1979 Jeep CJ5 with clear title.  Jeep is mostly in pieces and is not complete.  You are bidding on axles, frame, full steel  body, roll cage, seats and brackets, transmission and transfer case in need of rebuild, wiring harness for the tub, speedometer, wheels and lots of small parts.  NO ENGINE.  I do not see the vin tag on the body but may be covered by the undercoating.  May not be there.  There is a vin number on the dash panel.  The dash panel has been cut and bent through this tag, making it hard to see.  There is no way to know the true mileage but ebay made me enter a number so I used 300,000.  Title is marked unknown mileage.

I bought this jeep with another and put one together and this is what is left over.  It will need a LOT of work to get on the road.

The axles are amc 20 rear and dana front and appear to be in very good shape but I have never used them. I do not know the gear ratio but the axles were a set.  No brake drums on the rear. No brake lines. Spring perches are mounted on top of axles for lift.  The frame is very solid but has been covered in heavy diamond plate steel from just in front of the rear forward spring mounts back (about half the frame) and has been painted. I assume the frame was rusted in the back but I did not do the repair so I do not know for sure.  Springs in good shape but needs bushings as there is one missing.  The tub appears to be from an older jeep as it has the tool box under the passenger seat. (might explain the absence of the vin tag).  There is surface rust on the tub but it is not rotted out.  Even the tool box floor is there, although it has a crack that will need welded.  I do not know if there has been previous work done on the body. You will need to do some body work to be nice but this is a good body to work with.  There has been some modifying on the tub to alter the front body mounts but does not alter structure that I can tell (see pictures).  No tailgate and the fuel tank is in the back.  You will need a body mount kit.  Fenders are nice and grill is fair and not rusted out.  Windshield frames (2) are rusted through but could be patched and used.  No glass.  Roll bar is straight and not rusted.  There is a steering column but is missing parts.  Uses a GM column.  Foot pedals are there but no e-brake.  Front seats are 2 brand new corbeau 5 point harness but have a couple minor tears from being moved around (see pics).  Also a nice aftermarket fold and tumble rear with no brackets (or you could have my black and white Laredo rear seat from my driver and I'll keep the fold and tumble, you choose).  Also a set of cheap plastic racing seats in good shape included for a total of 5 seats.  Transmission is a T-150 and needs rebuilt.  The transfer case is a dana 20 and might be ok but will need checked out.  Please assume the transfer case is no good and will need rebuilt.  No top at all.  No radiator.  No drive shafts.  No steering box or shaft.  31 x 10.50 tires are not road worthy but do hold air.  Wheels are nice but need painted and are wider than stock so you could probably mount 12.50's on them but I don't know for sure.

You will need a trailer or flat bed truck to take this home.  I will not ship it.  Please ask any questions and I will try to answer as best I can.  If you need more pictures let me know.  Thanks for looking!

Jeep Cherokee faces on-sale delay

Sat, 23 Mar 2013

A report in The Wall Street Journal looks at some of the obstacles to the 2014 Jeep Cherokee that go beyond its mootable yet "very contemporary" looks, almost all of them based on Fiat's financial position. Starting with that sheetmetal, in defense of it SRT president Ralph Gilles and Jeep design head Mark Allen said they wanted to "make sure the design still looks modern five years from now."
The WSJ piece doesn't cite longevity as a factor, instead saying that its features originated in a design for an Alfa Romeo, the transformation into a Jeep design meant allowing Chrysler get it to market more quickly and save "hundreds of millions of dollars" in engineering.
The need for Fiat to save money while it weathers the European situation has cut budgets for development, engineering and the pace of retooling the Toledo, Ohio plant to build the Cherokee. In a familiar case of snowballing at work, among the effects will be pushing back the Cherokee's volume sales date and delaying updates to some of Chrysler's other products.

Jeep idles second shift it hired a month ago for 2014 Cherokee

Tue, 24 Sep 2013

In an unusual move, Chrysler is idling its recently hired second shift of 2014 Jeep Cherokee builders because, Chrysler spokeswoman Jodi Tinson said in a statement, it already has built the "critical number of vehicles we need to stock dealerships once containment is released," Automotive News reports.
After the "critical" 9,430 Cherokees were built, the layoff was enacted so as not to strain the automaker's logistics partners before the Cherokee is actually released. Chrysler says the temporary layoff will last about two weeks, with 500 workers out of work and another 600 reassigned at the Toledo Assembly Complex where the sports utility vehicle was being built. The second-shift workers were hired on August 19.
Chrysler previously insisted that it would release the Cherokee to dealerships by the end of the third quarter, and it initially planned to start selling the SUVs in mid-August. Apparently the Cherokee needed a software fix before hitting showrooms, which is how Chrysler explains why the release schedule is out of whack. We're thinking that this software fix addresses the "powertrain calibration" issue that delayed the first media test drives of the model. According to the Toledo Blade, Chrysler has admitted it is doing "extended quality validation testing" but refused to provide more information.

Chrysler says its 8-speed transmissions will save 700 million gallons

Thu, Jun 19 2014

Chrysler Group's TorqueFlite eight-speed transmission could be earning some serious green bragging rights if the company's projections are correct. The recently widely proliferated automatic gearbox, which is now in more than a million vehicles around the world, is poised to save drivers an estimated 700+ million gallons of fuel over the vehicles' lifetimes (an expected cost savings of $2.5 billion). In addition, Chrysler expects a reduction in CO2 emissions by more than six million metric tons. According to Chrysler, and depending on the vehicle, the TorqueFlite can improve fuel economy. The TorqueFlite autobox features particularly close ratios from fifth to eighth gear (see the press release below for the specific numbers), and uses low-viscosity fluid that doesn't need to be replaced. Transmission software adapts to the driving situation to optimize efficiency based on driver behavior, temperature, grade, stability control, and longitudinal and lateral acceleration. The TorqueFlite is capable of handling a variety of duties. As evidenced by the wide range of vehicles Chrysler Group has seen fit to equip with the eight-speed transmission, the TorqueFlite is capable of handling a variety of duties. Since its 2012 introduction, the TorqueFlite has gone from performing cog-swapping duties in Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300 models equipped with the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 to changing gears in vehicles such as the Pentastar- and Hemi-powered Dodge Durango, Jeep Grand Cherokee and even the Ram 1500 EcoDiesel. For the 2015 model year, the eight-speed is finding its way into even more vehicles with the addition of a third version. In addition to the American-made TorqueFlite 845RE and 8HP70, the new 8HP90 will be manufactured in Saarbrucken, Germany. The 8HP90 is designed for higher torque loads, making it ideal for high-performance vehicles like the 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat. The already-in-use 8HP70 will expand its duties to be used in 2015 Hemi models such as the Dodge Charger, Challenger, and Challenger SRT8. You can see the list of those benchmarks in Chrysler's press release below.
