1974 Jeep Cj5 Cj-5 I6 Straight Six Manual Trans Lifted Boxed Frame No Reserve! on 2040-cars
Elkhorn, Wisconsin, United States
1974 JEEP CJ5 4WD MANUAL TRANS As pictured, 1974 JEEP CJ5. Prior owner worked on this quite a while before throwing in the towel. In my opinion, the hard work's been done. Frame has been boxed. Jeep has been lifted. New gas tank. New shocks. New brakes. Diamond plate. Some new wiring. It's got the in-line 6 (232 or 258) with a tree speed transmission. The drivetrain appears to be stock. The engine runs good and the jeep does run, drive and stop. However, it needs some finishing to be road ready. Since the jeep needs some work. I am going to sell this as a project vehicle. Furthermore the jeep has been off the road for over 10 years being restored. I have only driven the jeep very short distances. The jeep needs an alternator (frozen) and belt installed before it can be driven any distance. Some of the lights work some don't. The steering column has play in it. The brakes are newer but I don't think the previous owner bled them correctly, they need to be pumped to build pressure. No leaks noted. Gas tank needs overflow tubes. Needs wiper work. The chassis work looks real good. The previous owner riveted the diamond plate to the body. He stated it was rusted, but had some body work that was less than professional. True mileage unknown, cars over 10 years old are exempt from mileage disclosure in Wisconsin. Don't miss your chance to get this jeep project that is nearly done! Please note, paypal deposit payment is due 24 hours after auction end and read the terms before bidding. Thanks! Petrolicious profiles an heirloom Willys Jeep CJ-3B
Tue, Mar 8 2016Things tend to move pretty quickly in the automotive industry, but some icons that endure. Most of them are off-roaders – the Land Rover Defender, Mercedes G-Wagen, and of course the Jeep Wrangler. The latter traces its roots, of course, to the CJ-model Willys Jeep, built for civilian use in the wake of World War Two where it cut its teeth on the shores of Normandy and kicking off a legend that still endures over half a century later. For its latest video, Petrolicious profiles one such off-roader, and the man who owns it. That man is Larry Shank from California, and his ride is a 1953 Willys Jeep CJ-3B hooked up to a 1947 Ken-Skill Kustom Kamper Model 10. Both belonged to his father before him, and they would take family vacations in the wheeled pair from when he was young. His dad taught him to drive and maintain it, and they bonded over the shared experience. Shank still enjoys driving down the dirt roads and off the beaten paths of the American Southwest, and to hear him speak of it, he wouldn't trade in his Jeep for anything in the world. Watch his story unfold in the eight-minute video clip above to see what an enduring icon looks like. FCA goes all-in on Jeep and Ram brands on cheap gas bet
Wed, Jan 27 2016It's no surprise that as SUV and truck sales remain strong in the wake of unusually cheap gas, Jeep and Ram sales are taking off. What is a surprise is that FCA CEO Sergio Marchionne thinks that cheap gas will be a "permanent condition," and feels strongly enough about it to change up North American manufacturing plans. Jeep appears to be the biggest beneficiary of the product realignment. In addition to increasing the sales estimates for the brand worldwide upwards to 2 million units a year by 2018, the brand will get a flood of investment for new product and powertrains. Consider the Wrangler Pickup to be part of the salvo, as well as the Grand Wagoneer three-row announced in 2014 as part of the original five-year plan. The Wrangler four-door will get at least two new powertrains, a diesel and mild hybrid version, in its next generation. That mild hybrid powertrain may utilize a 48-volt electrical system like the one that's being developed by Delphi and Bosch – which the suppliers think will be worth a 10 to 15 percent fuel economy gain at a minimum. Down the road, in the 2020s, the Wrangler could adopt a full hybrid system. The diesel powertrain is planned for 2019 or 2020. The Ram 1500 is also pegged to receive a mild hybrid system, again potentially based on 48-volt architecture, sometime after 2020. Lastly, Jeep and Ram will take over some of the production capacity of existing plants. The Sterling Heights, MI, plant that builds the Chrysler 200 will now build the Ram 1500; the Belvidere, IL, facility that produces the Dodge Dart will take over Cherokee output; the big Jeep facility in Toledo, OH, will be used for increased Wrangler demand. In 2015, according to FCA's numbers, car and van demand went down by 10 percent, but SUV demand went up 8 percent and truck demand 2 percent. Considering that these are high-margin vehicles, FCA can't ignore the math. FCA also won't build any new factories to supplement production to meet demand, but instead are reshuffling production priorities. Think of it this way: FCA is gambling on cheap gas being a permanent part of our lives, at least into the 2020s. By doubling down on SUVs and trucks, the company stands to win big, unless a spike in gas prices changes the landscape. FCA isn't talking about a Plan B, so they're all in. It'll be interesting to see how this plays out.
