1976 Jeep CJ5 79,xxx miles on odometer

Jeep was bought as a project/toy. I have upgraded/fixed most all problems to make this a capable daily driving CJ5. There are still a few things that could still use attention, but overall the jeep can be driven daily. I drive it 20 miles a day on nice days to work and back.
Tires are 31" Swamper TSL's (2 have 50% tread, 2 have 25%).

Drivetrain
AMC 304: Does not use/leak oil, great oil pressure. Radiator flushed, never gets above 200 even when idling on hot days in traffic.
New stuff: aluminum header gaskets and cleaned up headers, good valve cover gaskets, rebuilt MC2100, manual choke, motorcraft distributor, MSD 6AL ignition box, cap, and E-coil, plugs & wires, Delco SI alternator, belts/hoses/fuel lines, fuel pump.

T-150 3speed trans: very drivable and shifts decent. May need a clutch in a few years, has some trouble holding to shift into 3rd gear. No leaks and recent fluid change.

Dana 20 T-case: shifts great. No leaks and recent fluid change.

Dana 30 front: New axle joints, tie rod ends, passenger side spindle, both spindle bearings/seals, wheel bearings/seals, Warn premium locking hubs, brake rotors, pads, calipers, steering gear box and new suspension u-bolts. Very slight leak from diff cover and just had fluid changed. Stock gearing, not sure of exact gear.

Model 20 rear: New wheel cylinders, steel brake line, vent line, drum hardware, inner axle seals and shoes. Drums are in decent shape. Very slight leak from diff cover and just had fluid changed. Stock gearing, not sure of exact gear.

Body
Mostly stock with minimal rust. Driver fender is the worst (see picture). Tube fenders would be a great fix for the front fenders! It looks like the PO had removed most rust but there are signs of bondo in some areas that do not show rust. Most of the paint will shine up pretty well.
Most body mounts are ok, 2 could use some attention at some point. Roll cage has front hoop by the dash. Gas tank is custom made, roughly 26 gallons, and has working gas gauge on dash.

The entire jeep has been rewired with a Jegs 12 circuit harness. All connections made with weatherproof connectors and all lights and signals work. The horn is the only thing nonfunctional and is due the steering wheel switch not being connected.
I have an older spice soft top to match the doors but the rear window zipper is torn and it is not in the best shape. I have a brand new bikini top and a cab cover that I keep on it most of the time. The jeep has been stored out of the weather for the past 2 years and has been taken really good care of.

Extra Parts
Original Motorcraft alternator, prestolite distributor, and what is left of the factory wiring harness
Half of a 5 gallon bucket of gear oil can go with it (diffs, trans, and t-case fluid)
Factory 304 Exhaust Manifolds (getting hard to come by) and a new hi-lift jack can be thrown in too for the right price.

I encourage buyers to come look at this Jeep and drive it prior to bidding. It is an older vehicle and has more character than a new car or jeep would have, but is still very reliable for a weekend warrior, project vehicle or great for a toy/farm truck.

Will not ship. Must pick up in person.

