 pounds will have an extra three years to offer AEB. "It's an exciting time for vehicle safety. By proactively making emergency braking systems standard equipment on their vehicles, these 20 automakers will help prevent thousands of crashes and save lives," said Secretary of Transportation Anthony Foxx said in an official statement. "It's a win for safety and a win for consumers." Read on for the official press release from NHTSA. Automakers making the commitment are Audi, BMW, FCA US LLC, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Jaguar Land Rover, Kia, Maserati, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, Mitsubishi Motors, Nissan, Porsche, Subaru, Tesla Motors Inc., Toyota, Volkswagen and Volvo Car USA.
