1972 Jeep CJ5, unrestored mostly original Jeep from the Arizona desert. It has spent it's entire life in the dry desert climate around Phoenix metro area. Appears to have all original paint except left front fender which has been replaced and painted to match the original orange color. Seats and seat belts appear to be original equipment, but I am not an expert on early Jeeps. Starts and runs perfect, upgraded with Weber 2 bbl. carb kit (original 1 bbl. carb included in box), and tubular headers and Magnaflow muffler. Gauges work properly, wipers, turn signals all work, speedometer is erratic when cold. Front side marker light do not work.
232 CID straight 6 engine with great torque feeds a 3-speed standard transmission. Transfer case has 2 High, 4 High, 4 Low selection, front hubs have lock outs. Transfer case shifts fine into all selections, 4 wheel drive works fine. Has a very nice black full Besttop convertible top with full doors or half doors by removing top half. Rear window plastic is clear but has some cracks. Also comes with bikini top in nice shape. Standard roll bar bolted in the rear. This is a rare find, these early CJ5's are tough to find that aren't a pile of rust. This Jeep has a number of holes that have been drilled in it over the years for various accessories such as rear tire carrier, radio antenna, etc. 15 X 8 steel wagon wheels painted black including a 5th matching wheel for a spare. It needs a new set of tires, the tires on it are mismatched with decent tread, but are more than 10 years old and need to be replaced for SAFETY!!
Look at all of the pictures I have posted, I have tried to depict the overall condition of this nice Jeep. However, the pictures don't show various bumps and bruises, scratches, and extra holes that have been sustained over the last 40 years. This Jeep is very solid, easy restoration, or drive it like it is. It is 40 years old and drives like a 40 year old Jeep, so don't expect a new Jeep with all of the creature comforts, these are primitive and basic, no frills, easy to work on. Ask questions, I am not an expert on these old Jeeps. Selling with no reserve!! It is located in Scottsdale Arizona.

NHTSA, IIHS, and 20 automakers to make auto braking standard by 2022
Thu, Mar 17 2016The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and virtually every automaker in the US domestic market have announced a pact to make automatic emergency braking standard by 2022. Here's the full rundown of companies involved: BMW, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Jaguar Land Rover, Kia, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Subaru, Tesla, Toyota, Volkswagen, and Volvo (not to mention the brands that fall under each automaker's respective umbrella). Like we reported yesterday, AEB will be as ubiquitous in the future as traction and stability control are today. But the thing to note here is that this is not a governmental mandate. It's truly an agreement between automakers and the government, a fact that NHTSA claims will lead to widespread adoption three years sooner than a formal rule. That fact in itself should prevent up to 28,000 crashes and 12,000 injuries. The agreement will come into effect in two waves. For the majority of vehicles on the road – those with gross vehicle weights below 8,500 pounds – AEB will need to be standard equipment by September 1, 2022. Vehicles between 8,501 and 10,000 pounds will have an extra three years to offer AEB. "It's an exciting time for vehicle safety. By proactively making emergency braking systems standard equipment on their vehicles, these 20 automakers will help prevent thousands of crashes and save lives," said Secretary of Transportation Anthony Foxx said in an official statement. "It's a win for safety and a win for consumers." Read on for the official press release from NHTSA. Automakers making the commitment are Audi, BMW, FCA US LLC, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Jaguar Land Rover, Kia, Maserati, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, Mitsubishi Motors, Nissan, Porsche, Subaru, Tesla Motors Inc., Toyota, Volkswagen and Volvo Car USA.
Marchionne may stay with FCA until 2020
Mon, Aug 31 2015We might get to see Sergio Marchionne and his vast array of sweaters in the auto industry for even longer than expected. The FCA CEO suggested last year that he would retire from the automaker when its current five-year plan was complete in 2018. Now, he has tentatively extended that point out to at least 2020. "I can do this for another five years if you push me, right? Beyond that, I ain't gonna do it, and I don't want to," he said to Automotive News. That would give Marchionne a 16-year career at the top from joining Fiat in 2004 to possibly leaving FCA in 2020. Although, take the CEO's statement with a grain of salt because he has made multiple statements about the timing for his retirement. In 2012, Marchionne said he would only remain in charge until 2015, which is, well, now. Those five years might also go quite quickly because Marchionne is a busy guy with the Ferrari IPO, the attempted merger with General Motors, implementing FCA's five-year plan, and many other projects. He's already considering the next CEO, though. "My purpose in life is to find the Kuniskises of the world, the Manleys, the Biglands, the Palmers," Marchionne said to Automotive News, referencing the heads at Dodge, Jeep, FCA North America, and the company's chief financial officer, respectively. "I told them, 'One of you is going to do what I do one day. I don't know who that is, but one of you is going to do it.'" Consumer Reports digs Mazda3, disses Jeep Cherokee
Tue, 11 Feb 2014Consumer Reports has just rendered its verdict on two of the more important cars to launch this year - the Mazda3 and the Jeep Cherokee. Considering the value a "Recommended" rating carries with the public and the viciously competitive markets these two cars compete in, Consumer Reports' view could have some impact on their initial success.
For Mazda, that's a good thing. CR spoke quite highly of the Zoom-Zoom brand's compact sedan and hatch, testing both models, and citing the excellent fuel economy and snickety-snack manual shifter as high points. Downsides to the 3 included a ride that is agile but "nervous," a bit too much noise and a cramped back seat. Still, the 3 was good enough to earn its place in the ranks of the "Recommended."
The Jeep didn't fare quite so well, with CR calling the polarizing CUV "half-baked." Although both engines were tested, the magazine called the 2.4-liter four-pot underpowered and its nine-speed automatic unrefined and unresponsive. That's particularly damning, considering the 9AT's role in future Chrysler products, including the extremely important 200. Overall, the Cherokee missed out on the coveted "Recommended" rating.