The jeep is in Louisville, KY 40242 and can be seen by appointment

Win a car while supporting a charity this holiday season

Thu, Dec 9 2021

Autoblog may receive a share from purchases made via links on this page. Pricing and availability are subject to change. No donation or payment necessary to enter or win this sweepstakes. See official rules on Omaze.  The leaves have fallen, there is a crispness to the air and there have already been multiple forecasts of snow, which can only mean one thing: We're coming up on Christmas. While you've been busy thinking about what kind of gifts you're going to give your loved ones, we here at Autoblog have been deciding which dream car we'd like to see in our driveway on Christmas morning. A car for Christmas does seem a bit extreme and expensive, but thanks to these Omaze sweepstakes, it doesn't have to break the bank. Here are the current sweepstakes we'd like to win this holiday season. Win a DeLorean DMC-12 - Enter at Omaze James Riswick, West Coast Editor: Let me be clear, the DeLorean is a pretty terrible car. Its speedometer doesn't even go up to the fabled 88 mph. Seriously, look at the pictures: tops out at 85. Also, who services a DeLorean? And how much would it cost to maintain one? $AlloftheMoney or just $MostoftheMoney? So owning it could be a total headache, but at least by winning one through Omaze, you'd be relieved of the financial burden of buying one in the first place. You'd also get the chance to own one of the most iconic cars of all time, one that transcends car enthusiasm and is instantly recognizable by everyone as the "Back to the Future" car. Plus, "everyone" doesn't know that the DeLorean was actually a pretty terrible car. So, I already own James Bond's car from 1995, why not Doc Brown's from 1985? Win a 2021 Bentley Bentayga V8 - Enter at Omaze Eddie Sabatini, Production Manager: Why am I choosing a +$200K Bentley SUV? Because even if I could afford one I'd never be able to wrap my head around spending money on one. So why not try to win one by donating what I can afford to a good cause? I first saw the Bentley Bentayga up close and personal at the Frankfurt Motor Show (I forget which year but I'll never forget this SUV). And although it looks like the Bentayga Omaze is offering up doesn't have the opulent tailgate setup I fell in love with when I saw it in Frankfurt, I'd still enter to win. Win a 1968 Mercedes-Benz 280SL Pagoda - Enter at Omaze Byron Hurd, Editor: Few automotive marketing efforts stick out in my head more than the Mercedes-Benz holiday spots and magazine placements.

164K Jeep Cherokees recalled to protect liftgate from moisture

Thu, Jun 25 2015

FCA is recalling 164,003 examples of the 2014 and 2015 Jeep Cherokee because moisture can damage the power liftgate controls on models that are equipped with that feature. Regionally, this includes 99,436 of them in the US, 13,195 in Canada, 2,406 in Mexico, and 48,966 outside of NAFTA. The problem came to light after the automaker started investigating a fire in one of the SUVs. There were no injuries, though. According to FCA US' research, the power hatch's control module potentially can be exposed to water. This can cause a short circuit and possibly a fire, as in this case. Until the issue is repaired, the company is advising owners to keep the cargo area dry on Cherokees equipped with this feature. To fix things, dealers will install a shield around the controls to protect them from moisture and will replace any modules showing exposure to water. Statement: Water-Shield Installation June 24, 2015 , Auburn Hills, Mich. - FCA US LLC is voluntarily recalling an estimated 99,436 SUVs in the U.S. to install shields that protect their power liftgate control modules, and related components, from moisture. FCA US LLC began an investigation after learning of a reported vehicle fire. The probe revealed power liftgate control modules in certain SUVs may be inadvertently exposed to water. This may cause a short-circuit, creating a fire hazard. However, the Company is unaware of any related injuries or accidents. The campaign affects model year 2014 and 2015 Jeep Cherokee SUVs, but is limited to vehicles equipped with power liftgates. An estimated 13,195 customers are affected in Canada, along with an estimated 2,406 customers in Mexico and 48,966 outside the NAFTA region. The estimated total recall population is 164,003. All affected customers will be advised when they may schedule service. If the modules show signs of water exposure, they will be replaced. All recall-related work will be performed free of charge. In the interim, the cargo areas of 2014-15 Cherokees equipped with power liftgates should be monitored and kept dry. Customers with questions may call the FCA US Customer Information Center at 1-800-853-1403.

2014 Jeep Cherokee: Introduction

Tue, 27 May 2014

When we look back at some of the more shocking product launches of recent yeras, the Jeep Cherokee is certainly high up on the list. And we aren't just talking about its off-the-wall, polarizing design.
For starters, it brought back the iconic Cherokee nameplate - something Jeep enthusiasts have coveted for ages. But beyond that, it brought a new evolution for the Jeep brand. After all, the Cherokee is car-based - using the same compact platform that underpins the Dodge Dart and Chrysler 200. It has a greater focus on technology and refinement than ever before, in an effort to appeal to a new crop of Jeep customers. And powering it all is a new (optional) V6 engine paired with an equally new nine-speed automatic transmission.
Can the Cherokee's car-based roots still allow for a vehicle that's superb when the going gets tough? Will its design still be a love/hate affair in one year's time, or will it start to blend in? Is the powertrain strong enough to not only support the needs of daily driving and road trips, but blaze a few trails as well? We're aiming to answer all these questions, and more, over the next 12 months. Welcome to the Autoblog long-term garage, Cherokee.
