This was my fathers jeep. He bought it from a hunting buddy in 1980 and had it until his death in 2012. The car lived in Northern California until September 2013 and never saw rain. He would take it out of the garage for hunting season, tow it to his campsite, and tow it back to his garage when hunting season was over. Of the 42K miles, I would estimate that 1/3 to 1/2 of those miles were put on the jeep with the engine off being towed behind his truck.

The jeep has been outfitted for hunting. There is a rifle rack between the driver and passenger side. Fog lights were added. A Warn Winch ($1000?) was installed sometime in the last 5 years or so.

The soft top is in mint condition as are the doors. I think the only time they were ever used was to ship the Jeep from Northern California to South Carolina. The back seat has never been used. The glove compartment was removed to install the rifle rack and is in perfect condition.

I had a new battery put in during a full service in September 2013. Also had a new ignition switch put in.

There is also a tow hitch-bar that can be used to tow the jeep behind your truck or RV.

Everything works with the exception of the gas gauge. I do not know what is wrong with it. The rear view mirror is missing. My father may have removed it for better visibility while hunting.

The tires have great tread on them, more than 60%, and appear to be fine, however, they have been on the jeep as long as I can remember (25+ years) and the new owner may want to change them out.

My father was meticulous and the Jeep has been well cared for. I've put about 100 miles on it since September, and it runs great, very responsive.

Since my fathers death, I've learned many things about him that are extremely unpleasant and I can't look at this jeep without those reminders, so I am selling it.It is very fun to drive.  If you are looking for a well built AMC jeep with low miles that has been well cared for, please feel free to email me with any questions. Please request additional pictures and I will take an upload.

Shipping is buyers responsibility however I will assist with shipping if needed.

NHTSA closes book on Jeep 'trailer hitch' recall after all

Mon, 20 Jan 2014

After much debating and hand-wringing, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration now says it has "no reservations" with Chrysler's plan to recall certain Jeep Liberty and Grand Cherokee models over concerns that their fuel tanks, which are located behind the rear axle, could rupture or leak in the event of a rear impact. The longstanding argument between the two entities saw Chrysler openly defy the Feds after a request to recall 2.7 million units back in June.
Chrysler's "voluntary campaign" will instead see it recall 1.56-million 1993-2004 model year Grand Cherokee SUVs, along with 2002-2007 Liberty models. Affected vehicles will get a trailer hitch installed free of charge, which Chrysler says will provide an additional degree of protection for the fuel tanks in the event of a crash. Jeeps with Mopar-branded hitches or hitches that were installed at the factory aren't affected by this recall.
Chrysler's argument throughout this battle has been that the Jeeps in question are no more susceptible to fires than comparable vehicles from the same time period, a position that NHTSA has seemingly arrived at as well. "Those vehicles performed at a rate similar to their peers. That is the keystone analysis as to whether something poses an unreasonable risk to safety," said outgoing NHTSA boss David Strickland during an interview with the The Associated Press.

Jeep Liberty replacement takes shape

Wed, 16 Jan 2013

Now that the Liberty has left us for greener pastures, it's time to start looking into the future of the midsize Jeep model. The next all-new vehicle for the off-road brand will be the SUV you see here, effectively replacing the Liberty, and not necessarily carrying on with that name.
From the sides, the prototype you see here sort of looks like a miniature version of the handsome Grand Cherokee, albeit with a bit more in the way of body sculpting. Up front, the seven-slat grille will be front and center, with completely revised headlamp designs that are reportedly angular and sweep well into the front fenders (you can sort of see what we're talking about in the side profile). That doesn't sound very Jeep-like, but we'll reserve judgment until we, you know, see the thing.
The bigger question with the Liberty replacement will be whether or not its off-road chops will be up to snuff. After all, the two previous generations of Liberty models were body-on-frame traditional SUVs, whereas this new Jeep rides on a larger version of the Dodge Dart platform.

Jurassic Park made a big impact on these Jeep drivers

Thu, 12 Jun 2014

For a certain cohort of young folks, Jurassic Park is a touchstone film from their childhood. Not only did it play into practically every little boy's love of dinosaurs, the movie included some great action scenes and special effects that still hold up today. In its latest video, The Aficionauto takes a look the Jurassic Park Motor Pool, a California car club with over 40 fans who created replica vehicles from the iconic film.
The club is made up of an interesting cross-section of people. Many of them were Jeep Wrangler fans that already loved off-roading and Jurassic Park, and liked the idea of bringing them together. Like any close-knit club, it ends up being about community and people coming together to share their interests. It's quite a heartwarming video. Also, be sure to stay until the end because The Aficionauto teases a future Jurassic Park-themed vehicle. Scroll down to check out the motor pool.
