1984 Jeep Cj7 Restored, Original, No Rust, Laredo on 2040-cars
Gig Harbor, Washington, United States
Very original 1984 Night Blue JEEP CJ7 Laredo 104,600 miles Original, VERY SOLID, 4.2 liter/258 c.i. straight 6. Uses no oil between changes, does not smoke or leak. Original Jeep 4-speed transmission. I believe this Jeep is as it came from the factory, except for the 4" lift, larger tires, and minor improvements made during the cosmetic restoration (ss hardware, improved heater blower motor, weber, bumper, lift, etc) All changes can easily be reversed to factory stock condition. -Stripped all paint down to bare steel. I found some bondo on the left front fender from a previous poor repair, also found some rust in the lower corners of the windshield frame. I replaced these two parts with NEW STEEL PARTS, as well as the tailgate that had been dented, which I replaced with a NEW STEEL TAILGATE. -Body was disassembled. All dings and dents were repaired. All parts were epoxy primered and resprayed in the original factory Night Blue color, then reassembled. -Bestop soft top,
full soft doors (zip out windows), half doors, bikini top, all in EXCELLENT
condition. NO HARD TOP or HARD DOORS. -All ORIGINAL factory
Jeep CJ7 full carpeting, plus additional new floormats. -LAREDO edition,
which includes Laredo chrome front grill, ORIGINAL Laredo seats, original
Laredo rear bench, original factory console with cup holders, original factory storage locker (fits behind the rear seat), and all original roll bar covers, all in superb condition. The Jeep DOES NOT have the "LAREDO" decal on the hood. -NO Radio, though wiring is in place. -JEEP rear speakers. Small front dash speakers were removed. -STAINLESS STEEL HARDWARE on the body. -Entire tub is Rhino-lined -NEW GM heater blower
motor, NEW heater core, NEW radiator, NEW water pump, and NEW thermostat. -NEW WEBER 32/36
progressive carbureter -NEW windshield and NEW windshield seal -NEW windshield-to-cowl seal -NEW speedometer RATIO
ADAPTER is installed to correct for the larger tires. Speedo and odometer are
now accurate, verified by GPS. -PRO-COMP front
bumper, and a CUSTOM-MADE REAR RACK, that fits on the custom-made rear tire
carrier. -NEW FUEL SENDING
UNIT and NEW FUEL GAUGE. -NEW BF Goodrich 33x12.50 All Terrain T/A's -4" shackle/suspension lift -Front locking hubs (I believe are original) -Extended links for the front anti-sway bars, making it very solid on the highway at higher speeds. ***In addition, I have the original chrome Laredo front bumper, and the original carb and air cleaner assembly, and all the original smog equipment, though I can't confirm that every piece of smog gear is accounted for. ***NOTE...this IS NOT a SHOW VEHICLE. It is a driver, and hence may have small imperfections. However, it is a rust-free, mostly original 1984 CJ7, completely dependable, and everything on the Jeep works as it should. I restored this JEEP myself, so I can answer most all questions pertaining to the CJ since I have owned it. It was purchased for a vacation home, but the home was sold so now the JEEP needs a new home. It is not driven too much and I need the space. I have more photos or if you would like to see something specific, I can shoot additional photos and send them out. Thanks... |

First Jeepster prototype spotted with final, boxy form
Thu, 23 Jan 2014The long-awaited baby Jeep is getting closer to production, as evidenced by these spy photos. Previously, the only images of the so-called Jeepster saw it wearing a Fiat 500L body (see below), while this new batch of photos show hefty amounts of camouflage. How is that better? Well, it's very likely there's a production body hiding under all that cladding.
While picking out styling details is virtually impossible thanks to all the camo, as our spies point out, this gives us a very sound idea of the Jeepster's final size. It's small, although we'd argue that it's only slightly smaller than the current Jeep Patriot, based on the images of the newest Jeep sitting in front of an Alfa Romeo Giulietta.
As we reported previously, this little bambino will be built on a Fiat platform, but the styling should be uniquely Jeep - likely to include a somewhat vertical seven-slat grille and round headlights. We can expect to see a production Jeepster, if that ends up being the actual name (Latitude has been rumored, although as that's traditionally a trim level, we imagine there'd be some confusion), when it debuts at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show.
FCA recalling 400k Jeep Wranglers, 40k Fiat 500s
Thu, May 19 2016The Basics: Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has issued two recall. The first is for 392,464 Jeep Wranglers in the US from the 2007-2010 model years for the steering wheel airbags. The second covers 39,217 examples of the naturally aspirated 2012-2016 Fiat 500 in connection with the clutch release mechanism. The Problem: In the Wranglers' steering wheel, excessive accumulation of dust and dirt from open-air driving off-road could compromise the clockspring in the steering-wheel assembly and prevent the airbag from deploying in the event of a crash. In the case of the Fiats, the clutch travel in a small percentage of vehicles equipped with manual transmissions "may exceed design parameters" and eventually damage components. Injuries/Deaths: No injuries or accidents been reported to result from either issue. The fix: Dealers will install new back covers and column shrouds in the Jeeps and upgrade the clutch release systems in the 500s. If you own one: Expect to hear from the manufacturer to arrange service. In the case of the Fiat recall particularly, FCA "urges customers to heed the instructions on their recall notices." Related Video: Statement: Clockspring May 18, 2016 , Auburn Hills, Mich. - FCA US LLC is voluntarily recalling an estimated 392,464 older-model SUVs in the U.S. to replace their clockspring assemblies and related components. Located in a vehicle's steering wheel, a clockspring forms part of the circuit that helps control airbag function. An investigation by FCA US determined excessive exposure to dust and dirt – consistent with extensive off-road driving or driving with a vehicle's top and/or doors removed – may compromise the clockspring and eventually prevent driver-side airbag deployment in a crash. If this condition is present, the airbag warning-lamp will be illuminated. If such an event occurs, customers are advised to contact their dealers. The Company is unaware any potentially related injuries or accidents. Affected by this campaign are model-year 2007-2010 Jeep Wrangler SUVs. An additional 7,435 model-year 2011-2016 vehicles equipped with right-hand drive for special duty also are affected in the U.S. Vehicles affected outside the U.S. comprise an estimated 35,412 in Canada; 8,529 in Mexico and 62,580 outside the NAFTA region. Customers will be advised when they may schedule service, which includes installation of a new steering-wheel back cover and a steering-column shroud.
NHTSA still mulling crash tests for recalled Jeeps
Thu, 15 Aug 2013Well, no one should ever accuse the government of not giving things plenty of thought. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is still debating whether it will retest any of the 1.56 million 1992 to 1998 Grand Cherokees and 2002 to 2007 Libertys that were part of a recall regarding fires after rear-end collisions. And yes, this debate has been going on for over a month. In other news...
The recall dustup started in early June, when Chrysler took the unusual position of refusing a recall request from NHTSA regarding placement of the fuel tank on the effected vehicles. NHTSA said a collision could cause a fire, a position Chrysler took issue with. Extensive negotiations ensued, with Chrysler agreeing to fit certain Jeeps with trailer hitches, which it said would provide some protection to fuel tanks mounted behind the rear axle in the event of a collision.
Part of the issue rests with the amount of data that needs to be processed, according to The Detroit News. NHTSA administrator David Strickland said during a Washington Auto Press Association meeting, "There's a lot of data and Chrysler is being very cooperative in giving us more data." Until that information has been sorted, it looks like re-testing will still be up for debate.
