Up for auction is this 3 speed 1975 CJ5 Jeep I purchased in Washington, OR in 2005, and drove it 1,600 miles back to Iowa with no problems!

It has the stock 258 6 cylinder engine (not the 232) and had 69,000 miles on it.  I am the 4th owner. It was originally passed down from Grandfather to Grandson in 1991 with 23,000 miles, and sold to the gentleman I bought it from with 47,000 miles.

It had been repainted from the original white to dark metallic blue. Custom features include stainless bumpers, bumper guards, body hardware and interior grab bar.  It has a black powder coated Swing Away Spare Tire Carrier (paint is peeling off); a big option at that time, an entire black Rhino lined interior pan and wheel wells.  Wheel Rims are 15x8 5/5-1/2 (#164 Ultra) polished aluminum with s/s center caps.

Included are the Original Window Sticker, 1975 Owner’s Manual, Warranty Pamphlets, original Repair Receipts, and Ads used to sell this jeep.  Also included are Moses Ludel’s Jeep CJ Rebuilder’s Manual 1972-1986, Chilton’s Repair & Tune Up Guide 1947-1987.

This jeep is in good mechanical condition and has a plenty of pep.  I would not hesitate to drive it back to Oregon.  It does burn a little oil and I suspect that someday it will need the rings replaced.  The biggest problem is that it has sat outside, so developed the inevitable rust holes in the quarters.  The left upper plastic door window has a foot long tear, otherwise, the Bestop soft top is in pretty good condition.  The front seats had tears in them when I bought this jeep.  I see one can now buy the 1975 original appearing seats, which were unavailable for a long time.

I installed a new HEI distributor a couple of years ago, and recently installed a new valve cover gasket and had the carburetor overhauled, as it was hard to start if it sat for more than one week.  Now it starts fine.  The throw out bearing complains occasionally in really cold weather.

Currently, it has 76,333 miles, so I have driven it about 7,000 miles during the past eight years.  It is a great winter vehicle, which is what I mainly used it for, and of course fun to drive in the summer with the doors off.

I am selling this jeep now as I’m in my 60’s and it is becoming increasingly uncomfortable for me to get in and out of it, especially with the door height and it’s short wheelbase ride.

This would be a nice jeep the way it is now or as a project to restore or customize.

Originally I paid $7500 for it, but am starting the bidding at $5,000 due to the needed rust repairs.

Am selling ‘AS IS’ with no refunds or returns!

Buyer must pick up Jeep and I must be paid via Bank Cashier’s Check or in cash, before I sign the Title and the Jeep leaves my house.

Good luck bidding!

Daily Driver: Long-Term 2014 Jeep Cherokee

Tue, Mar 10 2015

As a fan of the boxy Jeep styling of old, I was disappointed when photos first leaked of Jeep's revived Cherokee in early 2013. Then the midsize crossover arrived in Autoblog's longterm garage in May of 2014 and my opinion did a 180. I was prompted to rethink the exterior design of the vehicle after reading our reviewer's interview with head Jeep designer Mark Allen. "The previous, blocky Cherokee was so aerodynamically inefficient, it would be wrong to do it," Allen told Autoblog's Jonathon Ramsey. That made sense. After all, Jeep is a brand associated with the outdoors, so its only natural that they seek to produce efficient, yet capable vehicles. It was then I began reconsidering the sleek lines of the new Cherokee. What once seemed bland and rounded now appeared streamlined and purpose-built. I also give Jeep credit for the slim headlamp silhouette, which look like no other SUV on the market – a far cry from the distinct circular lamps on Wranglers or squared headlights of past XJs. As I drove our long-term Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk on a few road trips, my affinity for the vehicle's comfortable interior grew as well. The seats held up to a nine-hour trek to Montreal, and the Chrysler Uconnect system made navigating the roads and the radio a breeze. Above you'll hear my early impressions of the Cherokee, and below you'll find a previous long-term update featuring Autoblog's Steven Ewing and Chris McGraw. UPDATE: The video mistakingly indicates that the Jeep Cherokee features LED headlights. The Jeep Cherokee, in fact, has daytime running lamps with LED accent lighting. Related Video:

Fiat Chrysler CEO says final merger talks with Peugeot going well

Thu, Jan 23 2020

BRUSSELS — Fiat Chrysler's chief executive Michael Manley said on Wednesday that merger talks with Peugeot owner PSA  to create the world's No. 4 carmaker are progressing well and he hopes to have a deal within 12-14 months. Speaking to Reuters on the sidelines of an industry meeting, he said he doesn't expect any major obstacles that could delay a final agreement. "Talks are progressing really well," Manley said about negotiations with the French carmaker ahead of a briefing by the European automotive association (ACEA), of which he is president. His comments come a month after the two carmakers agreed to a binding deal worth about $50 billion to combine forces in response to a slowdown in global demand and mounting costs of making cleaner vehicles amid tighter emissions regulations. Manley's timeline for completing the deal by early 2021 is in line with a forecast made by the companies in December. Fiat and Peugeot are now getting into the details of how the merger will work, including choosing which vehicle platforms — the technological underpinnings of a vehicle — will fit which products in a combined company. Because customers in different locations still prefer vastly different cars, there is room for multiple platforms in a combined group, Manley said. "That global platform is an elusive beast," he added. "This concept of a massive global platform in my mind is almost a myth, but that doesnÂ’t mean to say weÂ’re not going to recruit significant volume." Related Video:

How to update and secure a vulnerable Chrysler Uconnect system

Sat, Jul 25 2015

If you own one of the 1.4 million vehicles affected by the recent Chrysler software recall, you may want to watch this video. In it, we explain how to get the latest infotainment software loaded onto the 8.4-inch Uconnect system. The recall was a response to the findings of researchers who were able to hack into and remotely control a 2014 Jeep Cherokee through its cellular connection. Although Fiat Chrysler has worked with Sprint to plug most of the holes on the carrier side, there are still some vulnerabilities that only this latest software version can patch. Owners have three options to get the update: download it now, wait for a USB stick in the mail, or take the vehicle to an FCA dealer. Chrysler will be sending USB sticks loaded with the software update to customers. Anyone with an internet connection and a USB stick of their own with at least 4 GB capacity can speed things up by downloading the patch from the Uconnect website. We cover that process from start to finish in the video, with the final portion still applicable to those using the FCA-supplied USB stick. If after watching this you still don't want to tackle the patch yourself, you can take your vehicle to the dealer to have it done. Also note that this process is the same for all Uconnect updates, not just the one patching the exploits. Our demonstrator vehicle is a 2015 Ram 1500 pickup. The procedure should be very similar on other products with the 8.4-inch Uconnect system, with only the location of the USB port varying. Once you have the USB stick with the software on it – either after having downloaded it yourself or receiving it in the mail from Chrysler – the installation process is relatively simple. It takes about 15 minutes to perform the update; we edited out the wait in the video. To check whether or not your car's 8.4-inch Uconnect system is running the latest software, go to System Information on the touch screen's Settings page and look at Software Version. The update related to the recall is version 15.17.5. Related Video: Recalls Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM Safety Technology Infotainment Videos Original Video hacking
